The key enabling element is a source array system-on-a-chip (SoC) consisting of 8 × 8 unlocked source pixels. Together, they radiate maximum 10.8 mW of power at 0.42 THz. The SoC includes programmable logic to project structured, reconfigurable THz light that can be multiplexed in space and modulation frequency. We have synthesized single crystals of CS2AgBiBr6 from solution using a controlled cooling method. The THz vibrational modes near band gap resonance were investigated by temperature dependent Raman scattering, supplemented by optical transmission measurements of the band gap itself. They are expected to satisfy many commercial and scientific applications with substantial cost reduction. They provide 30x signal gain compared with previous Schottky mixer planar antenna front-end approaches by employing a pre-LNA on the receiver chip. The typical noise temperature is suppressed below 4,000 Kelvin. This skin is due to the simultaneous presence of calcite and NaCl in the clay, leading to depletion of red iron oxides near the surface.
