We have been developing a FOD detection system based on an optically-connected 96 GHz distributed-type millimeter-wave radar. In this paper, the reflection angle dependency of 11 typical pieces of FOD on an airport runway are measured using a prototype millimeter-wave radar system located in the actual airport. The measured FOD includes a metallic cylinder, a plastic ball, a wrench, a bolt, and a metallic strip. Then, the detection probabilities of the FOD are evaluated based on the measurement results. The detection probabilities of all pieces of FOD are 100% at a distance of 250 m. The absorber was made of one-dimensional all-dielectric gratings. The proposed absorber can achieve four-band and tri-band absorption with different grating depth. All the peak absorbance is higher than 90% at the resonance frequencies with the higher quality factor (Q) can reach to 12.6. Otherwise, the absorber selective absorption can be achieved by adjusting the incident pump beam. The demonstrated tunability may find potential applications in dynamic functional THz devices. A HFS without dielectric attenuators was machined by nano-CNC machining. The vector network analyzer measured results showed that the transmission coefficient $S_{21}$ and port reflection $S_{11}$ were better than −8.0 dB and −15.0 dB in the bandwidth of ∼47.2 GHz (241.4-288.6 GHz), respectively. A strong confinement of the terahertz field to a cavity mode enables a coupling strength to sense fields as low as 20 V/m. Assessing the ‘dryness' of nail varnish through the measurement of transmitted terahertz radiation, as opposed to qualitative, and typically touch-based techniques, takes into account the non-uniform drying of the nail varnish as a function of its depth. Their huge frequency tunability observable by the application of an applied voltage of as small as $0 < V_{mathrm{d}mathrm{c}}(mathrm{V}) < 1.5$ covers the entire THz gap. Here, we report on a novel approach towards engineering the THz waves in such devices, with pentagonal cavities, by performing the numerical simulations/analytical calculations of the cavity resonances. We investigate the radiation of the intense and coherent THz waves in pentagonal emitters by keeping the bias feed point in the middle and changing the device geometry. We present a metasurface collimator that enhances the directivity of a terahertz CW source as a first application based on our original reflectionless metasurface with a high refractive index. Measurements confirm the directivity enhancement of 2.3 times at the far field with a resonant-tunneling diode oscillating at 0.312 THz.
