PA is a rare disease especially in the developed world where PA tends to be more commonly associated with patients who have diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, chronic liver disease, immunosuppressive disease, HIV Infection, renal transplantation, and long-term urethral catheterisation. PA tends to be more commonly encountered in the developing world. PA could be an acute abscess or chronic abscess especially in association with chronic inflammatory conditions including tuberculosis or intravesical instillations of Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG). PA tends to constitute 0.5% of all urology disease and 6% of all acute cases of bacterial prostatitis. The mortality rate associated with PA has tended to be between 1% and 16% of all cases of prostate abscess. PA tends to be most commonly encountered in individuals who are in their fifth to sixth decade and could occur at any age. PAs that are due to sexually transmitted organisms tend to be more commonly encountered in younger males. PA tends to affect the central zone as well as the peripheral zones of the prostate gland. Haematogenous dissemination from a primary source of infection from a primary infection elsewhere have been reported and some of the reported sources included respiratory tract, digestive tract, urinary tracts, skin, and soft tissue are very rare. PA has also been reported to be associated with staghorn calculus. Some of the reported bacterial organisms that have caused acute prostate abscess (APA) include: Escherichia Coli, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Proteus, Enterobacter, Enterococcus, and staphylococcus. Other causes of prostate abscess have included other bacteria and fungal infection including: Brucellosis, Salmonella, Nocardia, Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Prostate abscess has also been reported in association with malignancy of the prostate gland. Manifestations of prostate abscess could include: (a) systemic symptoms including pyrexia, chills, headache, general malaise, low back ache and in some rare cases of prostate abscess, a history of treatment for tuberculosis or contact with a person who has tuberculosis, or travel to a salmonella endemic area may be obtained and in cases of Brucellosis PAs drinking of raw milk / contact with animals may be elicited and or rare occasions treatment of superficial urothelial carcinoma with Bacillus Calmette Guerin may be elicited. (b) perineal pain, dysuria, urinary frequency, urinary urgency, retention of urine, recent prostate biopsy, visible haematuria, urethral discharge of pus, lower urinary tract obstructive symptoms with poor flow, intermittent flow, hesitancy, and sensation of incomplete emptying of the urinary bladder, retention of urine, and","PeriodicalId":72284,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medical case reports and case study","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46651742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vegetables studied (Apium graveolens - Celery, Hibiscus cannabinus - kenaf, Hibiscus sabdariffa - Sorrel or Roselle, Allium fistulosum - Spring Onions leaves and bulbs, Sesamum radiatum - Sesamum leaves) were obtained from major markets within Jos metropolis. They were washed, air-dried, homogenized, and stored in air-tight bottles. Their concentrations of heavy metals (Zn, Fe, Mn, As, Cd, Pb, Cr, and Cu), were determined using a graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer, and their health risks were evaluated through daily intake and hazard quotient. The vegetables analyzed gave different concentrations of heavy metals with their values falling within the FAO/WHO permissible limits. The highest concentration of Iron (0.515±0.003 mg/kg) and Cadmium (0.095±0.006 mg/kg) were found in Celery, while Kenaf had the highest copper (0.030±0.008 mg/kg) concentration. Zinc was higher in all the vegetables when compared to the other metals. The daily intake values of all the metals examined exceeded the maximum tolerable daily intake (MTDI) except for copper. Hazard quotient values of all the metals were less than 1 except As, Cd, and Zn which were found to be greater, thereby signifying health risk potentials of these metals. The study, therefore, revealed that consumption of these vegetables could constitute potential health hazards to the well-being of the consumers.","PeriodicalId":72284,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medical case reports and case study","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41502065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their localization in the female genital tract is quite rare, either as solitary plasmacytomas or as part of a disseminated MM. Solitary ovarian plasmocytoma is extremely rare. Case: A 52-year-old woman, presented presented postmenopausal recurring episodes of metrorrhagia with left ovarian mass. She was diagnosed with solitary ovarianplasmocytoma without systemicdisease. The patient underwent complete surgery resection and a full work up to rule out multiple myeloma that objectived a small serum monoclonal protein that had resolved postoperatively. At 17 months of follow-up, the patient is still alive and doing well with no signs of recurrence or progression to mutliple myeloma. Although rare, solitary plasmacytoma of the ovary can occur without any overt symptoms or laboratory abnormalities tests and require prompt and adequate treatment and rigorous monitoring due to their ability to relapse or progress to MM. Complete surgical resection followed by activesurveillance is appropriate.","PeriodicalId":72284,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medical case reports and case study","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48288093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is no established consensus yet on treatment modality. Case report: we report the case of a 44 years old patient with no history of vascular diseases or trauma who was admitted in our institution for a spontaneous dissection of the right external iliac artery. Conclusion: management of spontaneous iliac artery dissection is not well defined. In fact, patients could be safely managed with medical therapy in the absence of signs of complications. Endovascular and open repair are reserved for patients with complications like limb ischemia or imminent artery rupture.","PeriodicalId":72284,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medical case reports and case study","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42381079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are multiple common causes to include Graves’ disease, toxic multinodular goiter, and solitary toxic adenomas. Marine Lenhart Syndrome (MLS) is a rare cause of hyperthyroidism, caused by a coexistence of constitutively active thyroid nodules and Graves’ disease. In the original document of Marine and Lenhart, there is no distinction made between the autoimmune phenomenon of Graves’ disease and the solitary toxic nodule of Plummer’s disease. Rather they are both considered to be the manifestation of the same disease. However, in the current era of radionuclide technology, a clear distinction of MLS can be seen with diffuse uptake in the thyroid gland and focused enhancement in the toxic nodules. Therefore what was previously described as one entity is now distinct as Graves’ disease and Plummer’s disease. It is also becoming increasingly clear within the literature that there is also a new phenomenon of post-radioiodine immunogenic hyperthyroidism in patients with toxic nodules and elevated autoantibodies. Therefore in order to properly treat and manage patients, a new definition of MLS may need to be proposed.","PeriodicalId":72284,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medical case reports and case study","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47790087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research suggests SARS-CoV-2 infection can trigger an aberrant immune response in some individuals, causing inflammatory nerve damage leading to anosmia and neuropathy. We report here a 50-year-old female patient who presented to the outpatient clinic in Saint John Eye Hospital with a two months history of binocular, horizontal diplopia five days after recovery from SARS-CoV-2 infection, PCR positive test obtained by a nasopharyngeal swab on April 1st, 2021 with upper respiratory tract symptoms. The patient was diagnosed with bilateral abducens nerve palsy. The main cause was presumed to be post-viral as the patient had controlled diabetes “HBA1C: 7%” and had no pre-existing microvascular risk factors. Diplopia still exists after two months of bilateral abducens nerve palsy. Measurements confirmed bilateral limited abductions in both eyes with right or alternating convergent squint. This case report supports the hypothesis that direct or indirect virally mediated injuries along the routes of the cranial nerves can cause neuropathy and olfactory dysfunction. The longer latency effects of COVID-19 infection are not well understood. In teenagers and adults, they are predominately seen in patients with mental disturbances. Usually with acute presentation, they also can remain in place for a long time. The main clinical presentation is unilateral purulent rhinorrhea possibly associated, in chronic cases, to nasal deformities, nasomaxillary abnormalities or rhinolithes. The removal can require a surgical procedure under general anaesthesia specifically in front of neglected foreign bodies covered by mucosa or previous multiple failed attempts. We report the case of a 14-years-old girl, with mental retardation, who consulted in our structure for a swelling in the left nasal alar base evolving progressively since 4 months, with intermittent purulent rhinorrhea not improved after medical treatment. No incident of nasal foreign body insertion was reported or witnessed by the patient and its family. The facial CT scan confirmed the diagnosis and the removal required surgical procedure. The diagnosis of neglected nasal foreign body should always be considered in front of unilateral nasal obstruction and discharge specifically in children and mentally disabled patients. Its removal should be rapid in order to avoid the constitution of rhinolithes and nasal deformities.","PeriodicalId":72284,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medical case reports and case study","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43028588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The patients diagnosed with testicular cancer may experience psychological disturbances during its diagnosis and treatment process. The present study was examined the effects of perceived social support, psychological resilience and coping strategies on life satisfaction in men diagnosed with testicular cancer. This cross-sectional data was obtained from the participants through different scales. The statistical analysis was included descriptive analysis and multiple logistic regression model for the variables. A total of 174 patients, mean 36, range=20-60 years, were included in the study. Results showed that the variables of HADS depression, HADS anxiety, perceived social support, psychological resilience and coping strategies included in the multiple logistic regression analysis explained the change in life satisfaction variance by 42% (R2 =6.351; R2 =0.423) determined by p <0.005. The statistical significance was found for HADS depression score (t=-0.31; p=0.000), HADS anxiety (t=-1.07, p=0.002) and psychological resilience (t=-0.23, p=0.001) in terms of life satisfaction levels of patients treated with testicular cancer. There was no statistical significance found among other variables and life satisfaction levels of patients (p>0.005). Testicular cancer, which is common among men, causes negative consequences on the life of individuals. Social support of the patients both during the diagnosis period and during the treatment, it causes changes in life satisfaction and psychological resilience. Therefore, psychological problems such as a decrease in the coping strategies of the patients, depression or anxiety are beginning to be observed.","PeriodicalId":72284,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medical case reports and case study","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44894504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
