The purpose of this experimental study was to investigate the effect of antibiotic administration on the healing of replanted teeth. 16 maxillary and mandibular permanent lateral incisors of four dogs aged from 5 to 7 months were immediately replanted without endodontic treatment. Oxytetracycline was administered intramuscularly the day of the experiment and twice daily through the experimental period in two of the dogs (8 teeth). The animals were sacrificed so as to provide observation periods of 15 and 22 days. Results were evaluated histopathologically in haematoxyline eosine stained sections. Results obtained showed shallower resorptine cavities without inflammatory cells in the experimental group (administration of antibiotics) than those found in the control group where inflammatory cells were also present.</p>","PeriodicalId":75901,"journal":{"name":"Hellenika stomatologika chronika. Its way of action is the same as phase II of coagulation mechanism and its result is due to the formation of a strong and extensive fibrin clot. Because of the presence of aprotinin, that inhibits fibrinolysis, this clot remains for a longer period. A fast haemostasis and a maintenance of tissues in contact is attained and the healing becomes easier and accelerated. In addition, Fibrinkleber is completely resorbable and has very good tissue compatibility, contrary to synthetic adhesives. Regarding experimental results the fibrin adhesive system has been applied in 58 clinical cases with the indications: 1. convocation of fistulas introoral or extraoral 2. as biological band 3. extraoral fixation of skin grafts, used in areas with poor possibility of other kinds of skin fixation 4. in cases with clef lip and cleft palace 5. in combination with bioceramic materials 6. in combination with lyo-dura for reconstruction of orbita-floor fractures. We believe that the fibrinkleber cannot help a bad surgical technique nor replace a well made stitch of a wound. It is however possible to: 1. improve the surgical result (normal epithelization of the open intraoral wounds) 2. to shorten the duration of the surgery (dermatic grafts without any stitching) 3. accelerate the healing phases of a surgical wound 4. allow the modification of surgical techniques, when this is possible (convergence of fistulas etc).</p>","PeriodicalId":75901,"journal":{"name":"Hellenika stomatologika chronika. The first time that bite marks were used officially was in 1977. After a historical review has been made, the kinds of bite marks and the methods they were heated, are described. The authors also deal with two cases of violent incidents with bite marks found on the shoulder, blade and thigh, of one adult man. They also deal with a case of a violent incident with bite marks on the buttock, thigh, left arm and right elbow, of a 18-month old child. The bite marks were caused by the nurse-maid of the child who was trying to make it obedient, because the child disturbed her with its noisy behaviour.</p>","PeriodicalId":75901,"journal":{"name":"Hellenika stomatologika chronika. In Greece, the public health expenditures amounted to an average of 3.5% of the G.N.P. for the period 1977-1983. The private sector represents a very significant component, amounting to 2.4% of the G.N.P. Dental health expenditures in Greece are considered significantly low. They account 2% of the total health expenditures. For comparison, in other developed countries this percentage is quite higher of the order of 5 to 10%.
