The DAB converter finds application in smart dc power systems, including the electrification of the powertrain of vehicles and vehicles-togrid applications, where loss minimization is crucial. In this paper, favorable modulation parameters are found first, by aiming at minimum rms currents and zero voltage switching (ZVS) for the converter switches. Then, on the basis of the closed-form analytical description of the converter behavior over the determined favorable modulation patterns, efficiency improvement trajectories in the modulation planes are identified. It is shown that such trajectories lead to optimal efficiency operation, which can be exploited to implement fast closedloop efficiency optimization methods. The reported results are verified experimentally on a 1.5 kW prototype, showing that the proposed approach allows to achieve the best-efficiency operation of the converter.","PeriodicalId":6689,"journal":{"name":"2020 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"58 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80268259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As well known, the interface between the power grid and this kind of energy resource is achieved by power converters, with a consequent dynamic behavior quite different from the synchronous generators. This matter involves negative impacts on the operating conditions of power systems. In this context, it is crucial to individuate estimation techniques able to predict promptly critical conditions which could, in extreme cases, compromise the stability of whole system. In this paper the authors employ an auto-regressive model which can describe the dynamic evolution of the power system inertia. The core of the procedure relies on an inertia model conceived as the sum of a periodic component and a noise stochastic process distributed according a Logistic model. The robustness of a novel estimation procedure, able to capture the dynamic evolution of the inertia, is investigated by testing two scenarios of Italian Transmission Network. The assumptions in terms of the obtained numerical results show the validity of the estimation technique and of the probabilistic characterization of the noise.","PeriodicalId":6689,"journal":{"name":"2020 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82948179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, MVDC converters can easily interface renewable generators (e.g. photovoltaic farms) with AC, handling at the same time reverse power flows. This paper presents an overview of such technology, from initial concept and state-of-the-art to some innovative projects, including advanced protection schemes between MVDC links and existing distribution grid. The examples include active current limiter devices, hybrid circuit breakers and a communication layer for the coordination of these protection devices and power converters (logic selectivity), making MVDC a valuable support for AC grid improvement.","PeriodicalId":6689,"journal":{"name":"2020 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"30 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83711534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The considered control is a common scheme widely studied in literature, in several configurations and for different case studies. The impact of the VSM control on the system stability is examined for the existing power network of a Mediterranean island. The VSM control is implemented within the power converters interfacing the energy storage systems (ESS) installed in the network. Simulations and analysis show the occurrence of oscillatory instability in the system, with the ESS-VSM and the synchronous machines of the network progressively swinging against each other. The reasons of the instability are identified as the lack of damping in the system and the adverse interaction between the VSM converter control and the synchronous machine dynamics. The possibility of extending the VSM control with a corrective action for the stabilization of the system is analyzed and discussed. A proper tuning procedure of the extended control is also provided.","PeriodicalId":6689,"journal":{"name":"2020 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"38 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84802026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, these data should be wisely used for efficient management and control. For these reasons, advanced functionalities have to be implemented in order to deal with the massive data stream. In this work, a stream clustering algorithm is used to model any load with a Markov Chain (MC). This algorithm is able to describe the typical load profile in real-time, thanks to a design and an implementation that minimizes the computational burden. The proposed procedure has been tested on an IEEE industrial machines dataset. In addition, a discussion on the parameter selection is provided.","PeriodicalId":6689,"journal":{"name":"2020 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"3 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82531621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model is built for quick and suitable validation of power-frequency correlation during a restoration test, the most stressed process into a system with low regulation energy. All involved components are modelled by SISO systems describing both power generation controls and load behaviours. The simulation results are widely discussed through the analyses of four load scenarios, with the aim of scanning all possible worst cases in terms of load steps.","PeriodicalId":6689,"journal":{"name":"2020 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"78 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76089019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
