Some fraction variations are performed on the use of polyurethane as a matrix with a range of 0.04–0.20 (w/w). Mechanical and physical properties have been tested on the composites produced. The test results showed that the highest compressive strength of the sample reaches 38.5 MPa for polyurethane fraction of 0.14 (w/w). The composite has a density of 1261 kg m−3 which is in accordance with the result of density on teak. The physical properties have been also investigated and it was found that the lowest value of water absorption is 1.38%. This result indicated that the composites produced are potentially to replace wood raw material in eco-friendly industrial scale.","PeriodicalId":55551,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Composites Letters","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2020-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/2633366X20962507","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42147295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anticorrosive coatings can effectively prevent metal corrosion. In this study, we propose a novel method to prepare silica nanoparticles-covered graphene oxide (SiO2-GO) nanohybrids and anticorrosion SiO2-GO/waterborne polyurethane acrylic (WPUA) coatings. Firstly, we obtained silane-functionalized graphene oxide (A-GO) via a simple covalent functionalization of graphene oxide (GO) with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane. Secondly, SiO2-GO was synthesized by a simple sol–gel method with tetraethoxysilane in water–alcohol solution. Finally, the obtained SiO2-GO nanofillers were added into WPUA to prepare SiO2-GO/WPUA coatings. GO, A-GO, and SiO2-GO nanohybrids could be confirmed by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectra, and transmission electron microscope. SiO2-GO nanohybrids showed small size compared with the unfunctionalized GO. Meanwhile, GO, A-GO, and SiO2-GO nanofillers were added into WPUA. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscope indicate that SiO2-GO nanohybrids can be homogeneously dispersed in the WPUA coatings at 0.4% loading level and the SiO2-GO/WPUA film exhibits excellent anticorrosion performance. SiO2-GO nanoparticles can effectively utilize in the area of anticorrosive nanofiller industry. This study provides a convenient method of anticorrosive coating production.","PeriodicalId":55551,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Composites Letters","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2020-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/2633366X20941524","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48967032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The CFRP/CFRP tendons are simulated with spatial beam element and the HPC beam is modeled with the layered shell element. With the coordination of nodal linear displacement and rotational displacement of CFRP/GFRP tendons element, the contribution of CFRP/GFRP element to stiffness matrix of nonlinear shell beam mixed element is deduced. Then, Jiang’s yielding criterion, Hinton’s crushing criterion, and so on, are used to describe the material nonlinearity of concrete. The new kind of nonlinear shell beam mixed element is achieved and the three-dimensional nonlinear calculation program is developed. The calculative results are consistent with the development trend of test results, which shows the correctness of the nonlinear shell beam mixed element and the reliability of the development program. The mixed element can accurately simulate the geometric configuration of CFRP tendons and realize the tension-compression-bending-shearing performance of CFRP tendons, which is helpful to fully reflect the reinforcement effect of reinforcement in the structure. The computational stiffness is defined and the stiffness degradation experiences three change processes. During the whole processes in the proposed typical load cases, the CFRP/GFRP tendons are still kept in the elastic stages.","PeriodicalId":55551,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Composites Letters","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2020-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/2633366X20954447","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47549892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To study the tension and compression behaviour of glulam bamboo, the bamboo scrimber and laminated bamboo as two kinds of typical glulam bamboo materials were tested under axial loading. Their mechanical behaviour and failure modes were investigated. The results showed that the bamboo scrimber and laminated bamboo have similar failure modes. For tensile failure, bamboo fibres were ruptured with sawtooth failure surfaces shown as brittle failure; for compression failure, the two modes of compression are buckling and compression shear failure. The stress–strain relationship curves of the bamboo scrimber and laminated bamboo are also similar. The tensile stress–strain curves showed a linear relationship, and the compressive stress–strain curves can be divided into three stages: elastic, elastoplastic and post-yield. Based on the test results, the stress–strain model was proposed for glulam bamboo, in which a linear equation was used to describe the tensile stress–strain relationship and the Richard–Abbott model was employed to model the compressive stress–strain relationship. A comparison with the experimental results shows that the predicted results are in good agreement with the experimental curves.","PeriodicalId":55551,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Composites Letters","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2020-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/2633366X20958726","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44354459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The orthogonal experimental design of L25 (53) was employed to study the significance sequence of three factors, including milling time of bauxite, milling time of feldspar, and sintering temperature. The results show that the particle size of feldspar is the most important factor for the performance of the proppants. The longer the milling time of feldspar is, the finer the particle size of feldspar is, and the easier it is to form liquid phase at a lower temperature. For the breakage ratio, the optimal experimental combination is bauxite milled for 4 h, feldspar milled for 8 h, and sintering temperature of 1280°C. The proppants prepared by the optimal combination have bulk density of 1.48 g cm−3, apparent density of 2.7 g cm−3, breakage ratio of 4.07% under 52 MPa closed pressure, and acid solubility of 2.15%.","PeriodicalId":55551,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Composites Letters","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2020-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/2633366X20954875","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43948560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An experimental platform that generates lightning current impulses with variable parameters was established to obtain the equivalent conductivities of CFRPs with different laminated structures. The experimental results indicated that the through-thickness conductivity (10−3 S/mm) was much lower than the in-plane conductivity (100 S/mm). Then, the dynamic conduction model of CFRPs was analyzed based on the anisotropic nonlinear conductivities of CFRPs under lightning currents of 50–1000 A. The CFRP laminate could be regarded as a series circuit of resistance and inductance. The dynamic conductance of the CFRP laminate first increased and then decreased during the single lightning current strike process, which was closely related to the conductive properties of the interlaminar resin. The inductive properties of the CFRP material were manifested in the test results, which showed that the voltage reached the peak value prior to the current waveform and the equivalent conductivities of the CFRPs increased as the rate of increase decreased and the duration increased. In addition, the equivalent inductance of the carbon fiber network was found to be an important part of the inductive effect of CFRP laminates. This research is helpful for understanding the complicated relationships in the lightning current conducting process and can provide experimental and theoretical support for CFRP coupled electrical–thermal simulation studies of lightning direct effects.","PeriodicalId":55551,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Composites Letters","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2020-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/2633366X20942775","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41377142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An explicit dynamic finite element model is developed to simulate the bullet penetration process using ANSYS Workbench software. However, the thin-walled workpieces exhibit poor rigidity, large yield ratio, and easily deform under the cutting force and cutting heat during the machining process. Herein, in order to improve the processing efficiency and precision of higher volume fraction SiCp/Al composite thin-walled workpieces, the influence of different high-speed milling parameters and machining paths on the edge defects is analyzed. The results reveal that the cutting force initially increased and then decreased with the cutting speed. Besides, the cutting force steadily increased with radial cutting depth and feed per tooth, but the influence of feed per tooth is less than radial cutting depth. After up-milling cut-in and cut-out processing and down-milling cut-out processing, the cut-in end of the workpiece exhibited higher breakage and obvious edge defects. However, the workpiece edges remained intact after down-milling cut-in processing. In conclusion, a higher cutting speed, a smaller radial cutting depth, and moderate feed per tooth are required to decrease the cutting force during the milling of SiCp/Al composite thin-walled workpiece. Furthermore, down-milling cut-in processing mode can reduce the edge defects and improve the processing efficiency and precision of the workpiece.","PeriodicalId":55551,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Composites Letters","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2020-08-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/2633366X20942529","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43460569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results showed that the material displayed good quality form without defects, such as holes, cracks, solid inclusions, incomplete fusion and penetration, or unfavorable shape and size. Furthermore, it displayed good internal metallurgical bonding and has a metallographic structure composed mainly of ferrite and granular bainite. High-resolution TEM suggested sharp grain edges, as well as a large number of crystal defects, such as dislocations and martensite–austenite islands in the 09MnNiDR crystal structure. The material showed relatively uniform microhardness distribution on the longitudinal and transverse sections with average values of 188.2 and 167.5 HV0.2, respectively. Also, the material exhibited superior mechanical properties. The major objective of this work is to develop three HSDTs in a unique formulation by polynomial–hyperbolic–exponential and polynomial–trigonometric forms, propose the three new HSDT models, investigate the effect of thickness stretching by considering a quasi-three-dimensional theory and analyse the free vibration of isotropic and FGM monolayer and sandwich (symmetric as well as non-symmetric, with hardcore as well as softcore) plates to demonstrate the models ability. Therefore, the Hamilton’s principle is exploited to develop equations of motion based on a displacement field of only five unknowns, of which three of them distinguished the transverse displacement membranes through the plate thickness (bending, shear and stretching displacements). In addition, the analytical solutions are found by applying the Navier approach for a simply supported boundary conditions type. The theory also considered that transverse shear deformation effect satisfied the stress-free boundary conditions on the plate-free surfaces without any requirement of shear correction factors. The used mechanical properties followed the power law and the Mori–Tanaka scheme distributions through the plate thickness. The determined results explained the effects of different non-dimensional parameters, and the proposed HSDTs predict the proper responses for monolayer and sandwich (symmetric as well as non-symmetric, with hardcore as well as softcore) FGM plates in comparison with other different plates’ theories solutions found in the literature references, thus the reliability and accuracy of the present approach are ascertained. It is obtained that the present formulations of polynomial–hyperbolic–exponential and polynomial–trigonometric forms can be further extended to all existing HSDTs models, for numerous problems related to the shear deformable effect.","PeriodicalId":55551,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Composites Letters","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2020-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/0963693520941865","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45592244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
