Doses and schedules of this drug vary widely but it is not clear whether this affects outcomes. We performed this retrospective analysis to compare the efficacy and toxicity of continuous high-dose chlorambucil (12-20 mg daily until response or toxicity) (cHD-Clb-R) and intermittent high dose chlorambucil (8-10 mg/m2 daily for 7 days q 4 wk) (iClb-R) in combination with rituximab (375 mg/m2/cycle for 8 cycles) in previously untreated CLL patients. Thirtysix patients received cHD-Clb-R and 32 iClb-R. Median age was 66 years (range 41-80); 24 were women and 44 men; 24 had Binet stage A, 27 B and 17 C; 5 had del(17p). Most common severe adverse events were granulocytopenia, occurring in 14; and infections in 7 patients, one of whom died. One patient stopped treatment due to hepatotoxicity. Both schedules resulted in similar toxicity and efficacy (cHD-Clb-R vs. iClb-R overall survival, progression-free survival and survival without next treatment at 30 mo. 70% vs. 83%, 49% vs. 55% and 67% vs. 75% respectively). Combinations of rituximab and chlorambucil are well tolerated and effective treatments for patients ineligible for fludarabine-based regimens. Outcomes seem to be related more to total drug doses than schedules.","PeriodicalId":73634,"journal":{"name":"Journal of cancer science and clinical therapeutics","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69348054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Case Presentation: A 76-year-old female patient complained about a rapidly growing anterior neck mass and a change in her voice. Based on the patient's symptoms, clinical examination, neck and thyroid ultrasound with fine needle aspiration cytology, the patient was initially diagnosed with suspicious thyroid nodule thereafter, total thyroidectomy with left neck node dissection. However, her J Cancer Sci Clin Ther 2022; 6 (1): 16-24 DOI: 10.26502/jcsct.5079142 Journal of Cancer Science and Clinical Therapeutics 17 disease was finally diagnosed according to the histopathology result as Primary squamous cell cancer (PSCC). Conclusion: Primary squamous cell cancer (PSCC) of thyroid are poor prognosis when associated with locally tissue infiltration and infected necrosis, the proper history, good neck and thyroid examination support by neck sonography help full to diagnosis the thyroid malignancy in general, the best treatment for Primary squamous cell cancer (PSCC) was total thyroidectomy with or without lymph node dissection followed by radiochemotherapy.","PeriodicalId":73634,"journal":{"name":"Journal of cancer science and clinical therapeutics","volume":"62 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69348220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, less is known about their interactions among cancer patients. A mapping systematic review was undertaken to identify gaps in the literature regarding the interactions of socioeconomic factors and PA and the identification of theoretical model to define this relationship. A search for peer-reviewed English articles published between January 2010 and March 2020 in Medline, PsycINFO, Web of Science and SportDiscus databases was realized using three keywords: physical activity, cancer, socioeconomic. Cancer location and time, socioeconomic factor measurement, PA measurement, intervention and theoretical model were analyzed. Of the J Cancer Sci Clin Ther 2021; 5 (4): 468-495 DOI: 10.26502/jcsct.5079132 Journal of Cancer Science and Clinical Therapeutics 469 5163 articles found, 90 were included (86 observational studies and 4 interventions). While many studies evaluate socioeconomic factors and PA, authors often do not consider their interactions, but test them separately. Socioeconomic factors identified in the studies ranged among 12 categories (age, sex, ethnicity, education, income, occupation, residence, green space exposure, marital status, household, social support, Health insurance). A high diversity of measurements within each category led to a huge variation in the definition of socioeconomic factors and refrained comparison between studies. Similar conclusions could be drawn with regard to the diversity of PA measurements. Only few studies mobilized theoretical models, without considering the interactions between socioeconomic factors and PA. The definition of socioeconomic factors as well as theoretical modeling of how socioeconomic factors interact with PA among cancer patients needs to be clarified.","PeriodicalId":73634,"journal":{"name":"Journal of cancer science and clinical therapeutics","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69348094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pandemic’s impact on treatment delivery was assessed in patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment at a major London oncology centre. Methods: Treatment and medical records for all patients attending the chemotherapy unit and on outpatient treatment for breast cancer over an 8 week period (during first lockdown; 23rd March-17th May 2020) were compared to a similar time period in 2019. Results: Breast cancer diagnosis referrals fell by 38% mainly due to screening services halting which had a knock-on effect on patient numbers starting their first treatment (reduced by 34%). Neoadjuvant, adjuvant, and palliative patients were all affected, mostly at the start of lockdown. On-site chemotherapy and supportive treatments fell by 39% compared to 2019, mainly due to fewer number of bone-modifying agents. Towards the end of 8 week period, treatment numbers had nearly returned to normal. The system adapted by modifying treatment regimens, using telemedicine, increased use of supportive medications and less frequent blood tests. Conclusion: COVID-19’s global impact has significantly reduced breast cancer treatments given during the first lockdown. Whilst recovery is now evident, cancer services, patients, and clinical cancer research must be prioritised in future waves.","PeriodicalId":73634,"journal":{"name":"Journal of cancer science and clinical therapeutics","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69367565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study explored the factors that affect women's decision to have BRS after the mastectomy, the level of awareness of the available BRS options and their suggestions to improve the acceptance of BRS. Materials and methods: A questionnaire was distributed to patients diagnosed with BC in Saudi Arabia. Results: A total of 352 women were recruited for this cross-sectional study. Age and high educational attainment were significantly associated with a positive decision for BRS. Physical appearance and self-confidence were essential factors in the decision-making for BRS. The main barriers were the surgical risks and strong religious beliefs. Interestingly, both breasts removed affect women’s social life positively compared to those who had one breast removed. The majority (70%) of the sample did not know of the educational campaigns held by the Ministry of Health. The main suggestion to increase interest in BRS is the presence of clinicians throughout the treatment journey.
