Histological study in rats].","authors":"E M de Abreu","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>The author studied histologically, the healing process after dental extraction in rats which sockets were filled with fragments of microcrystalline collagen. Thirty six rats (Rattus Novergicus, albinus, Wistar), young, male, weighting from 90 to 110 g and separated into two groups, control and experimental, of eighteen animal each. All animals were anaesthetized with 10% cloral hidrate, 3 ml/Kg body weight and the right maxillary incisors were extracted. In control animal the sockets were sutured after clot filling, and the experimental sockets were sutured after filling with microcrystalline collagen. Three animals of each group were killed after periods of 1, 3, 6, 14, 21 and 24 days after surgery. The following conclusions were drawn: 1. Microcrystalline collagen caused an evident inflammatory reaction in the inicial phases of the healing process of the sockets. 2. Microcrystalline collagen was biodegraded 6 to 14 days after surgery. 3. {"title":"[Fissure sealants--5 years of use].","authors":"A M Azul","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>This study assesses the caries prevalence, retention and cost-effectiveness of a pit and fissure sealant in a children population with 622 cases, 5 years after a single application of an auto-polymerized sealant to permanent molars. The status of the sealant and the presence of caries or restaurations on the sealed teeth was assessed. In a self-controlled group of children, the prevalence of disease (caries and restaurations) was also assessed in non-sealed teeth, for comparison. We shall be looking at its clinical, cytological and immunological aspects. Pemphigus Vulgaris is a rare disease that has, nevertheless, a very common oral expression (90-100% cases). Glial fibrillary acidic protein is one of the five types of intermediate filaments described to date.
