Materials and methods: AgNPs were synthesized by the chemical reducing method. Characterization was done using Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Two and four weight percentages of MMT powder and the prepared MMT/AgNPs powder were added to the bone cement. A total of 75 PMMA bone cement specimens were prepared and divided into 5 groups (control group, PMMT/MMT 2%, PMMT/MMT 4%, PMMT/MMTAgNps 2% and PMMT/MMTAgNps 4%). Then they were tested regarding the compressive strength, flexural strength and antibacterial activity. Results: SEM images showed the layered MMT with light spots indicating presence of AgNPs that was confirmed by XRD; while TGA showed its thermal stability. Compressive strength results revealed statistically insignificant difference between the control and the tested groups while the 4% PMMA/MMT showed statistically significant higher values than the 2%. Statistically insignificant difference in flexural strength results were found between the 2% and 4% concentrations within the PMMA/ MMT/AgNPs group, and within the PMMA/MMT group. Antibacterial results revealed statistical significant differences in all the tested groups (p<0.001). Conclusion: MMT could be used as a controlled delivery system to hold AgNPs that proved to have antibacterial effect when added to PMMA cement. Subjects and Methods: Thirty six single rooted teeth from patients of age range between 20 and 50 years old were involved in this study. According to irrigation procedures, patients were assigned randomly and equally into two groups of 18 teeth per group. Group I (conventional irrigation) and Group II (EndoVac irrigation). Irrigating solution for both groups was 2.5% sodium hypochlorite. All patients were treated in a single visit. The access cavity was prepared, and a microbiological sample (S1) was obtained. The root canal was chemomechanically prepared with ProTaper rotary instruments up to #F4. Finally, after irrigation activation, the second microbiological sample (S2) was collected. Samples were cultured on plates of nutrient agar, incubated for one day at thirty seven °C, and colony forming units (CFU) were counted and recorded. The primary outcome assessed microbial reduction in both groups. The pain was measured using a Numeric rating Scale (NRS) at 6, 12, 24, and 72 hours to determine the secondary outcome. Results: The mean percentage reduction in microbial count in Group II was statistically significantly higher than in Group I (P ≤ 0.05). Conventional group (G I) showed statistically significantly higher pain scores than EndoVac group (G II) (P ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: In necrotic teeth with apical periodontitis, EndoVac could be utilized as an adjunct to conventional root canal irrigation.","PeriodicalId":7493,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Dental Journal for Girls","volume":"35 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73444980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and methods : Eighty primary and permanent teeth were equally divided into eight subgroups (n=10), according to the immersion solutions: Depakine, Ventolin, Sansovit, and Artificial saliva. The immersion cycles of the drugs were conducted under a 1-min agitation three times daily for 28 days. Enamel microhardness measurements were taken place at 0,7,14,21, and 28 days. The pH, titratable acidity, buffering capacity, and viscosity of the solutions were evaluated. A Scanning electron microscopy and statistical analysis of enamel microhardness measurements were assessed. Results: All the tested groups of the drugs had proven to produce significant demineralization of enamel after 28 days of exposure. At baseline, the permanent enamel showed higher mean enamel microhardness values than primary teeth. Generally with all the tested drugs, the primary teeth showed more decrease in enamel microhardness than permanent but without significance. The primary group (0-28days) , the highest decrease of enamel microhardness was recorded in Sansovit group, then Ventolin, followed by Depakine group without significant change between the tested drugs, while in the permanent group, the highest decrease of enamel microhardness was recorded in Sansovit, then Depakine, followed by Ventolin group without significant change between the tested drugs. Kruskall Wallis test revealed a significant difference between tested drugs and control groups in both substrates. Conclusion: This study revealed that medicines used in the study could erode teeth even though the pH was above critical pH if it had high sugar content and viscosity. Sugar-free formulations have the ability to produce an erosive effect if they have low pH, high titratable acidity, high buffering capacity, and viscosity. This study showed that permanent teeth had higher mean enamel microhardness values than primary teeth, however no significant difference in the erosive potential of both types of teeth.","PeriodicalId":7493,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Dental Journal for Girls","volume":"326 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76363940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and methods: Fifty-four discs of ceramics were made from three dental ceramic materials (High translucency zirconia, low translucency IPS E.max CAD and translucent Vita Suprinity). Shade of three dental ceramics was A2. They were divided into three equal groups (n=18). Each group was subdivided into three subgroups (n=6) according to composite substrate shade (A4, B4, C4) on which each ceramic disc was cemented with translucent resin cement. Color difference(∆E) and translucency parameter (TP) were evaluated by spectrophotometer. Results: Before cementation, IPS E.max showed the highest median TP values. As regards color change, no statistically significant difference between the three dental ceramic types was found. Also, non-statistical significance difference between three shades of composite substrate (A4, B4, C4). Conclusions: IPS E.max (low translucency) shows better translucency than translucent vita suprinity and High translucency zirconia. In all types of ceramics, there was statistically significant decrease in translucency parameter (TP) after cementation with translucent resin cement. The color changes (∆E) exceeded the perceptible limit for the three types of dental ceramic, so it was concluded that the tested ceramics didn’t exhibit sufficient color masking ability to hide the dark substrate of the composite shades used (A4, B4, C4).","PeriodicalId":7493,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Dental Journal for Girls","volume":"18 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83319613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
