Experience shows that computerized tomography is of considerable usefulness in these cases because it detects recurring tumours (< 2 cm dia.) quite definitely; at the same time it screens the peritumourous area with infiltrations and enlargements of lymph nodes and therefore gives necessary information to the surgeon as to whether the tumour is operable, and to the radiotherapist as to the exact localisation and extension of the tumour for optimal irradiation planning. Computerized tomography should be incorporated in the after care programme of patients suffering from a carcinoma of the rectum.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":75732,"journal":{"name":"Computerized tomography","volume":"5 2","pages":"Pages 161-168"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1981-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0363-8235(81)90092-2","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18023198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
