This study aimed to create a field guide for univalve mollusks on Ayoke Island in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur, Philippines. Sampling methods included opportunistic hand-picking and market sampling. Collected samples underwent preliminary identification on-site and were later confirmed in a biology laboratory at North Eastern University, using various resources and expert consultations. A total of 115 mollusk species from 57 genera, divided into 28 families, were identified. Notably, the Conidae family had the most species (20), followed by Cypraeidae (16) and Strombidae (10). The Conus genus within Conidae exhibited the highest diversity with 20 species. Of these species, 88 were uncommon, 26 rare, and only one, Monetaria moneta , fairly common. Ayoke Island demonstrated remarkable gastropod diversity, reflecting its rich marine life. The local community valued marine univalves for their ecosystem contributions. However, challenges in their management and preservation persisted due to non-compliance with regulations. Careful handling and harvesting, following guidelines, are essential for Ayoke Island's marine ecosystem's well-being.","PeriodicalId":7194,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Studies in Biology","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135212391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies show that the 6 coenopopulations studied in both districts are incomplete coenopopulations. Some physical and chemical properties (pH, EC and heavy metal content) were studied by taking soil samples from the rhizosphere of the plant. Soil pH indicators were determined in the range of 5.3-7.3, EC 143.8-718 μS cm-1 in Khizi and Gusar districts, respectively. After studying the amount of heavy metals (Cu, Co, Cd, Zn, Pb, Br) both in plant and soil samples, it was found that their amounts are relatively high in the soils of the Gusar region and, regardless of the distribution area, Cu is located in the aboveground organs of the plant, and Zn, Pb, Cd is more collected in tubers.","PeriodicalId":7194,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Studies in Biology","volume":"3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89738249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They usually contain phytochemicals which aid in developing innovative drugs that tackle the threat of resistant strains. This study investigated the ethanol extracts of four plant species commonly used in the northern part of Surigao del Sur, Philippines, for the treatment of various diseases through a qualitative phytochemical analysis. The investigation revealed the presence of Alkaloids and Steroid flavonoids in all four plant samples. The plant extracts of Chromolaena odorata, Celosia argentea, Cordia dichotoma, and Nepenthes bellii showed antibacterial activity to both Staphylococcus aureus (gram-positive) and Escherichia coli (gram-negative) bacteria, which were evident in the Zone of inhibition. The findings support using herbal plants in ethnomedicine to treat various infectious ailments.","PeriodicalId":7194,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Studies in Biology","volume":"104 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79532575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, early diagnosis can be managed the symptoms and mortality. The disease caused by a severe deficiency of the enzyme galactose-1-phosphate uridyl transferase. Mutations in this gene can cause a defect in this enzyme. Identification of these mutations can play an important role in early diagnosis and disease management. It is necessary to perform galactosemia screening despite difficulties and complexities. This study identified 5 different pathogenic mutations on the GALT gene in the Azerbaijanian population with galactosemia. The identification of the mutations involved in the development of CG in the Azerbaijanian population can play an essential role inearly diagnosis and intervention. The GALT gene mutations identified in this study can be used as screening markers to identify Azerbaijanian children with CG.","PeriodicalId":7194,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Studies in Biology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135105272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Europe, approximately 87.6 million tons of food are lost every year. The European Union has intervened on more than one occasion to try to put an end to this phenomenon. In particular, it recently issued the waste directive with which it invited Member States and their citizens to reduce the production of food waste between primary production and distribution; reduce food waste in families and encourage food donations; monitor and evaluate the implementation of the respective food waste prevention measures. The EU has given further impetus to the fight against food loss and waste with the presentation of the European Green New Deal. This also includes the new action plan for the circular economy, with which the European Union has provided for a system for the reuse of discarded agri-food products. In the Farm to Fork strategy, the EU is committed to reducing food waste per capita at retail and consumer levels by 50% by 2030 and to providing tools for the reuse of agri-food waste, again from an circular economic point of view. Italy intends to strengthen the strategic role of the agricultural, food and forestry sectors within the complex national economic system and in the European and international context, starting from the territories in which these activities are concentrated. It is therefore necessary that sustainability e inclusiveness become levers of competitiveness at sectoral and territorial level. To do this, it is necessary transform into value, in particular, the opportunities that can derive from the ecological transition, exploiting the bioeconomy, digitization, the circular economy, the reduction of food waste and agroecology. The objective of this work is to demonstrate how agri-food waste can become a resource and contribute to achieving the objectives set by the European Green New Deal. 92 Mario Peppe and Davide Peppe","PeriodicalId":7194,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Studies in Biology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88783352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the conducted experiments, it has been observed that nanoparticles have a stimulating effect on the samples of the maize plant cultivated under both control and drought conditions. Thus, in 15-day-old sprouts, compared to the control, in the sprouts developed from seeds treated with nanoparticles, the root has advanced by 27.8%, and stem 32.7%. In the samples cultivated under drought conditions, the sprouts developed from seeds treated with nanoparticles, the root has progressed by 21.5% and the stem by 25.9% compared to the other option (only drought). To create new salt-tolerant varieties of wheat and maize, a comparative analysis of the physiological and biochemical parameters of the parental and hybrid plants was carried out. Physiological parameters such as chlorophyll content and relative water content have been studied in parental forms and hybrids. When studying salt-tolerance of hybrids and parental forms, differences were detected in the relative amounts of chlorophyll (a+b), carotenoids and RWC.. The effect of salt on the amount of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and carotenoids, which are the main physiological indicators, is manifested in different ways in both hybrids and parental forms. Based on the physiological indices determined during the grain filling stage, the highest tolerance was manifested by the parental forms, Garabagh, Gobustan, and the hybrids, ♀Garabagh×♂Gobustan, ♀Garabagh×♂Mirbashir, ♀Garabagh×♂Sharg.
