Although it is not a test routinely used in practice, it can be included in diagnosis and treatment algorithm of pneumonia in children. Studies have shown the effectiveness of procalcitonin in determining of duration of antibiotherapy and hospitalization, too. The test is superior to the other laboratory parameters, compared to reactive C protein, inclusively. Depending on the result of the pulmonary x-ray (bacterial pneumonia) admitted patients were included in: study group – patients with increased values of procalcitonin, and control group – patients with normal values ones. The study proposed a comparative analysis; the correlation index was used to demonstrate how laboratory parameters can interact, and the evolutionary trend of studied parameters was analysed. The results are consistent with the literature data, validating the superiority of procalcitonin in establishing the etiologic diagnosis and the treatment evaluation in bacterial pneumonia in children.","PeriodicalId":7091,"journal":{"name":"Acta Medica Transilvanica","volume":"26 1","pages":"20 - 22"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44996598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite their effects, long-term therapy exposes patients to multiple side effects, such as weight gain, high blood pressure, adrenal insufficiency, osteoporosis and a high risk of infections. We present the case of a 61-year-old female with osteoporosis secondary to glucocorticoid therapy, adrenal insufficiency, new-onset diabetes mellitus and mixed dyslipidemia, manifestations that occurred as a result of self-administration of Medrol for one year. The patient presented to the hospital for thoracic back pain, being sent to the endocrinologist due to radiological changes suggestive of vertebral compressions.","PeriodicalId":7091,"journal":{"name":"Acta Medica Transilvanica","volume":"26 1","pages":"23 - 25"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48094210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This cross-sectional analytic study was carried out in a total of 21 health institutions including 17 primary health care and 4 secondary health care institutions in a city center. 428 midwives were included in the study. To determine the job satisfaction of midwives, the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) was used. According to the scores obtained from MSQ, quartiles in ¼ were created. In statistical analysis, the difference between the mean scores among groups was analysed with independent samples t-test. P values less than 0.05 were considered significant. The results demonstrated that the majority of midwives had a moderate level of job satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":7091,"journal":{"name":"Acta Medica Transilvanica","volume":"26 1","pages":"11 - 13"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45185555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A good communication between the two parties is very important because, in most cases, dental technicians are located remotely and often do not see the patient. Functional analysis is an important requirement for diagnosing many different syndromes, which are usually associated with incorrect loading of the temporomandibular joint or dysfunctions. Fixed prosthesis focused on permanently attached (fixed) dentures. Such dental restorations, also called indirect restorations, include crowns, bridges (fixed prostheses), inlays, onlays and veneers. Fixed prosthesis can be used to restore one or more individual teeth, covering areas where the teeth have been lost. In general, the main advantages of fixed prosthetics compared to direct restorations are the superior strength when used in large restorations and the ability to build a tooth that has also a good aesthetic shape. As with any dental restoration, the principles used to determine Proper restoration involves taking into account the materials to be used, the extent of the tooth damage, the orientation and location of the teeth and the condition of the adjacent teeth.","PeriodicalId":7091,"journal":{"name":"Acta Medica Transilvanica","volume":" ","pages":"67 - 69"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46531760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analysed the options of 3424 students from three cohorts the biggest public medical university of Romania. We found that most of the medical student are very career oriented, with low interest in having a family or children during their student life, most are income-dependent by others, and driven by passion/interest in choosing their future specialty, but with low interest for family medicine. Our data could be relevant for the policy makers for tailoring the long-term human resources polices adapted to the students’ values, with the aim to assure an equitable coverage with medical services all over the country.","PeriodicalId":7091,"journal":{"name":"Acta Medica Transilvanica","volume":"26 1","pages":"1 - 4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47605685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The advantages of trans-radial over traditional femoral access include a decrease in the incidence of access site bleeding complications and improved patient comfort and recovery. Ensuring short haemostasis, which controls arterial bleeding after transracial interventions, but at the same time maintains radial arterial flow, appears to be the most important factor in reducing peri-procedural complications, especially radial artery occlusion (RAO). We evaluated the technical feasibility of our gradual deflation haemostasis method in a population of patients treated by both conventional and distal trans-radial approach, within 1 month period. A feasibility assessment was performed for 101 patients to assess whether our hemostasis technique could be performed safely. We concluded that our technique is feasible after trans-radial approach, in both categories of access, conventional or distal. The rate of peri-procedural complications was low and related to the type of approach used, with more positive results on the distal trans-radial approach.","PeriodicalId":7091,"journal":{"name":"Acta Medica Transilvanica","volume":"26 1","pages":"30 - 32"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47922996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of the method in a sample of Romanian children. The study was conducted on X-rays of 126 children with ages ranging from 5 to 15 years old. Dental age was determined and t-tests were used to assess the difference between dental age and chronological age within each age category. The boys in our study have advanced dental age in all age groups, while the girls have only in the age categories 7 to 8 years, 9 to 10 years and 11 to 12 years. The results of our study show that the method is appropriate for Romanian children and that these standards are applicable only in certain age groups. Further research is required on a larger sample.","PeriodicalId":7091,"journal":{"name":"Acta Medica Transilvanica","volume":" ","pages":"48 - 51"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43594405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the etiopathogenesis of colorectal cancer, genetic and environmental factors play an important role. In recent years, there has been a decrease in the incidence of new cases and mortality among patients over the age of 50. This can be explained by the application of modern multimodal treatment methods as well as by increasing the use of screening methods. Particular attention should be paid to inherited syndromes such as Lynch syndrome and Familial Adenomatous Polyposis, which together account for 5% of all colorectal cancers. It was found that an accumulation of genetic mutations over a period of 10 to 15 years, leads to changes in the normal colonic epithelium, with the eventual appearance of invasive carcinoma.(1,2)","PeriodicalId":7091,"journal":{"name":"Acta Medica Transilvanica","volume":" ","pages":"45 - 47"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45210541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
