The previous studies revealed that some digital immigrant teachers, the newcomers of the digital age, lacked the confidence to integrate technology during teaching since they were aware of the fact that their students were more proficient than they were. This study depicts the struggles of a digital immigrant EFL teacher-educator to engage with technology that aims at improving the English teaching performance. A digital immigrant EFL teacher from a high-quality education college in Myanmar was invited to be the research participant. Open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with both the research participant and students were applied to collect the data. The triangulation data revealed that the digital immigrant EFL teacher found difficulties in creating her digital learning media and improving her teaching technology integration competence due to her insufficient knowledge and IT skills. It also revealed that integrating technology improved the teacher's teaching performance; however, it destructed the objectives of the teaching due to technology deviation on students' attention. ABSTRAK Guru, terutama yang imigran digital, mengalami tantangan besar dalam mengejar ketertinggalan mereka terhadap teknologi yang bertujuan mengintegrasikan pembelajaran digital di kelas. Studi sebelumnya mengungkapkan bahwa beberapa guru imigran digital, pendatang baru di era digital, kurang percaya diri untuk mengintegrasikan teknologi selama mengajar karena mereka menyadari fakta bahwa siswanya lebih mahir. Penelitian ini menggambarkan seorang guru- pendidik EFL imigran digital untuk terlibat dengan teknologi yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kinerja pengajaran bahasa Inggris. Seorang guru EFL imigran digital dari perguruan tinggi pendidikan berkualitas di Myanmar diundang untuk menjadi peserta penelitian. Kuesioner terbuka dan wawancara semi terstruktur untuk peserta penelitian dan maha siswa digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Triangulasi data mengungkapkan bahwa guru EFL imigran digital mengalami kesulitan dalam media pembelajaran digital dan meningkatkan kompetensi integrasi teknologi karena pengetahuan dan keterampilannya yang kurang di bidang teknologi informasi. Ia juga mengungkapkan bahwa mengintegrasikan teknologi meningkatkan kinerja mengajar guru. Namun, hal itu merusak tujuan pembelajaran karena adanya penyimpangan teknologi yang menjadi perhatian siswa.","PeriodicalId":56238,"journal":{"name":"JEELS Journal of English Education and Linguistics Studies","volume":"150 1","pages":"216-237"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79460940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research applied quasi-experimental design, and the instruments were pretest and posttest. Both tests were about putting the pictures in order and form completion. Prior to strategy choice, this study utilized Posteriori Taxonomy of Strategies of Learning English Listening Skill (Zuhairi & Hidayanti, 2014) especially focusing on the use of eight strategy categories deployed by successful students (Hidayanti & Umamah, 2018). Gaining the result from Independent t-Test analysis, it was found out that the experimental group outperformed better than their counterparts in control group. Thus, Strategy-based instruction plays important role to enhance and improve the EFL learners’ listening skill. The issues of gender and IK are the cross-cutting subjects to be addressed in the contemporary educational discourses around the world including Nepal. Taking these issues into considering, this study critically examined and analysed the issues of addressing gender and integrating IK into the M.Ed. English courses of Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal, along with the pedagogical practices, assessment and research. Framing on indigenous perspective with social justice, cultural capital, classroom ecology and linguicism as the theoretical lenses, this study applied qualitative study of contents analysis and an open-ended questionnaire with the teachers from TU. The study found that the course content is not much inclusive in terms of gender and indigenous knowledge. However, pedagogical practices, assessment system and research are gender and indigenous friendly as responded by the participants. Its implication is that the M.Ed. English courses of Nepal’s TU needs to address the issues of gender and indigenous knowledge for equity, inclusion and recognition of indigenous knowledge for the glocal context.","PeriodicalId":56238,"journal":{"name":"JEELS Journal of English Education and Linguistics Studies","volume":"80 1","pages":"117-127"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81592477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data includes interviews with the teacher and observation on class postings in WA group and student-teacher timeline for four meetings. The data were analyzed qualitatively, and interpretively, resulting in three emerging themes about the WA to teach English remotely in low-tech classroom: the implementation of WA for online teaching, managing online learning activities in WA group and teacher’s constrains in applying WA in teaching online. The result of analysis indicates that WA is considered effective to teach English remotely in a limited internet connection classroom. With some adjustments to the instructional design, teaching and learning process could run well. However, due to the lack of students-teacher direct interaction, virtual class could not go as engaging as face-to-face learning in the classroom.","PeriodicalId":56238,"journal":{"name":"JEELS Journal of English Education and Linguistics Studies","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86874281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can be seen from the mushrooming of bilingual and international schools where English is used as the language of instruction as well as the increasing number of English courses aimed especially for children. Sometimes people hold a misconception regarding teaching English for young learners, in which they believe that the earlier the kids learn a foreign language, the better it will be. As a matter of fact, this assumption is not completely true. Only when handled with care will the teaching of foreign language to young learners succeed as expected? Otherwise, this will not gain a significant effect on children’s language development. This paper will elaborate some principles on how young learners learn a foreign language, which should be the foundation of the way the teaching English to young learners is conducted. Some theories on how children learn will be drawn on, followed by a discussion on the pedagogical implications. This paper is expected to give insights to English teachers in general and teachers of English for young learners in particular, about the importance of taking into account the aspects related to the way young learners learn in designing their teaching learning process.","PeriodicalId":56238,"journal":{"name":"JEELS Journal of English Education and Linguistics Studies","volume":"70 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86227573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method used to analyze the data in this study was the descriptive analysis method to clarify. This study showed that the English department of the third year Universitas Pasifik Morotai performed mixing code vocabulary between American English and British English. The mixing code of the sixth-semester students is the outer mixing code. Students mix both languages and from all results of the respondents, which is more dominant to the American accent, with total vocabularies of 50 and British English 45 vocabularies. . Some reasons put forward by the students when they produce code-mixing, firstly the students want to build motivation in learning English. Secondly, code-mixing in the teaching process makes their utterance clearer when explaining so the listener could understand faster. Code-mixing in the class expresses her/his emotion or feeling to the listener. The last reason is sometimes she/he finds a word that has no representation in another language.","PeriodicalId":56238,"journal":{"name":"JEELS Journal of English Education and Linguistics Studies","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90373931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
