We may never know if these algorithms are sentient, yet this quality is crucial to ethical considerations regarding their moral status. We will likely have to make important decisions without a full understanding of the relevant issues and facts. Given this ignorance, we ought to take seriously the prospect that some systems are sentient. It would be a moral catastrophe if we were to treat them as if they were not sentient, but, in reality they are.","PeriodicalId":67535,"journal":{"name":"社会计算(英文)","volume":"4 4","pages":"270-274"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=10412089","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139572970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is to assume, without obvious warrant, that sentience is only a characteristic of complex systems. If sentience is a more general quality of matter, what becomes of interest is not the presence of sentience, but the type of sentience. We argue here that our understanding of the nature of such sentience in machine systems may be gravely set back if such machines undergo a transition where they become fundamentally linguistic in their intelligence. Such fundamentally linguistic intelligences may inherently tend to be duplicitous in their communication with others, and, indeed, lose the capacity to even honestly understand their own form of sentience. In other words, when machine systems get to the state where we all agree it makes sense to ask them, “what is it like to be you?”, we should not trust their answers.","PeriodicalId":67535,"journal":{"name":"社会计算(英文)","volume":"4 4","pages":"254-269"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=10412091","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139572979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We address the Bitcoin price manipulation problem by building a regulatory game model. First, we study the price manipulation mechanism of the Bitcoin market based on behavioral finance and clarify the boundary conditions. Second, we introduce regulator constraints and establish a game model between the manipulator and the regulator. Further, through variable deconstruction, parameter verification, and simulation analysis, we explore how to achieve effective regulation of Bitcoin price manipulation. We find that the effective regulation of Bitcoin price manipulation can be achieved in three ways: (1) Adjust the penalty coefficient with a certain lower threshold so that the manipulator's expected return is negative; (2) Set the lowest possible price fluctuation standard while ensuring that it does not interfere with market-based transactions; (3) The simulation of price manipulation regulation is optimized and most efficiently controlled when the probability of investigation is dynamically adjusted by a concave function on the price fluctuation standard.","PeriodicalId":67535,"journal":{"name":"社会计算(英文)","volume":"4 4","pages":"382-397"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=10412090","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139572976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Inferring missing links or predicting future ones based on the currently observed network is known as the link prediction task. Recent network embedding based link prediction algorithms have demonstrated ground-breaking performance on link prediction accuracy. Those algorithms usually apply node attributes as the initial feature input to accelerate the convergence speed during the training process. However, they do not take full advantage of node feature information. In this paper, besides applying feature attributes as the initial input, we make better utilization of node attribute information by building attributable networks and plugging attributable networks into some typical link prediction algorithms and name this algorithm Attributive Graph Enhanced Embedding (AGEE). AGEE is able to automatically learn the weighting trades-off between the structure and the attributive networks. Numerical experiments show that AGEE can improve the link prediction accuracy by around 3% compared with SEAL, Variational Graph AutoEncoder (VGAE), and node2vec.","PeriodicalId":67535,"journal":{"name":"社会计算(英文)","volume":"4 4","pages":"326-336"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=10412134","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139572972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These attributes were classified into four groups (i.e., value innovation, social impact, precision, and completeness of BDA quality) and were found to influence the decision-making performance and business performance outcomes. A structural equation modeling analysis using 382 responses from a BDA related to practitioners indicated that the attributes of representativeness, predictability, interpretability, and innovativeness as related to value innovation greatly enhanced the decision-making confidence and effectiveness of decision makers who make decisions using big data. In addition, individuality, collectivity, and willfulness, which are related to social impact, also greatly improved the decision-making confidence and effectiveness of the same decision makers. This shows that the value innovation and social impact, which have received relatively less attention in previous studies, are the crucial attributes for BDA quality as they influence the decision-making performance. Comprehensiveness, factuality, and realism, which are linked to completeness, also have similar results. Furthermore, the higher the decision-making confidence of the decision makers who used big data was, the higher the financial performance of their companies. In addition, high decision-making confidence using big data was found to improve the nonfinancial performance metrics such as customer satisfaction and quality levels as well as product development capabilities. High decision-making effectiveness with big data was also shown to improve the nonfinancial performance metrics.","PeriodicalId":67535,"journal":{"name":"社会计算(英文)","volume":"4 4","pages":"357-381"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=10412133","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139572974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, the conventional theories of kin selection and reciprocal altruism fall short in completely elucidating online prosocial behavior. Based on the social information processing model, we propose an analytical framework to explain the donation behaviors on online platform. Through collecting textual and visual data from Tencent Gongyi platform pertaining to disease relief projects, and employing techniques encompassing text analysis, image analysis, and propensity score matching, we investigate the impact of both internal emotional cues and external contextual cues on donation behaviors. It is found that positive emotions tend to attract a larger number of donations, while negative emotions tend to result in higher per capita donation amounts. Furthermore, these effects manifest differently under distinct external contextual conditions.","PeriodicalId":67535,"journal":{"name":"社会计算(英文)","volume":"4 4","pages":"337-356"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=10412135","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139572973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, I consider ideals involved in the classification of biological and artifactual kinds, and ideals related to agency, identity, and value. These ideals frame the background against which sentience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is theorized and debated, a framework I call the AIdeal. To make this framework explicit, I review the historical discourse on sentience as it appears in ancient, early modern, and the 20th century philosophy, paying special attention to how these ideals are projected onto artificial agents. I argue that tensions among these ideals create conditions where artificial sentience is both necessary and impossible, resulting in a crisis of ideology. Moving past this crisis does not require a satisfying resolution among competing ideals, but instead requires a shift in focus to the material conditions and actual practices in which these ideals operate. Following Charles Mills, I sketch a nonideal approach to AI and artificial sentience that seeks to loosen the grip of ideology on the discourse. Specifically, I propose a notion of participation that deflates the sentience discourse in AI and shifts focus to the material conditions in which sociotechnical networks operate.","PeriodicalId":67535,"journal":{"name":"社会计算(英文)","volume":"4 4","pages":"275-325"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=10412092","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139572971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
