Gingiva plays an important role in the esthetic appearance of an individual. Gingival pigmentation is considered to be unaesthetic by patients, and it may have a psychological impact on them. Gingival depigmentation is a periodontal plastic surgery procedure, and variety of depigmentation techniques have been described in the literature. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of diode laser and scalpel in gingival depigmentation procedure.\u0000\u0000MATERIAL AND METHOD\u0000A total of 12 patients with age range between 20 -40 years were selected in the randamized, split mouth study. The maxillary arch was divided into two segments: 1.Segment I- right first premolar to right central incisors. 2.Segment II- left first premolar to left central incisors. These two segments were randomly assigned to surgical scalpel and diode laser techniques modalities. The research included the following clinical evaluation parameters at baseline and 3 months: Dummet Oral Pigmentation Index (DOPI) by Dummet and Gupta (1964)and VAS for pain. \u0000\u0000RESULTS\u0000There is clinically no significant difference between the Dummet Oral Pigmentation Index (DOPI)and Visual analogue scale for pain between Laser and Scalpel for gingival depigmentation.\u0000\u0000CONCLUSION\u0000Therefore, within the limitation of this study it can be concluded that scalpel technique is still considered the gold standard treatment for gingival depigmentation.\u0000\u0000KEY WORDS- diode laser, Visual analogue scale (VAS), Dummet Oral Pigmentation Index (DOPI).

All the samples were upper right central incisors (11) typodont teeth, prepared to receive an All-ceramic crown. All the samples were prepared by mounting the typodont (NISSIN Typodont Jaw Model) on a phantom head simulator. All the preparations were made as freehand preparations. The following aspects of the preparation were evaluated:\u00001. Facial and palatal reduction \u00002. Occlusal clearance\u00003. Finish line width\u0000The evaluation of all the three aspects was done by studying a cross-section of an impression made on the prepared tooth. The impressions were made using a hard splint, which was fabricated on the typodont jaw model, prior to tooth preparation, as an impression tray. The impression material used was Light body(Zhermack Elite HD – Light normal set) impression material\u0000\u0000Results: The measurements and values obtained were subjected to statistical analysis to obtain the final result. Regarding the amount of prepared tooth surface, the frequency of errors encountered was more with regard to palatal reduction. Regarding the width of the finish line, Labial aspect of the finish line was most commonly under prepared.\u0000\u0000Conclusion: Within the limitations of the study, the main recommendation is to increase the pre-clinical practice time to emphasise more on the clinical expertise and the importance of proper operator positioning during tooth preparation.\u0000\u0000Key Words:Tooth preparation, All-ceramic restorations, Errors

All the reasons for tooth extraction such as dental caries, periodontitis, trauma, endo- perio lesions beyond salvaging the tooth, prosthetic reason or tooth in the line of radiation were recorded. The chi-square test was applied to check the association between tooth loss to the tabulated data collected for demographic details, oral hygiene practices and medical problems.\u0000\u0000Results: The mean age of the study subjects was 67.19±5.90. There was no statistical significant difference between tooth loss and presence of diabetes or hypertension or both. It was concluded from the study that the primary reason for tooth loss among study subjects was dental caries. About 16 subjects (7.4%) had both dental caries and periodontal disease. Only 20 (9.47%) study subjects had retained at least 20 teeth in the oral cavity. There was statistical significant difference between gender and reason for tooth loss (p=0.02). \u0000\u0000Conclusion: It can be concluded that dental caries was the main reason for the tooth loss compared to periodontal disease. \u0000\u0000Key words: Tooth loss, Dental caries, Elderly

While the overall success rate of implant dentistry is very high, dental implants seldom fail. The occurrence of implant failure is a matter of great concern for implantologists and awareness of such unavoidable fact is clinically important. The purpose of this review was to offer a critical evaluation of the literature and to provide the clinician with scientifically-based diagnostic criteria for monitoring the implant condition. Aetiologies and factors associated with implant failure should be elucidated for further improvement of the treatment outcome. This information may be necessary to develop effective strategies for treatment and prevention. Magnetic mallet (MM) is a dynamic, exclusive and patented device which makes use of electromagnetic impact, which allows a high – intensity and brief impact force to obtain plastic deformation of the bone. This avoids the applied forces influencing the whole of the craniofacial complex and has lot of advantages when compared to conventional chisel and mallet or bur used for bone cutting.\u0000Use of magnetic mallet prevents benign paroxysmal vertigo syndrome and reduces patient discomfort as well. It allows operator to use the handpiece of magnetic mallet with only one hand and the impulses are applied with a control pedal.
