It was characterized by an aggressive biological behavior, with early metastatic spread and poor prognosis. Diagnostic clues and molecular features were not completely elucidated so far. Histological features including tubulo-papillary architecture, cleared neoplastic cells, fetal oncoproteins expression were diagnostic requirements. We describe a new case of enteroblastic colonic adenocarcinoma (CAED) in the sigmoid, exhibiting small intestinal phenotype, higher stage at diagnosis and early liver metastases. At molecular level, CAED shared both TP53 gene mutation and beta-catenin nuclear translocation with conventional colonic adenocarcinoma. Altered human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER) 2 signaling has been described in a small subset of conventional colonic adenocarcinoma. At best of our knowledge our report represents the first immunohistochemical recognition of HER2 gene amplification in CAED. Given its aggressive clinical behavior, clinicians should be aware of the possible HER2 amplification, that could point toward further treatment options.","PeriodicalId":73961,"journal":{"name":"Journal of surgery and research","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87289188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An effective diagnosis is necessary to manage this cancer in its preliminary stages. After a radiological examination of the palpable breast lumps, a core needle biopsy (CNB) or fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), is performed. The study focuses on comparing the accuracy and efficacy of FNAC and CNB in diagnosing palpable breast lumps. Design A randomized, open-labeled, comparative research. Setting selected The randomization technique was used to divide patients into two groups, i.e., undergoing FNAC or CNB. The results thus obtained were compared the post-operative histopathological Biostatistical parameters such as sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and accuracy. Results The sensitivity of CNB and FNAC was 92.8% and 86.6% respectively, whereas the specificity and positive predictive value of both the tests were 100%. NPV of CNB was 95%, and that of FNAC was 90%. The accuracy of CNB was 96.96% and that of FNAC was 93.90%. Conclusion Better cellularity, the possibility of immunohistochemical analysis and better characterization of specimens make core needle biopsy more efficacious than FNAC. It is more sensitive and accurate than FNAC. Core needle biopsy provides a more dependable preoperative diagnosis which can help in creating a prudent algorithm for management of a palpable breast lump, thereby more often leading to definitive surgical treatment.","PeriodicalId":73961,"journal":{"name":"Journal of surgery and research","volume":"32 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79018365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Advances in medicine have elongated the average life span and subsequently made chronic diseases prevalent. Hemodialysis is the main treatment that is used to treat ESRD and is a clinical procedure that is being re-imagined with novel approaches to improve patient and clinic practicality and effectiveness. Arteriovenous Fistulas (AVF) are now used in place of catheters due to their higher success and lower co-morbidities. The main drawback of AVF is the time gap that is needed from the surgical creation of AVF to its use. During this time, the AVF is susceptible to thrombosis and occlusion rendering the fistula ineffective for treatment. Immune cells play a major role in vascular pathologies and macrophages, dendritic cells, and T-regulatory cells are the main cells seen during the inflammatory and anti-inflammatory phases. However, the role of immune response and immune cells in AVF maturation is poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the immune response and immune cell expression in femoral vessels after AVF creation in a miniswine model of AVF using immunohistochemistry and qRT-PCR. The results of this study revealed an increased expression of immune cells in AVF vessels and suggest an association of immune response with AVF creation and maturation.</p>","PeriodicalId":73961,"journal":{"name":"Journal of surgery and research","volume":" ","pages":"423-434"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9354142/pdf/nihms-1823003.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"40593598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many techniques are described for repair of acute quadriceps tendon rupture, including tendon-totendon repair, trans-osseous tunnels, synthetic augmentation, tendon plasty and the use of suture anchors. There is no single accepted surgical treatment. This study's objective was to assess the efficacy of a double-crossed suture anchor repair in the management of quadriceps tendon rupture. Materials and methods 85 patient attended our institute for surgical management of quadriceps tendon rupture over eight years (2012-2019). Twenty patients were treated with the use of a double-crossed suture anchor fixation. These patients were allowed to weight bear in a hinged knee brace for six weeks following surgery. Eighteen out of twenty patients had one or more predisposing comorbidities, including obesity, diabetes, renal failure, quinolone and steroid use. Results Clinical and functional outcomes were recorded during follow up visits prospectively for a mean of one year (10-14 months). The mean knee flexion was 124 degree (120-130). All patients were able to return to activities of daily living (ADL) with a mean of 2 J Surg Res 2022; 5 (1): 173-184 DOI: 10.26502/jsr.10020210 Journal of Surgery and Research Vol. 5 No. 1 March 2022. Method: Fresh fecal samples were collected from 10 post pull-through Hirschsprung disease patients and age range-matched 10 healthy children. Bacterial DNA obtained from fecal samples were analyzed using 16S rRNA Illumina MiSeq platform. Results: Our findings demonstrated the significantly increased Firmicutes in Hirschsprung disease group compared to the healthy group (corrected p-value=0.007) at the phylum level. In addition, the Firmicutes/ Bacteroidetes ratio in Hirschsprung disease group was 4.8 times higher than that of its control counterpart. Bacilli were also significantly increased (corrected p-value=0.004), while Erysipelotrichi and Actinobacteria were significantly decreased in Hirschsprung disease patients (corrected p-value=0.04 and 0.03, respectively) at the class level. Moreover, functional analysis demonstrated that 20 enzymes and 18 Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways were significantly different between groups (corrected p-value<0.01). Conclusion: A distinct dysbiosis even when the aganglionic segment had already been removed was remarkably evident in young children with Hirschsprung disease, with a significant increase in Firmicutes and a nearly five-fold increase in proportion of Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes which may potentially be employed as the dysbiosis-related biological indicator.","PeriodicalId":73961,"journal":{"name":"Journal of surgery and research","volume":"302 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90489583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
