An angular-position transducer is used to indicate the number of turns of a drum as a plumb line wound on the drum is unwound until a weight (for solids) or a float (for fluids) touches the surface. When this occurs the plumb line loses tension, a tension sensor (force transducer) detects the loss in tension and sends a signal to a direction-changing device, that controls a drum drive motor. Operating variables play a major role in determining accuracy and repeatability requirements. The paper presents a dynamic analysis and identification of the sensor system to increase static and dynamic accuracy.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"21 1","pages":"1406-1411 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73138852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main problem in dealing with noise-added systems is the identification of the relationship between the optimal level of noise to be forced into the system and the system parameters. In previous work the authors suggested both analytical and experimental solutions to the problem of optimal noise level tuning in stochastic systems. In particular an experimental device allowing optimal system performance has been tested. In this paper a different working condition is investigated and a new nonlinear form of the noise tuning law is proposed.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"67 1","pages":"879-882 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73412498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method is based on the pulse shaping of the DAC output signal taking into account the loop delay and rise time. It is only based on discrete time analysis. It will be shown that high values of the loop delay together with high filter gain margin can be reached. The gain margin sensitivity to the real loop delay variation can also be improved if a return-to-zero DAC (RZDAC) is used.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"30 1","pages":"716-719 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73076142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Response time, defined as the time elapsed from the moment of occurrence of an event in the controlled environment until a reaction of the program to the event, is a crucial parameter which is related with the safe operation of the environment. The proposed measurement technique is based on the use of a hardware-in-the-loop simulation of the controlled environment and the development of two hybrid probes, that are embedded in the multi-tasking system. These probes capture and timestamp the start time and completion time of the sequences of tasks triggered by events generated by the environment. Collected event data and traces are processed and visualized by the use of typical graphics and visualization tools.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"1 1","pages":"1485-1490 vol.3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77013754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An attempt is made here to rationalize the conception of an indirect estimation process of a quantity of interest from observed data. Special attention is given to measurements in the context of complex physical systems for which the usual model-based approach seems unmanageable. For such cases, an automated parametric method is proposed. Our particular application and the results obtained are given as an illustration of these general developments.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"24 1","pages":"772-777 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74562792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
