Three hundred primiparas who delivered vaginally in The Affiliated Hospital of Kangda College of Nanjing Medical University from January 2022 to July 2022 were enrolled, and were divided into control and intervention groups. The control accepted traditional delivery without special analgesic intervention, while the intervention group accepted intraspinal block analgesia at the time of delivery. The results showed that related to the control group, the intervention group presented shorter first and second stages of labour, higher pelvic organ prolapse quantification (POP-Q) scores (0 and 1 degree) and hand-measured pelvic floor muscle strength scores, lower abnormal rate of muscle fatigue (class I and II), higher values of rapid contraction stage, tension contraction stage, and endurance contraction stage, lower values of pre-resting stage and post-resting stage, lower incidences of urinary retention and incontinence and higher VLQ and SSQ scores. We conclude that the implementation of analgesic delivery in primiparous women can effectively shorten the first and second stages of labor, suppress the damage to pelvic floor function, and elevate maternal satisfaction with sexual life.</p>","PeriodicalId":7551,"journal":{"name":"African journal of reproductive health","volume":"28 11","pages":"152-159"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2024-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142930417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to determine the relationship between working mothers' breastfeeding motivation, workplace breastfeeding support, and job satisfaction. This descriptive and correlational study was conducted in Turkey between January and March 2020. Data from 195 mothers, who worked in three different public institutions, were collected in person using the Questionnaire Form and Workplace Breastfeeding Support Scale, Breastfeeding Motivation Scale, and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire Short Form. We used the statistical tests analyses of variance (ANOVA), Kruskal-Wallis H test, and Spearman's rho correlation analysis, with a significance level of p < 0.05. There was a weak positive correlation between the workplace breastfeeding support total score and breastfeeding intrinsic motivation (r = 0.151, p < 0.05). A weak positive correlation was found between the total score of the job satisfaction scale and the peer and environmental support subscale (r = 0.182, p < 0.05). Participants self-evaluated their breastfeeding competence. The difference between workplace breastfeeding support and breastfeeding competence was significant (F = 4.443, p < 0.05). Working mothers who perceived greater peer and environmental support also reported more breastfeeding intrinsic motivation and higher job satisfaction. Mothers with high breastfeeding competence had positive perceptions of workplace breastfeeding support. The study aimed to examine multilevel determinants of deaths of children under five in South Africa. Secondary data from the 2016 South Africa Demographic Health Survey was used to conduct bivariate and multilevel logistic regression analyses. The under-five mortality rate was estimated at 42.1 deaths per 1000 live births. The under-five mortality rates were highest in Mpumalanga and lowest in Western Cape. The findings showed that several factors were associated with under-five deaths, namely the sex of the child, population group, mother's level of education, household wealth, type of toilet facility, source of drinking water, and province. The findings call for targeted interventions aimed at reducing under-five deaths among vulnerable groups, i.e., those from a low socioeconomic background, from the black population group, as well as male children.</p>","PeriodicalId":7551,"journal":{"name":"African journal of reproductive health","volume":"28 11","pages":"181-195"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2024-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142930035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to assess middle-aged teachers' knowledge, attitudes, and quality of life-related to menopause after receiving education on health-promoting lifestyle modification. A quasi-experimental Time Series design with pre-intervention, immediate, post-intervention, and a three-month follow-up was employed in this study. Through a purposive sampling technique, 84 middle-aged teachers were selected. A pre-designed questionnaire was used to gather information on knowledge, attitude, and the Menopause Specific Quality of Life (MENQOL) on menopause. The health-promoting lifestyle modification education was given through lectures and group discussions. Using SPSS version 22, repeated measure ANOVA was used to assess the impact of educational instruction at the three time periods. The mean knowledge score was 3.6±1.2 at the pre-intervention, 21.3±1.6 at the immediate post-intervention, and 24.4±1.3 at the 3-month follow-up. With a statistical significance of (p 0.0001), it was found that the knowledge score at the 3-month follow-up was considerably higher than it was at the pre-intervention (p 0.0001). At each of the three time intervals, the mean scores for attitude were 14.8±2.7, 39.4±1.01, and 43.3±1.2. This shows, that the educational intervention had changed the mean attitude scores, with a statistical significance of (p 0.0001). However, a paucity of research has explored this relationship. Using IPUMS Demographic and Health Surveys data from 2011-2018 across eight Southern African nations, we analyzed 17,968 women's attitudes towards wife beating and their reproductive choices through a cross-sectional design and multilevel logistic regression models. Our findings reveal that 84.9% of women expressed negative attitudes towards wife abuse, with 44.2% demonstrating autonomy in reproductive choices. Women who opposed wife beating exhibited greater autonomy in reproductive decision-making (44.6%), while those justifying wife discipline showed decreased autonomy (aOR = 0.84, 95% CI [0.78-0.91]). Older age (aOR = 1.37, 95% CI [1.19-1.58]) and higher education (aOR = 2.15, 95% CI [1.18-2.60]) increased the likelihood of autonomy. Country-level variations were evident, with Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Zambia showing higher autonomy odds compared to Angola.
