Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) is an evolving field of practice that lacks research traditions. Evidence guiding the practice of healthcare professionals in CBR and supporting its implementation is fragmented. A review of the literature was conducted to identify research studies pertinent to the employment of IR in CBR. This paper demonstrates that the principles of IR resonate with the principles of inclusion, equality, empowerment and partnership of CBR. It also posits that IR can serve as a research tradition to underpin and guide the conduction of research studies in CBR, and to provide the necessary evidence to support its accountability.","PeriodicalId":74678,"journal":{"name":"Research in health science","volume":"66 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89263484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this retrospective study is to investigate the effect of body mass index (BMI) on surgical outcomes of bilateral video-assisted thoracoscopic sympathectomy (VATS) for PH patients from Arabian ethnic group. Methods: Between January 2009 and December 2018, a total of 79 patients underwent VATS as a treatment for PH at Jordan University Hospital. Postoperative assessment was done via patients’ subjective reporting of their satisfaction with the outcome of performed procedure. Results: The mean age of the studied population was 23.2 ± 4.5 years, of which 34 (43%) were males and 45 (57%) were females. Satisfaction with the outcome of VATS was significantly associated with having dry palms as a desirable outcome (p < 0.001), and with older age (p = 0.002). BMI was neither significantly associated with their satisfaction (p = 0.128), nor with compensatory hyperhidrosis (CH) (p= 0.859).Conclusion: VATS is considered an effective treatment for PH, with high rates of patient’s satisfaction. Neither the level of satisfaction nor the occurrence of CH was associated with patients’ BMI.","PeriodicalId":74678,"journal":{"name":"Research in health science","volume":"71 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86149616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Parental factors like efficacy have gained attention as this concept is grounded in behavioral change research. Studies have linked efficacy to improved child health behaviors like eating a more nutritious diet and engaging increased physical activity. This leads to a need to examine parental efficacy literature to examine its relationship to childhood obesity. Methods: Six databases including the Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, CINAHL, PubMed, Psychinfo, EBSCOhost, and Onesearch were searched for original research studies examining parental efficacy and child health measures like diet, activity, or weight.Results: Only 16 articles were found that met criteria. This limited research did showcase that higher parental efficacy levels are linked to positive effects, especially regarding improved child diet. There is also evidence of an inverse relationship between higher efficacy and lower child weights and higher efficacy and improved child activity levels, though this was not uniformly found. This review also showcased significant variance in how efficacy is measured and how it is used within studies. Conclusion: Connections between parental efficacy and child healthy behaviors has been established in multiple studies. However, this remains an under-examined area that needs further study to understand how it can be used to improve interventions.","PeriodicalId":74678,"journal":{"name":"Research in health science","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80480790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

My inquiry includes an unpacking of the construct of mistrust from the construct of trust based in the current literature. Once situated, I undertook a semiotic study of empirical data about the construct of mistrust based on the experiences of stakeholders in a local nonprofit organization as events unfolded during a 9-month period from August 2018 until April 2019. Applying repeated iterations of the data I constructed a contextualized thick description of mistrust. The findings of the study impact the common sense and didactic interpretations of mistrust. Practitioners of social change can apply the results to expand available strategies to mitigate mistrust and reduce the stresses that compromise the resources available to their communities and organizations to fulfill their objectives.","PeriodicalId":74678,"journal":{"name":"Research in health science","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84322211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge and attitudes of Jordanian females towards various regional analgesic techniques. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey on 652 Jordanian women with a mean age of 32.9 (±8.17). Data collection took place at the gynecological and obstetrics clinics between December, 2017 and September, 2018. Results: Subjects with higher educational levels tend to have better knowledge about regional analgesia (p-value = 0.003), are less likely to ask for general anesthesia (GA) (p < 0.001), and have more previous regional analgesia 47.9% (p < 0.001). Moreover, multiparous women had better knowledge about regional analgesia and higher tendency to ask for it as an efficacious analgesic method during delivery (p < 0.05). Conclusions: In conclusion, even though higher educational levels and multiparty were significantly associated with better knowledge and acceptance rate of regional analgesia, sources of information about regional analgesia plays an important role, emphasizing on the significant role of anesthesiologists and obstetricians in increasing the awareness levels in our society.","PeriodicalId":74678,"journal":{"name":"Research in health science","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87050674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Employers contend that many graduates have limited critical thinking strengths; a cognitive attribute that manifest itself in needed workplace skills.This article summarizes the conceptual framework and organizational features that, over a seven-year period, fostered the establishment of a statewide undergraduate health administration internship program. The internship is embedded in an AUPHA-certified health administration curriculum in a Midwest state university. The internship is discussed as a part of the health administration curriculum and as an experiential bridge from the university’s didactic world to the health service work environment. Enhancing interns’ critical thinking is the internship goal; an outcome pursued through experiential learning in the placement site and augmented with structured input from the university. Internship projects, assignments, project execution, and, preceptor guidance continuously augment the internship’s cycle of experiential learning. As the internship matured, mutual benefits between the program and participating facilities emerged. These returns are discussed under the headings of: a) employment support, b) research collaboration, c) networking opportunities, d) promotional outreach, and e) outcome-assessment research. These returns continuously reinforce value for all internship stakeholders.","PeriodicalId":74678,"journal":{"name":"Research in health science","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75964916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chances of living one-year after diagnosis are high (~98%), and health self-management is essential to reduce risks of recurrence. Mobile health (mHealth) has emerged as a wide-reaching and cost-effective way of providing health information and support. Therefore, we conducted a narrative review of the currently available mHealth literature and synthesised the literature according to the impacts of mHealth interventions on patient outcomes, the potential mechanism for behaviour change and innovative approaches to developing future mHealth interventions. Results found a small amount of evidence for the value of mHealth interventions (text message programs, smartphone applications and activity trackers) for supporting women after breast cancer treatment. However, accessibility, cost and gender inequities may pose barriers to implementation. Developing consumer-led mHealth interventions based on lived-experiences will be essential to improving user outcomes. In conclusion, mHealth interventions are widely available and have the potential to support women after breast cancer treatment and further robust research will determine effectiveness in specific subgroups and populations.","PeriodicalId":74678,"journal":{"name":"Research in health science","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85364559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
