{"title":"[Temperature determination of the skin surface for the estimation of blood supply disorders in myocutaneous island flaps of rats].","authors":"U Herrberger, A Tilgner, D Schumann","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

In rectus abdominis myocutaneous island flaps (3.0 x 1.5 cm) of rats (Uje:WIST) skin surface temperature was measured by an infrared pyrometer for monitoring flap viability following experimentally induced blood flow insufficiency. The insufficiency was caused by ligation of the pedicle vessels (epigastric superior artery and vein) on the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th d after flap replantation, and by occlusion of these vessels with microclips for 2 h. Only the temperature differences between the intact and the operated skin surface were used to estimate blood flow efficiency not, the absolute values. These differences were statistically insignificant between the intact right and left abdominal skin areas and between the intact skin and the vital flap surfaces. In these cases the maximal temperature differences were 0.52 degree C. Only during the early postoperative period (3-days ligation group) a correlation between blood flow insufficiency and flap viability is expressed by temperature differences (2.14 degrees C). Later on (7-days ligation group) a temperature difference of 1.87 degrees C was no evidence of disturbed wound healing. Thus in advanced stages in myocutaneous flaps differences of blood flow and neovascularization respectively cannot be estimated reliably by measurements of skin surface temperature. However, temperature differences greater than 2 degrees C signal impaired flap viability.
","PeriodicalId":76864,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur Versuchstierkunde","volume":"32 1","pages":"33-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13853111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"[Physiological parameters of guinea pigs under long-term anesthesia with controlled respiration].","authors":"F Scheibe, C Ludwig, H Haupt, B Flemming","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

56 guinea pigs were anesthetized with a mixture of alpha-chloralose and a small dose of ethyl urethane injected i.p. in order to compare the chloralose-urethane anesthesia with neuroleptanesthesia, a mixture of droperidol-fentanyl and a small induction dose of Na-pentobarbital was injected i.p. to 14 animals. All animals were maintained at constant body temperature of 38 degrees C and artificially respirated via a tracheal cannula monitoring the end expiratory CO2 concentration. Mean arterial blood pressure (carotid artery) and heart rate were continuously recorded. Arterial acid-base status and pO2 were tested. Mean arterial blood pressure and heart rate were found to be somewhat higher in the neuroleptanesthetized animals. Under chloralose-urethane anesthesia and neuroleptanesthesia the mean arterial blood pressure amounted to 56 and 62 mm Hg, respectively. These findings correspond to data given in the literature concerning the mean pressure in unanesthetized guinea pigs. The mean heart rates of 295 and 316 min-1, respectively are somewhat higher compared to the normal range. Under both anesthesias, the arterial acid-base status was within the normal limits of unanesthetized animals. The mean arterial pO2 of 80.9 and 76.5 mm Hg was relatively low. The present studies have shown that chloralose-urethane as well as droperidol-fentanyl with pentobarbital are useful, under controlled artificial respiration, to achieve long-term anesthesia maintaining nearly normal systemic circulatory and respiratory conditions.
","PeriodicalId":76864,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur Versuchstierkunde","volume":"32 1","pages":"25-31"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13708901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diet pellets with identical ingredient composition but hardness of either 20 or 40 kp were prepared. Growth of the young not supplemented with feed was markedly depressed by the feeding of the 40-kp diet to the mothers, when compared with the 20-kp diet. If the young of mothers fed the 40-kp diet had free access to diet pellets with hardness of either 20 or 40 kp, their growth performance improved. When the breeding females were fed the 20-kp diet, feed supplementation of the young did not affect their body weight. This study suggests that the observed effect of diet pellet hardness on body weight of pre-weaned mice is mediated in part through the mothers. Free access to feed was found to stimulate growth of pre-weaned mice only if the mothers were fed extremely hard diet pellets.
","PeriodicalId":76864,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur Versuchstierkunde","volume":"32 6","pages":"257-60"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13760549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both methods have been tested on completely or partially iodine-resected rats. Because the results concerning the gamma camera could be quantified they could be compared to those of the gamma counter as a reference method. Assuming a linear relationship between both methods a correlation coefficient of r = 0.97 (n = 32) could be calculated. The capacity of both the scanner and the gamma camera was high enough to show even small amounts of residual thyroid tissue. Therefore both methods are extremely suitable for the diagnosis of the thyroid function. Using them as a control of the iodine-resection of the thyroidea a control group of animals is not necessary and, therefore, less animals are required. With regard to the narcosis of heavily hypothyroid animals it must be noted that the usually pentobarbital dosage must at least be reduced by one third.
","PeriodicalId":76864,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur Versuchstierkunde","volume":"32 1","pages":"17-24"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13853110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
