What is the value of radiotherapy in the treatment of adenocarcinoma of the endometrium?].","authors":"F Leborgne","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

Total hysterectomy is the most important step in the management of endometrial carcinoma.70% of endometrial carcinomas are seen in post menopausal women. Staging of these tumors depends on the histological type, the degree of penetration of these tumors and the presence of metastatic extension. Clinical evaluation of these patients, lymphangiography and surgical evaluation will complete the proper staging of the patients. Radiotherapy can be used associated with surgery either pre-surgically or post-surgically or as the only form of treatment, in those cases that are technically unresectable or with surgical contraindications or in the management of recurrent tumors or metastasis. The most widely used pre-op radiation has been intracavitary radiation following the Heyman packing technique. Some authors recommend external radiation of the pelvis with megavoltage doses of 4,000-5,000 rads and sometimes the association of internal-external radiation. Five years survival depends on staging of the disease and can vary from 75%-50%-25% or 5% for stages I through IV respectively. The incidence of vaginal metastasis after hysterectomy varies between 10-15% as opposed to an incidence of -4% after radiation.
","PeriodicalId":76463,"journal":{"name":"Revista interamericana de radiologia","volume":"5 1","pages":"31-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17823244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wilm's tumor had the highest incidence - 32 cases (49,2%); neuroblastoma was in the second place in incidence - 22 (33,8%) of the 65 cases of retroperitoneals tumors studied, were neuroblastoma. As registered by the author in previous paper, the neuroblastoma, on contrary of what is established in the specialized literature, not was: the most frequent abdominal tumors, in infancy and childhood, neither it was also the abdominal pediatric tumor which could match Wilm's tumor in incidence. The plain X ray film of the abdomen, the Excretory Urography, the Cavography and Arteriography, the Radiological Examination of the Stomach and Duodenum, of the Small Intestine and the Colons, contribute in a very important way to establish the topography (retro or intraperitoneal) of the pediatric abdominal tumors. The author emphasizes that the plain X ray film of the abdomen supply important elements for the conclusion concerning the localization of abdominal tumors, from the observation of a simple criterion - the retroperitoneals tumors obliterate the border of kidney, because they are placed in the same plan of the kidney, data which is not pointed out sufficiently by the authors who have studied the subject.
","PeriodicalId":76463,"journal":{"name":"Revista interamericana de radiologia","volume":"5 1","pages":"7-16"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18395760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To our knowledge, only six such cases with angiographic correlation have been previously reported in the literature. While the clinical diagnosis of arteriovenous fistula of the scalp is often not difficult, angiography plays an important role in guiding the surgeon by demonstrating multiplicity of feeding vessels and their origin from various trunks. One of our cases showed feeding vessels from the occipital artery and cervical branches of the vertebral and subclavian arteries. Our second case revealed superficial temporal and occipital arteries to be the feeding vessels. Total excision of the arteriovenous fistula rather than simple ligation should be performed to prevent recurrence, which results because of extensive collateral supply.
","PeriodicalId":76463,"journal":{"name":"Revista interamericana de radiologia","volume":"5 1","pages":"17-20"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18395757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
