Our approach involves equivalent circuit representation, corrected by nonlinear functions of frequency with coefficients extracted through nonlinear regression. At the same time, the tuning process connects two levels of coupler representation: EM simulation of the entire circuit and re-optimization of the coupler building blocks (slow-wave cells and folded transmission lines) with specifications obtained by appropriate manipulation of the corrected network model. The latter is driven by the necessity of accounting for EM cross-couplings within the coupler that result in performance degradation. Demonstration examples of a miniaturized rat-race coupler indicate that rapid and reliable design closure (at a cost of two or three coupler simulations) can be accomplished even for strong cross-couplings within the structure.","PeriodicalId":6675,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE/MTT-S International Microwave Symposium - IMS","volume":"28 1","pages":"101-103"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76038235","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Embedded in the tag is a circularly polarized (CP) antenna for functioning the SILO and a polarization-diversity CP array antenna for transmitting the tag's output signal to the receiver for Doppler detection. Owing to polarization diversity, the tag exhibits strong immunity to the moving clutter caused by the receiver. The use of varactors results in a compact implementation with fast and continuous tuning. The active loss compensation mechanism helps to compensate for losses generated by the tuning elements. Nonlinear performance and power handling of the tuning circuits are characterized. The filter operates at 2.5GHz with a constant absolute bandwidth of $pmb{25pm 3mathrm{MHz}}$. Measurement results demonstrate a tuning range of 100 MHz while the insertion loss remains below 0.9dB over the tuning range.","PeriodicalId":6675,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE/MTT-S International Microwave Symposium - IMS","volume":"123 2 1","pages":"1367-1369"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77450573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed filter consists of transversally placed and mutually rotated com-bline resonators inside a cylindrical tube. Various filter configurations with arbitrary placed transmission zeros (TZ) can be obtained by proper resonators arrangement. Furthermore, in comparison to conventional cross-coupled filters, the proposed configuration does not require any additional coupling elements and provides more compact overall dimensions. To validate the proposed configuration a fifth-order filter with two TZ has been designed, manufactured, and measured.","PeriodicalId":6675,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE/MTT-S International Microwave Symposium - IMS","volume":"110 1","pages":"1099-1102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86221113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These structures offer substantial die real estate reduction compared to previously reported wafer-level waveguides, while also offering the opportunity for improvements in integration and fabrication yield. The microfabrication process flow is outlined, and a fabricated prototype is measured. A ridged half-mode waveguide is designed and fabricated with cutoff frequency of 58 GHz, for operation within E-band. The measured results show attenuation loss as low as 0.3 dB/mm, while achieving 63% miniaturization over standard rectangular monolithic 3D waveguide previously reported. Independent from the carrier substrate performance, the proposed air-filled monolithic ridged half-mode waveguide demonstrates potential to provide enhanced integration technology suitable for millimeter-wave communication.","PeriodicalId":6675,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE/MTT-S International Microwave Symposium - IMS","volume":"39 1","pages":"323-326"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86223214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed nano-structured thin film structure is based on “activation” process in the fabrication flow. The activation process will transfer the nano-structure of thin film from disorder to order arrangement. Therefore, the coated thin film is having the characteristic of high transmittance and low resistivity. The proposed antenna has an operating bandwidth is found to be 1420 – 1720 MHz and 5290 – 6030 MHz. Traditionally, impedance spectroscopy in the kHz frequency range is used for measuring cell growth and other dynamic cell culture responses. This paper reports, for the first time, real-time in vivo monitoring of yeast cell growth up to microwave frequencies. To validate the approach, we here report on the correlation of microwave sensing to the more commonly used approach that is based on optical absorbance. Measurements on four cell suspensions of known concentrations, and on BY 4741 cell growth are successfully performed. Although more studies are required to further understand the events recorded by the monitoring procedure, the presented measurement results suggest that the proposed real-time microwave characterization technique is a faster and noninvasive option for early cell growth detection. Moreover, it is believed that this technique can be readily extended to mammalian cells.","PeriodicalId":6675,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE/MTT-S International Microwave Symposium - IMS","volume":"78 1","pages":"903-906"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88404931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The RF-input LMBA employs dynamic active matching for efficient operation over an octave bandwidth. Supply modulation is a natural candidate to further enhance the back-off efficiency of this broadband amplifier due to its independence on RF carrier frequency. In the ET-LMBA prototype demonstrated here, an efficient hybrid multi-level converter (power DAC) produces supply levels from 10 to 30 V to modulate the drain of the balanced amplifier. Digital predistortion is used to linearize the ET-LMBA behavior at discrete steps and over frequency. This system is demonstrated at 2.1, 2.7 and 3.5 GHz with a 20-MHz, 10-dB PAPR signal showing composite efficiency improvement between 9 and 12 percentage points when supply modulation is employed, while maintaining linearity.","PeriodicalId":6675,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE/MTT-S International Microwave Symposium - IMS","volume":"1 1","pages":"304-307"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90121277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed technique can be considered as a first step towards chipless authentication of manufactured products. The concept of chipless radiofrequency identification (RFID) is extended to tag discrimination, where each tag produces a unique signature that is very difficult to reproduce even if a clone of the device is made. The proposed technique, using radiofrequency (RF) electromagnetic (EM), keeps non-invasive and non-destructive. This new method to discriminate tag's RF signature is introduced based on the comparison between two resemblance metrics in the frequency domain and time domain. To calculate the resemblance between different signatures entire part of the RF signatures is exploited to utilize the maximum signals' richness. Owing to the chipless RF approach, we show that geometrical variations less than $pmb{10 mu mathrm{m}}$ (i.e., smaller than $lambda/1000$) can be detected which demonstrate the extreme sensitivity of the method.","PeriodicalId":6675,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE/MTT-S International Microwave Symposium - IMS","volume":"12 1","pages":"363-366"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90323046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
