A plenty of orthodontic appliances are employed, the effectiveness of which remain debatable. This paper attempts to compare the three main orthodontic appliances used in our clinic: activator, headgear and combined headgear activator. Patients with a skeletal Class II anomaly at the beginning of treatment were studied with two different types of cephalometric analysis. The lateral X-ray head films were carried out directly before and after treatment. In this study the growth pattern of the patients' craniofacial complex has been seriously taken into consideration. Following conclusions are to be taken: The initial skeletal Class II anomaly as well as the orthodontic appliances have to be differentially evaluated by the treatment planning. The isolated changes are often not great, but taken as a whole, they attain to correct the existing anomaly. The annual rates of the jaws' length depends not only on the age, the sex and the duration of orthodontic treatment, but also on the growth pattern of the craniofacial complex and the particularities of treatment methods. In order to achieve the therapeutic aims all these factors are to be considered for the treatment planning.</p>","PeriodicalId":75901,"journal":{"name":"Hellenika stomatologika chronika. Yet there are problems related to their mental and physical health which should be taken into account. In this paper some information was given about the dental caries, periodontal diseases, oral mucosa diseases and tooth loss in the elderly population as well as about the dental treatment and prevention of dental services and the factors that affect it are referred. Nevertheless, according to the current way of thinking, the most important factors against tooth fractures are the preservation of as much as possible sound tooth structure as well as the use of full coverage. The amalgam coronal-radicular dowel and core technique is described in this paper. The method has been tested successfully in recent studies, both in vitro and in vivo. Its advantages are that it requires less sound tooth structure removal, involves uniform material for both the dowel and the core, is accomplished in a single chair side session and can be easily removed. It can accordingly be used as a complete crown build up in cases where prosthetic treatment has to be postponed for various reasons.</p>","PeriodicalId":75901,"journal":{"name":"Hellenika stomatologika chronika. Secondary caries continuous to be a serious problem although amalgam has been improved to a large extent. All efforts that have been made to eliminate the problem of secondary caries associated with amalgam fillings have not been very successful so far. There is always a lack of permanent seal between restorations and the prepared tooth surfaces so that microleakage always exists. The purpose of this paper was to search the literature on the subject and find ways and attempts that have been made on the elimination of secondary caries. On the other hand was aimed to present and discuss the application of fluorides into the cavity preparation as a preventive method of eliminating secondary caries as well as the possible effects of fluorides on the dental pulp if they exist. The literature gives a lot of information on the subject and fluorides in the cavity before the filling insertion seems to be a safe and approved method against secondary caries. Regarding the effect of fluorides on the pulp it is indicated that when the proper agent and technique is used there is no any deleterious effect and the method is not contraindicated.</p>","PeriodicalId":75901,"journal":{"name":"Hellenika stomatologika chronika.
