The first part is the description of different noise sources for interferometric side-scan sonar. In fact, these noise sources can generally be classified into two categories: a. environmental noise category (variable celerity, sonar motion, etc.), and, b. interferometric process related noise (decorrelation baseline, decorrelation of wave train, propagation, multipath propagation). Each source of noise is described as a physical phenomena. This study aims at developing a global density of probability function (dpf) including all statistical phenomena corresponding to the 'b' category of noise (interferometric process). The second part checks the statistical properties of phase on real data and uses them as a confidence factor in the 2/spl pi/ bias removal process. The third part deals with the global process using the vernier technique to derive benefit from the interferometric multi arrays and the theoretical properties (vernier efficiency) connected to the specific configuration of the sonar. The main conclusion of this paper concerns the theoretical interest of the global comprehension of the vernier technique (statistical properties checked on experimental data and intrinsic properties of the vernier) to plan strategies to remove the 2/spl pi/ bias and gain of treatment on real data. Based on these results different applications are possible such as the incorporation of noise in simulation process; this allows data collection in more complex virtual experimental scene than in a real scene for example.","PeriodicalId":68534,"journal":{"name":"中国会展","volume":"48 1","pages":"2059-2065 vol.3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86080367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective is to supplement extensive undersea range and signal processing hardware with state of the art passive marine mammal detection, localization and tracking algorithms. This system will provide the opportunity to determine the number of acoustically active species within an instrumented, open ocean area and to evaluate baseline behavior. The initial system will be demonstrated at the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC), Andros Island, Bahamas. Many of the existing assets at AUTEC will be leveraged, including the data collected by the ongoing marine mammal monitoring program. Undersea range coverage at AUTEC includes a steep island slope feature that may serve as a feeding habitat for several cetaceans including the sperm whale (Physter macrocephalus), short-finned pilot whale (Globicephala macrorhynchus), minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata), and several species of dolphins. The development of a database of marine mammal recordings at AUTEC is currently underway using five-minute recordings taken once every half hour. The M/sup 3/R program is increasing the rate of acoustic data collection at AUTEC and evaluating the ability to passively track the location of various species based on features of the transient acoustic marine mammal calls. Acoustic characteristics of species recorded at the AUTEC as well as developmental marine mammal monitoring algorithms are presented.","PeriodicalId":68534,"journal":{"name":"中国会展","volume":"79 1","pages":"1749-1752 vol.3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90923528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

REMUS (Remote Environmental Monitoring UnitS), developed by the Oceanographic Systems Laboratory at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, is one of the most widely used autonomous underwater vehicles in the world. Each year REMUS vehicles participate in numerous field exercises in support of scientific and navy research objectives. Designed for coastal operations, REMUS is normally deployed with a CTD, light scattering sensor, side scan sonar and an up-and-down looking acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP). Additional sensors are easily integrated in the vehicle and a bioluminescence instrument and a turbulence sensor package. Recent development efforts have improved the REMUS vehicle overall design and performance, and include integration of two new sensors. Vehicle improvements include lower drag, a new propulsion, new lithium-ion batteries and a new external interface. Maximum speed has been increased from 1.75 m/s to almost 3 m/s (6 knots) and mission length has increased to 22 hours at the 1.5 m/s (3 knots) cruising speed. REMUS has been used to demonstrate a new autonomous underwater vehicle application: plume mapping. A rhodamine fluorometer was installed to map a plume on a steep sloping sea floor. Results from the field test demonstrate the effectiveness of an AUV as a tool in this task. A second REMUS vehicle has been deployed with an optical sensor package. The instruments in the package include a chlorophyll fluorometer and up-and-down looking, seven channel radiometers. This package combined with the standard CTD and ADCP generates a significant scientific data set, which supports both physical and biological oceanographic research.","PeriodicalId":68534,"journal":{"name":"中国会展","volume":"487 1","pages":"147-151 vol.1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73125478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike in the majority of spread-spectrum radio systems, intersymbol interference cannot be neglected, and time variability of the channel requires that receiver adaptation be performed at the chip, rather than the bit rate. Adaptive decision-feedback equalization, which has successfully been used for single-user underwater communications, is not directly applicable to spread-spectrum signals because of the delay in the despreading process and the lack of reliable chip decisions. To overcome this problem, a receiver is proposed which feeds back hypothesized, rather than the actual decisions. Numerical examples demonstrate the receiver's ability to cope with time varying channel distortions and preserve the processing gain when conventional, symbol-rate adaptive methods fail.","PeriodicalId":68534,"journal":{"name":"中国会展","volume":"45 1","pages":"123-129 vol.1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74352248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Bonded flexible pipe","authors":"V. Bonded pipe is a flexible pipe where the steel reinforcement is integrated and bonded to a vulcanized elastomeric material. Textile material is included in the structure to obtain additional structural reinforcement or to separate elastomeric layers. The applications addressed by this paper are sweet service production, including well stream product and stabilized crude export. Production products include gas, water and injection chemicals. The bonded flexible pipe is used as static flowline and dynamic risers and loading and discharge marine hose. A new application for bonded flexible pipe that did not require much in the way of new technological development is offshore mobile production systems. Until 1989 there had been very little new development in bonded flexible pipe but with the introduction of offshore mobile production systems (MOPS) this changed. The mobile offshore production systems considered is the MOPS used on the Gombe Beta Field, Gabon, West Africa and the MOPS used on the Tchatamba Field, also offshore Gabon, West Africa. The MOPS is accepted in the oil industry as a means to collect reservoir data through extended well tests, to provide early cash flow from major fields and to produce marginal fields. The author focuses on bonded flexible risers, bonded flexible pipelines and bonded floating export hose that comprise the three critical bonded flexible pipe applications. All three are used to convey crude between the production unit, storage tanker and export tanker.","PeriodicalId":68534,"journal":{"name":"中国会展","volume":"354 1","pages":"1407-1412 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77834434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The reasons given are: (1) There is not enough temporal coherence in the signal to allow the full spatial aperture to be realized, (2) It is simply a scheme to convert temporal gain to spatial gain, so there is no new gain achieved. (3) The source frequency must be known a priori to compute the phase correction factor, otherwise the unknown Doppler will introduce an unacceptable bias in any bearing estimation problem. This paper shows that all of these objections assume signal models that do not faithfully embody the physics of the situation, and thereby basically doom the processor to failure. It is shown that by using more than one hydrophone the source frequency can be estimated simultaneously with the bearing, that by including the forward motion of the array in the signal model the bearing information intrinsic to the Doppler can be utilized, and that by applying a recursive (Kalman based) algorithm the errors due to changes in temporal coherence can be eliminated. Results using real data are presented that demonstrate the improvement over the conventional beamformer.","PeriodicalId":68534,"journal":{"name":"中国会展","volume":"27 1","pages":"7-9 vol.1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75880725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many other physics-based and phenomenological statistical models have been proposed to represent such observed reverberation, a few of which have natural target models. One that has shown promise in having a minimal parameterization yet a broad enough scope to adequately represent a wide variety of observed non-Rayleigh reverberation is McDaniel's (1990) model. In this paper a statistical model is developed for a non-fluctuating target in McDaniel's reverberation exploiting the non-central gamma distribution. The probability density function and cumulative distribution function are derived and used to determine likelihood ratio and locally optimal detector non-linearities and also theoretical receiver operating characteristic curves.","PeriodicalId":68534,"journal":{"name":"中国会展","volume":"9 1","pages":"1047-1051 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79974245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim is to obtain high-resolution relief maps of the free-surface topography, in order to highlight the regular spatial patterns associated with the bedforms. Two measurement principles are outlined and tested, both based on the imaging of floating tracers dispersed on the rapidly flowing surface. The first relies on direct stereoscopic measurements obtained using two cameras, while the second exploits an original velocimetric principle allowing to derive elevation from the velocity field acquired using a single camera. The measurement procedures and image analysis algorithms are introduced for the two methods, along with the physical assumptions underlying the velocimetric principle. The results of the two techniques are compared for different free-surface patterns and good correspondence is obtained. The obtained relief maps vividly depict the variety of motifs that can evolve as a result of interaction between shallow flows and loose sediment beds.","PeriodicalId":68534,"journal":{"name":"中国会展","volume":"26 1","pages":"1535-1542 vol.3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75720544","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
