Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is thus recognized as a promising technology in this case. However, pilot contamination leads to strong inter-cell interference and greatly degrades system performance. In this paper, we focus on the joint position-power optimization of time-shifted pilots in a maritime massive MIMO system. Based on large-scale channel fading information, we first propose an efficient user scheduling algorithm, and then optimize the pilot power under the average power constraint. Further, we optimize the positions and power of the pilots iteratively. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme achieves a considerable coordination gain in system performance in terms of spectral efficiency.","PeriodicalId":6471,"journal":{"name":"2017 26th Wireless and Optical Communication Conference (WOCC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89945597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim is to ensure fast and reliable broadcasting without interfering with upstream communications (from SNs to BS), whilst taking into account energy harvesting constraints. An adaptive approach is proposed where the BS first selects the broadcast time slots, given a wake-up schedule for the SNs (the time slots where the SN are active and in receiving mode). Hence, the SNs adapt their schedules. This is then iterated seeking optimal selection of the broadcast time slots, so as to minimize broadcast overhead (transmitted messages) and latency. Our approach enables fast broadcast and eliminates the need for adding protocol overhead (redundancy), compared to the existing solutions. Hidden Markov Model (HMM) and Baum-Welch learning algorithm are used for this purpose. Numerical results confirm that our scheme performs the broadcast operation in less time, and by reducing the broadcast overhead, as compared to state-of-the-art approaches.","PeriodicalId":6471,"journal":{"name":"2017 26th Wireless and Optical Communication Conference (WOCC)","volume":"282 2 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86588515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system performance of the downlink transmission in massive MIMO with PCP is investigated and an optimization problem is formulated to find the best pilot assignment solution in PCP assisted massive MIMO systems that can maximize the sum rate of the system. Two heuristic pilot assignment schemes are proposed to combine with zero forcing PCP (ZF-PCP) including a greedy scheme and a swapping-based scheme. The complexities of the both schemes are analyzed. Simulations are done and results indicate that the proposed two schemes perform well and can greatly outperform the ZF-PCP scheme and an existing enhanced PCP scheme with random pilot assignment. Results also show that obvious performance gain can be obtained by joint designing the pilot assignment and PCP.","PeriodicalId":6471,"journal":{"name":"2017 26th Wireless and Optical Communication Conference (WOCC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81577484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed scheme is based on separating the functions performed by station for channel access and dedicating states for contention and transmission separately rather than using a single shared state as done in IEEE 802.11. The result is an increase in access success ratio and avoidance of throughput collapse 802.11. The proposed scheme overcomes the throughput and utilization collapse of IEEE 802.11 under crowded scenarios and increases bandwidth utilization. This access is critical for crowded networks under emergency scenarios where many stations suddenly and intensively contend for network access. This scheme may also fits as a fallback mechanism of IEEE 802.11 networks to avoid throughput collapse under crowded scenarios and thus, to enable reliable communications in critical situations. Our simulation results show significant improvements on bandwidth utilization and throughput as compared to IEEE 802.11 under crowded conditions.","PeriodicalId":6471,"journal":{"name":"2017 26th Wireless and Optical Communication Conference (WOCC)","volume":"67 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86817116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance evaluation is based on two schemes of discrete multitone (DMT) and multilevel pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) techniques. The combined effects of modal dispersion of the POF and the limited bandwidth of the phosphor converted illumination LEDs induced frequency selectivity in the heterogeneous link. Equalisers are subsequently used to ameliorate the frequency selectivity of the channel. Results show that from a limited link 3-dB bandwidth of 17 MHz, a data rate of 122 Mbps is attainable using DMT with bit-loading while 91 Mbps is achievable with the low complexity PAM-4. The experimental demonstration results presented in this paper show that the POF/VLC hybrid represents a viable concept to extend the optical bandwidth available in the access network to the in-home network.","PeriodicalId":6471,"journal":{"name":"2017 26th Wireless and Optical Communication Conference (WOCC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87173509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, such deployment comes with major challenges, radio resource management and inter-cell interferences. Fractional Frequency Reuse mechanism (FFR) is one of the most effective interference avoidance techniques. In this paper, we evaluate an existing adaptation process that adjusts to better network performance as users move in the network. With adaptation in place, we utilize our proposed metric to determine inner region radius and frequency allocation which generates high total cell throughput and serves maximum number of users in the network.
