Six male subjects performed elbow flexion of 13-15%MVC. Contractions were repeated 5 times (C1, C2, C3, C4, C5) with 5 min intervals of rests. The contractions continued until the onset of fatigue sensation such as obvious pain or considerable tiredness. Bipolar surface EMGs were recorded from 6 synergists of elbow flexors. Mean amplitude (AEMG) and relative power spectrum (RPW) of EMG were calculated. Partial correlation coefficients between time, AEMG, and RPW during each contraction were calculated. AEMG increased with time. EMG spectrum shifted towards lower frequencies with time. The correlations between AEMG and RPW were negative below 60Hz. AEMG and RPW were compared between C1 and C2-C5 being related with fatigue sensations. The changes in AEMG and EMG spectrum with the repeated contractions were similar to those with the development of fatigue. The increases in AEMG with the repeats were seen in most synergists in 4 subjects. The location-distance interference in motor short-term memory has frequently been demonstrated as an unavoidable interference phenomenon observed in the reproduction of movement location and distance in arm positioning. The most important aspect of this phenomenon is that even when a subject concentrates on a specific cue (i.e., either end-location or distance) the other cue is also coded unintentionally and, as a result, the reproduction movement guided on the basis of the specific cue is unavoidably influenced by the other nonspecific cue. In this review article, we first reviewed the literature on the basic theories and nature of short-term memory, particularly on the limited processing capacity. We then referred to the unlimited, automatic processing in visual-verbal domains, referring to the Stroop phenomenon. Hydroxyproline (Hyp) exist in the form of peptide and the free state in blood. It is generally thought that Hyp in blood derived from the decomposition of collagen in tissue. To clarify the influence on collagen metabolism due to aging and exercise training, we attempted to see the changes of Hyp content of serum before and after exercise in human being. Subjects were 51 adult aged 20 to 74 years, and 10 nonathletes and 51 athletes, aged 18 to 22 years. The Hyp content in serum was measured by woessner's method. The Hyp content of serum decreased with age. This fact suggests that the formation of intramolecular and intermolecular cross-links in collagen of tissue is accelerated by aging. And there is a possibility that the proportion of insoluble collagen increased in tissue of aged human being. Before the exercise, Hyp content of serum in athlete was lower than that in nonathletes. Hyp content of serum increased remarkably after the exercise in athlete. Seven subjects performed the static contractions of the elbow flexion and 6 subjects performed those of the planter flexion. Bipolar surface EMG was led from biceps brachii (BB) in the elbow flexion and from soleus in the planter flexion. Power spectra, mean amplitudes of EMG (AEMG) and durations of averaged waves classified by amplitude (AWCA) were calculated from EMG. The AWCA was calculated by averaging EMG waves separately for the 5 amplitude ranges of the trigger points. Relative power increased below 50 Hz in BB and 120 Hz in soleus during the contractions with time. Relative power in low frequencies (RPWL) increased with time even at the low contraction levels during one third part of the contraction from the start. But the RPWL decreased with time in some cases below and equal to 20% MVC. The increase in the RPWL was larger at 20-50% MVC than at 5-15% MVC contraction. The duration of AWCA increased with time at 30-50% MVC and decreased at 5-20% MVC. The duration, however, correlated positively with RPWL in part even at 5-20% MVC. The muscle fiber conduction velocity was calculated from the propagation time of the action potentials along the muscle fibers and the electrode separation using cross-correlation method. For badminton players, significant lateral differences (e.g. right side skillful) were observed in the upper arm girth (P < 0.01) and isokinetic peak torque at 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 rpm (P < 0.01). For control subjects, significant lateral differences were in upper arm girth (P < 0.05) and isokinetic peak torque at exactly 30 rpm (P < 0.05). As for muscle fiber conduction velocity, there were no statistically significant differences between right (4.16 +/- 0.34 m/sec) and left (4.08 +/- 0.34 m/sec) sides in badminton players, and the control group exhibited same tendency (right: 4.36 +/- 0.25 m/sec, left: 4.28 +/- 0.33 m/sec) as well. The subjects had previously participated in a visual lobe measurement and two search performance experiments using the same set of stimulus material. Using an Eye Mark Recorder, the average search times of subjects were found to be comparatively longer than for previous search tasks not using the recorder, and relative search performance ranks of the subjects were altered. The method of stimulus presentation and the search area were different in this experiment, so we cannot be certain as to which factor or factors caused the lengthening of search times and changes in ranking. All subjects achieved a 100% hit rate with no mis-classification of targets. A very high correlation coefficient was obtained for cumulative detection percentage and pooled search times when fitted to a random search model. Average search times were found to be significantly correlated with fixation durations as well as with the number of fixations.
