Abstract
AbstractThis article reports on a new appliance which was developed by the author to aid in the treatment of anterior displaced discs. This Bella Via Repositioner I (patent pending) and its uses are described in detail. The author first surveys dental literature describing various appliances designed to move the mandible forward, and he examines the strengths and weaknesses of each type. He then discusses various approaches and difficulties in treating displaced discs and reviews the procedures involved in the use of the Repositioner I. The Bella Via Repositioners II, III, and IV (patent pending), which were developed as a result of experience with the original appliance, are described, and their various uses are discussed. These devices have sagittal abilities and are able to reposition the mandible anteriorly or posteriorly. The repositioners may prove helpful in various areas of functional jaw orthopedic treatment.
