Though serving its purpose, Minimum Cycle Time excludes the delays inside the sending and receiving nodes, so it is insufficient to estimate the end-to-end latency. In this work, we describe some implementation possibilities of an Ethernet node in a System-on-Chip and present measurements of the delay to send/receive packets from/to the application layer. We chose different points in the software to make the measurement, so the results cover more use-cases. We found the Ethernet Lite Media Access Controller (MAC) to be faster than the hard MAC (GEM) and the Lightweight IP stack to add less than 2.2 μs. The adoption of linear potentiometers (the most used sensors in racing for linearity and simplicity) reveals to be expensive for mass market and unreliable in the long run. The paper deals with the validation of a soft sensor for the online estimation of the suspension velocity from acceleration signals. In the IoT concept, any physical object can be incorporated into the IoT and connected to the Internet. Thus, the IoT will comprise a wide range of heterogeneous devices, each using its own protocol for the exchange of data. The incorporation of such a large number of heterogeneous entities within the IoT system represents a challenge to the successful implementation of a complete IoT solution. To solve the heterogeneity problem in the IoT domain, an architecture must be developed that bridges the gap between the physical devices and the higher levels of IoT services. In particular the smarter the meters, the smarter the City, but the concept of smartness is not univocal. In urban area, smart meters must be accessible, collaborative and accurate. The paper faces this topic, mainly with reference to power measurements and wireless networks. In particular, it describes an innovative solution for electrical power, gas and water metering integration in the same infrastructure. Recommendations are issued regarding an influence of air friction and road inclination on torque allocation between electric and hydraulic brakes and accurate accounting of the hybrid energy storage. Following the study of three types of controllers-PID, tabular, and fuzzy logic-the latter one was offered as the most efficient solution for equally fast and safe braking with maximal energy recovery on different roads, from dry to icy, without locking and skidding even in critical situations. Reducing alarm floods, which arise of causal dependencies of equipment and their alarms in automated production systems, is aimed to decrease alarm rates and aggregate information to valuable notifications for the operator. However, common alarm flood analysis often lacks robustness against random occurring alarms or interfering alarm patterns, which disturb the known structure of sequences. Therefore, this contribution introduce a preprocessing step, calculating the dependencies of alarms probabilistically. This approach meet the fuzziness of alarm systems regarding precision in time domain and interfering alarm signals. The results, based on two different industrial data sets, reveal high accurateness of the clusters defined by the proposed method. Many services, including, but not limited to infrastructure services are deployed in the smart community. Some of the services in the smart community are time critical and require low latency between requests and responses. However, commonlyused cloud computing architecture is not designed with an emphasis on the latency. Therefore, the network architecture for low latency required services are necessary. This paper proposes a serviceproviding network for smart communities. In the proposed network, service-oriented router is utilized to provide the service in intermediate nodes between a cloud server and an end node. By responding to therequest at the intermediate node instead of the cloud where is close to the end devices, the latency is reduced. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed network, a simulation of the proposed network with two time-critical services were carried out in the network simulator ns-3. The ancillary service and intersection accident avoidance service are chosen to be considered in the simulation since they are attention-grabbing time-critical services for the smart community. The reduction of both latency and variation of the latency in both services was observed in the simulation. For the ancillary service, the proposed method has reduced the average latency to 10.85 ms that is low enough to provide stable service.
