They exhibit well defined characteristics in space and time. In contrast with normal development tooth bud formation in teratomas display malformations and other observable characteristics which are primarily the consequence of defects in coordination of activities among cells. Cyto-differentiation appears to be normal and the defective organogenesis must represent a breakdown of the principles which underlie the organization of structures. The possible role of the environment in organizing structure is discussed. Teratomas are unique biological systems which display in a dynamic way a panoply of teratological developmental processes of which teeth buds represent a fragmentary, repetitive and conspicuous expression.</p>","PeriodicalId":75498,"journal":{"name":"Annales d'anatomie pathologique","volume":"23 4-5","pages":"287-308"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1978-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"11953083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a first series of 6 groups (120 animals), the following facts were noted: tumours deeveloped in all animals left alive, after 28 weeks (total dose of 1/2 D.M.H. = 420 MG/KG). Changes in the mucosa were seen from the 40th day on with, in the descending colon, a punctate abnormality involving two or three glandular tubes, in general at the summit of the folds. This abnormality consisted of basophilia of the upper part of the tubes, with a loss of mucus secretion. All transitional stages were seen between this lesion, hyperplasia of the apex of the tubes, the formation of \"polyp seeds\" and the appearance of polyps. Carcinomas most frequently developed in polyps but sometimes in flat mucosa. The consequences as far as the cerebral parenchyma are then studied: involvement of the pons, in isolation or associated with appearances of ischaemic necrosis in other regions (midbrain, cerebellum, diencephalon, cerebral hemispheres), is most important since it is found in 88.3 p. 100 of cases. A previous study has shown that tumors begin to appear only after the 19th week. Before this period there are abnormalities of mucin secretion (by the 2nd week), and then there are dysplasic lesions (after the 4th week). The ultrastructure study, done before the 19th week (\"pretumor\" phase) confirms some previous observations (increase in the zone of mitosis, secretory changes, mutation producing effects). These features are reminiscent of the histochemical characteristics of the human foetal colon. They show an epitheliomesenchymatous disorganisation unrelated to inflammation. There are abnormally early changes in the vasculature, there is loss of the (epithelial) coat, there is dissociation of the basal membrane and abnormal connections between it and the epithelial cells, collagen and fibroblasts; all this represents a disorganisation of the regeneration system of the colon mucosa. This loss of equilibrium between the parenchyma and the mesenchyma may represent a factor favoring excessive and disorganised growth of the mucosa.</p>","PeriodicalId":75498,"journal":{"name":"Annales d'anatomie pathologique","volume":"23 4-5","pages":"309-32"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1978-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"11953084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This fact, incombination with the richness of the nodes in epitheloid cells, is such that this case resembles the type II \"dysimmune and pseudo-lymphomatous lymphadenopathies\" (DPLL) of Delsol et al. Although the term AIL has never been used before in the title of previous publications of pseudo-lymphomas occuring during Sjögren's syndrome, it would seem possible, as has already been suggested by Diebold et al. It was confirmed by the presence of numerous granulations by electron microscopy and by that of a chloracetate esterase activity detected using Leder's protocol (9) on sections of material mounted in paraffin wax after formol fixation. Four marrow biopsies form different sites were normal. The course was fatal in six months, despite multiple chemotherapy, with massive invasion of the thorax by the tumor without the presence of myeloblasts in the circulating blood. The autopsy confirmed the preponderance of thoracic involvement (greenish in colour) and the presence of diffuse marrow myeloblastosis.
