The present study describes the case of a five-year-old Pura Raza Española mare diagnosed with bilateral laminitis at approximately three months of age. The animal refused to walk, lying down all the time. The degree of claudication, according to the Obel scale, was graded as 5; she also had an altered palmar digital pulse. He was prescribed 30 days of anti-inflammatory therapy with 1.1mg/kg intravenous (IV) of meglumine flunixin every 24 h, accompanied by omeprazole 2 mg/kg orally (O.V.). Additionally, hoof trimming and corrective shoeing were recommended. After eight months of treatment, the mare showed a remarkable improvement and gain in body condition, and a gestation was achieved. The anti-inflammatory treatment, hoof trimming and corrective shoeing favored the growth and hardness of the hoof, being successful in the treatment of laminitis.","PeriodicalId":7052,"journal":{"name":"Abanico Veterinario","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68400763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study was to determine whether climatic, regional and brood quantity influences are related to hygienic behavior in beehives in Jalisco state, Mexico. Freezing pupae with liquid nitrogen in two climatic zones (mountain and valley) evaluated 142 colonies. Colonies located in the municipalities of the low zone removed significantly more frozen brood than the colonies located in the municipalities of the higher zone (p <0.001), and these differences were significantly correlated with environmental temperature (r = 0.25, p <0.01) and altitude above sea level (r = 0.27, p <0.001). It was also found that in the warmer, lower altitude region, one third of the colonies were highly hygienic (> 80 %). This degree of cleanliness is acceptable for initiating selective breeding projects for highly hygienic bees to improve colony health, which would benefit the beekeeping industry.","PeriodicalId":7052,"journal":{"name":"Abanico Veterinario","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68400256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the necropsy, mucoid degeneration of coronary fat, pleural adhesions, hypostatic congestion, hemoperitoneum, reticulum, rumen, omasum, and abomasum distention were found. The most significant finding was the whitish, hard-to-touch appearance of the right atrium. The atrial sample was decalcified for sectioning and histopathology study. The histology of the section performed revealed: extensive areas of cartilaginous metaplasia, swelling, and undulation of cardiac muscle fibers, fatty infiltration between cardiac fibers, as well as figures compatible with Sarcocystis . The clinical chemistry indicated hyperphosphatemia and hypermagnesemia. According to the process for the sheep diagnostic evaluation, cartilaginous metaplasia of the right atrium, associated with the ingestion of Trisetum flavescens was found. In the different animal species, the probability of progressive poisoning from the consumption of toxic plants is a risk that can occur in any animal production system. This study describes the clinical case of a sheep that, according to background and data provided by the owner, had been ingesting Trisetum flavescens and showed clinical signs of decay, among others; the most evident lesions in the macro and microscopic study were associated with cartilaginous metaplasia of the right atrium, a condition that highlights the risk of consuming plants, which may contain a variety of substances that can affect and deteriorate the health of different herbivorous domestic species.","PeriodicalId":7052,"journal":{"name":"Abanico Veterinario","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68400357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is generally asymptomatic, which makes this disease of little interest in equines in comparison with other domestic and wild species. At present, the real epidemiological situation of leptospirosis in equines is unknown; just as the disease develops in these animals. A search of scientific literature was carried out; with the objective of knowing which are the serovars of genus leptospira reported in equines from 2010 to 2020. In the literature review, 21 articles were selected, in which it was identified that Leptospira Bratislava, is the most frequently reported (11.43%, IC95%: 6-19.1%) is in contact with equines, followed by Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae (9.52%, IC95%: 4.6-16.8%).","PeriodicalId":7052,"journal":{"name":"Abanico Veterinario","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68400438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This alteration can present in mild, moderate and severe forms. Treatment of the mild and moderate condition can be by pharmacological therapy and physiotherapy; however, severe cases become complex due to secondary lesions in the calves and difficulty in feeding, requiring, in most cases, surgical intervention. The objective of the present report is to describe the case of a calf with severe contracture of the forelimb flexor tendons and its surgical correction by tenotomy of the forelimb tendons. The surgery was successfully performed and short times of total recovery are reported by means of a postsurgical protocol described in detail in the present document.","PeriodicalId":7052,"journal":{"name":"Abanico Veterinario","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68400197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, as a zoonosis, it can cause miscarriages or pneumonia in people who come in contact with sick animals or their secretions. The objective of this study was to isolate C. abortus from Mexican goats with a history of abortion and from recently parturient goats with a history of abortion; 186 samples were collected from 49 herds in Coahuila, Jalisco, Puebla, Veracruz and Querétaro states. Bacterial isolation of the clinical samples was performed using the mouse fibroblast cell line L929 and molecular identification was achieved by amplification of a 342 bp fragment corresponding to the 16S-23S ribosomal intergenic spacer RNA region. The amplification products were sequenced and compared with the GenBank database. Isolation identified 23.1% of the samples and PCR identified 9.6% as positive.
