The central research questions addressed include: (i) individual and interacting parameters influence tensile, flexural, impact and thermal properties (ii) how reinforcement type and morphology mediate process-structure-property relationships and (iii) what strategies can optimize these parameters for enhanced functional performance. The review synthesizes findings from recent literature to reveal that parameter optimization can significantly improve interlayer adhesion, reduce porosity and enhance crystallinity, thereby increasing strength, stiffness and thermal stability. Critical challenges are discussed, including anisotropy, void formation and limited reproducibility across build conditions. Finally, emerging research directions are outlined, including process optimization through data-driven and machine learning approaches, sustainable composite development and industrial scale-up through standardized process control. However, fabricating stress-free 2W SMPs with superior mechanical properties and high reversible actuation through a simple processing method remains a significant challenge. To address this issue, we propose a strategy that utilizes hydrogen bonds to construct the skeleton phase for the fabrication of stress-free 2W SMPs. By introducing N, N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) oxamide (BHO) chain extenders rich in amide groups, strong hydrogen bond interactions are formed in the microdomains. After programming, these temperature-sensitive hydrogen bonds generate internal stress. This stress drives crystallization-induced elongation of the semi-crystalline polymer and enables reversible actuation without the need for external stress. The resulting materials exhibit both high reversible strain (22.6 %) and excellent mechanical properties (tensile strength of 45.78 MPa and fracture strain of 1992.52 %). Furthermore, the dynamic tunability of hydrogen bonds imparts the polymer network with outstanding two-way shape memory programmability. After erasing the original programmed state at high temperature and then reprogramming it, the material can be endowed with different reversible strain behaviors, thereby allowing reuse in various application scenarios. This strategy provides an effective approach for the fabrication of high-performance stress-free 2W SMPs, which is expected to advance the development of intelligent actuation materials.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":7186,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Industrial and Engineering Polymer Research","volume":"9 2","pages":"Pages 316-326"},"PeriodicalIF":12.0,"publicationDate":"2026-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147584445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They may also exhibit antimicrobial activity mediated by reversible physical and/or chemical interactions, potentially enabling partial or autonomous self-repair following mechanical or chemical damage. In parallel with the growing demand for sustainable and adaptive materials, carbohydrate polymers have been recognized not merely for biomedical applications but also for environmental remediation, soft electronics, and active packaging. Despire substantial progress, the field remains partially fragmented. In this review, we systematically examine recent developments in extrinsic self-healing strategies (<em>e.g</em>., microcapsules and vascular networks) as well as intrinsic mechanisms, including hydrogen bonding; ionic and metal–ligand interactions, and host–guest recognition; π–π stacking; hydrophobic associations; and dynamic covalent chemistries such as Schiff-base formation, disulfide exchange, and borate ester linkage. We further analyze how polymer blending, copolymerization, and chemical or enzymatic modifications modulate healing kinetics, mechanical recovery, and responsiveness to external stimuli. Applications such as wound dressings, drug delivery systems, water purification membranes, and edible films are highlighted, alongside persistent challenges in scalability, long-term performance, and mechanical robustness. Looking ahead, the future of self-healing carbohydrate polymers depends on the degree to which the molecular-level design integrates with real-world functionality, also developing standardized evaluation methods, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Addressing these aspects may accelerate translation from laboratory-scale outcomes to practical, large-scale applications, ultimately establishing these polymers as cornerstones of sustainable and intelligent material technologies.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":7186,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Industrial and Engineering Polymer Research","volume":"9 2","pages":"Pages 208-237"},"PeriodicalIF":12.0,"publicationDate":"2026-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147584503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Representative applications include non-stick cookware coatings, water-repellent textile agents, industrial lubricants, and high-temperature sealing materials. Despite their functional advantages, the extreme environmental persistence of PFAS has raised growing concerns regarding their adverse impacts on ecosystems and human health. Owing to strong C–F bonds, PFAS exhibit extreme resistance to degradation, environmental persistence, and bio accumulative potential, leading to widespread ecological consequences. Human exposure to PFAS is associated with multiple health risks, including immunosuppression, endocrine disruption, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, and increased cancer risk, primarily through the ingestion of contaminated water and food. Current removal strategies mainly include adsorption, chemical degradation, membrane separation, and microbial degradation. However, these approaches often face significant challenges under real-world environmental conditions due to the complexity of environmental matrices. Natural aquatic systems typically contain a variety of coexisting constituents, such as inorganic salts, heavy metals, and natural organic matter, which compete for adsorption sites or interfere with degradation pathways, thereby reducing PFAS removal efficiency. Although numerous laboratory-scale studies have demonstrated high removal efficiencies, their applicability to complex environmental settings remains uncertain. Hence, tailoring PFAS removal strategies to specific environmental contexts is imperative. In situ evaluation of both removal mechanisms and environmental variables will be critical for identifying optimal remediation pathways. This review comprehensively examines the major sources, environmental distribution, and potential risks of PFAS. It focuses on comparative analysis of removal technologies and underlying mechanisms under various environmental conditions, with particular emphasis on the impact of environmental factors on PFAS removal efficiency. Furthermore, the review explores strategies to leverage these environmental variables to optimize remediation processes, thereby achieving more efficient and sustainable PFAS remediation.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":7186,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Industrial and Engineering Polymer Research","volume":"9 2","pages":"Pages 245-280"},"PeriodicalIF":12.0,"publicationDate":"2026-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147584504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current identification methods, such as SPI resin codes, labels, and visible/near-infrared/Fourier Transform infrared (VIS/NIR/FTIR) sorting, often fail for dark or filled plastics, multilayer materials, and contaminated packaging. We introduce a printable, chipless radio frequency identification (RFID) tag based on high-conductivity MXene traces protected by an ultrathin polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film. The tag provides robust, remote identification, yet detaches/disperses in the standard alkaline, elevated-temperature wash already used in recycling processing, preventing contaminant carryover. We engineer resonant geometries for RFID readability, quantify oxidation-limited drift, and show that an ultrathin PVA film slows oxygen ingress to preserve conductivity and read range over storage and use. In simulated wash lines (1–2% NaOH, 60–85 °C), both MXene and PVA dissolve rapidly, yielding effective removal and negligible residue on flakes.
