By applying an adequate auditory stimulus to the abdomen of pregnant women in the last trimester of pregnancy and during labour, they were able to evoke a standard fetal heart rate and motor response. The authors come to the conclusion that, first, during the seventies a little less than 50% of the gestations in Valladolid were not planned or wanted. The first pregnancy is not planned in one out of four cases, of which nearly 50% are women under twenty years of age. The couples seek to control their reproduction once they have their first two children. From 30 years onward, seven out of ten pregnancies are neither planned nor wanted. Three quarters of the women investigated, or their husbands, use some method of birth control, normally of little efficacy, and this because of the method itself, or because of the deficient way they use it. \"Coitus interruptus\", alone or combined with other methods, is practised by two of three couples who seek to control their reproduction.</p>","PeriodicalId":76418,"journal":{"name":"Reproduccion","volume":"4 3","pages":"271-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18469864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to the clinical effect, pituitary responsiveness was studied. Immunoreactive FSH and LH in serum were measured by radioimmunoassay. One week after the treatment a complete descent of testes occurred in the four oldest patients. In another four patients, a clear-cut improvement in their condition was seen, and, in two patients, no effect was observed. In nine patients, a significant (p less than 0.001) rise in serum FSH and LH levels was observed. In one patient, serum gonadotropin levels remained unchanged. There was no correlation between the clinical effect and pituitary responsiveness. It was concluded that i.m. administration of LHRH offers advantages over the paranasal route since the dose required for a good effect appears to be considerably lower.</p>","PeriodicalId":76418,"journal":{"name":"Reproduccion","volume":"4 3","pages":"247-54"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17176339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
