Amidella (E.-J.Gilbert) Neville & Poumarat form a well-defined clade, but some taxa remain difficult to discriminate. In particular, the concept of Amanita valens (E.-J.Gilbert) Bertault remains controversial. To understand the phylogenetic placement of a set of collections from southern Portugal with a novel nrDNA barcode, we have obtained nrDNA sequences for previously unassessed type collections. The taxon formerly described as A. curtipes f. pseudovalens Neville & Poumarat is interpreted as a separate species, A. pseudovalens comb. nov., stat. nov., and is genetically indistinct from those Portuguese collections, thus clarifying their taxonomic context. However, the morphology and ecology of our collections are distinct (respectively, ellipsoid to oblong basidiospores and occurrence on schist soils), and are proposed as a new variety, A. pseudovalens var. tartessiana var. nov. These developments also enable a better diagnosis of the taxa of series Amidella in Europe, a progress that is most decisive for the late winter to spring collections, and an identification key is proposed. Still, the co-occurrence and morphological similarity of the new variety with the prized edible A. ponderosa Malençon & R.Heim could leave some collections of either taxon unresolved. Thus, a molecular marker approach was developed, to provide a clear and cost-effective identification aid to complement the key. The proposed diagnostic tools can be applied toward a review of European Amidella taxa chorology from existing records, conserved materials, and future collections. RÉSUMÉ Le clade Amidella en Europe (Basidiomycota: Amanitaceae): clarification du controversé Amanita valens (E.-J.Gilbert) Bertault et importance de l'utilisation de primers PCR spécifiques aux taxons pour l'identification. Les espèces de Amanita ser. Amidella (E.-J.Gilbert) Neville & Poumarat forment un clade bien défini, mais certains taxons restent difficiles à discriminer. En particulier, le concept d'Amanita valens (E.-J.Gilbert) Bertault reste controversé. Pour comprendre le placement phylogénétique d'un ensemble de collections du sud du Portugal avec un nouveau barcode nrDNA, nous avons obtenu des séquences nrDNA pour des collections type non évaluées auparavant. Le taxon précédemment décrit comme A. curtipes f. pseudovalens Neville & Poumarat est interprété comme une espèce distincte, A. pseudovalens comb. nov., stat. nov., et est génétiquement indistinct de ces collections portugaises, clarifiant ainsi leur contexte taxonomique. Cependant, la morphologie et l'écologie de nos collections sont distinctes (respectivement, basidiospores ellipsoïdes à oblongues et occurrence sur des sols schisteux), et sont proposées comme une nouvelle variété, Amanita pseudovalens var. tartessiana var. nov. Fr. and M. siccus (Schwein.) Fr. (ser. Haematocephali) were respectively described from Southeastern Brazil and from Eastern United States, and subsequently reported as pantropical and pantemperate. Recent phylogenetic studies indicate that these two species are closely related in their broad concepts and at least M. haematocephalus is suggested to be a species complex. We evaluated herein whether M. haematocephalus is or is not pantropical and whether M. siccus is or is not pantemperate. Combined nrITS + nrLSU and nrITS + rpb2 + ef1-α phylogenies were reconstructed using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian analyses and integrated with detailed morphological data. Results indicated that M. haematocephalus ‘sensu stricto’ (s. str.) is at most Neotropical, with closely related species in Tropical Africa and Indo-Malayan region. Similarly, M. siccus s. str. is at most Nearctical, with closely related species in the temperate Palearctic. For the time being, one can recognize about 23 species in the M. haematocephalus and M. siccus complexes, of which four are described as new herein. RÉSUMÉ Démêler les espèces cryptiques dans les complexes d'espèces Marasmius haematocephalus (Mont.) Fr. et M. siccus (Schwein.) Fr. (Agaricales, Basidiomycota). Marasmius haematocephalus (Mont.) Fr. et M. siccus (Schwein.) Fr. (ser. Haematocephali) ont été respectivement décrits du sud-est du Brésil et de l'est des États-Unis, signalés par la suite comme pantropicaux et pantempérés. Dans des études phylogénétiques récentes, ils semblent étroitement liés dans leurs concepts généraux et au moins M. haematocephalus est suggéré comme un complexe d'espèces. Nous avons cherché à déterminer ici si M. haematocephalus est ou non pantropical et si M. siccus est ou non pantempéré. Les phylogénies combinées nrITS + nrLSU et nrITS + rpb2 + ef1-α ont été reconstruites dans les analyses de vraisemblance maximale et bayésiennes et intégrées avec des données morphologiques détaillées. Les résultats ont indiqué que M. haematocephalus ‘sensu stricto’ (s. str.) n’est pas pantropical mais tout au plus néotropical, avec des espèces proches en Afrique tropicale et en Indo-Malaisie. De façon similaire, M. siccus s. str. est tout au plus néarctique, avec des espèces proches dans le paléarctique tempéré. Pour l’instant, on peut reconnaître environ 23 espèces dans les complexes M. haematocephalus et M. siccus, dont quatre sont décrites ici comme nouvelles.","PeriodicalId":55201,"journal":{"name":"Cryptogamie Mycologie","volume":"18 1","pages":"91 - 137"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75405259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lack of reference sequences for this species hampers its reliable identification by mycologists and fungal ecologists in the DNA era. We here fix this issue by epitypifying H. roseodiscoideus with a sequenced collection from the Aix-en-Provence area, where the species has been described from. We also report several sequenced collections from central European countries and Lebanon, that considerably extend the species' biogeographical distribution. Based on our findings, H. roseodiscoideus can be characterized as a morphologically distinct thermophilous species, associated with oaks on calcareous soils, distributed along the northern coasts of the Mediterranean, from Spain to the Levant, but also colonizing the warmest Quercus woodlands of central Europe. RÉSUMÉ Hygrophorus roseodiscoideus Bon & Chevassut: épitypification et mise à jour biogéographique d'une espèce thermophile méconnue mais répandue. Hygrophorus roseodiscoideus Bon & Chevassut est une espèce méconnue jusqu'ici supposée restreinte aux chênaies méditerranéennes d'Europe occidentale. À l'heure où les sciences naturalistes sont entrées dans l'ère phylogénétique, l'absence de séquence de référence pour cette espèce prive les mycologues, ainsi que les experts en écologie fongique, d'un outil d'identification fiable de ce taxon. Nous solutionnons ici ce problème en épitypifiant H. roseodiscoideus avec une récolte séquencée issue des environs d'Aix-en-Provence, d'où l'espèce a été initialement décrite. Nous présentons aussi ici plusieurs récoltes séquencées d'Europe centrale et du Liban, qui étendent considérablement la distribution biogéographique de l'espèce. Sur la base de ce travail, H. roseodiscoideus se présente comme une espèce morphologiquement bien typée, thermophile, associée aux chênes sur sol calcaire, distribuée tout au long de la côte nord de la Méditerranée, depuis l'Espagne jusqu'au Levant, mais colonisant aussi les chênaies les plus chaudes d'Europe centrale.","PeriodicalId":55201,"journal":{"name":"Cryptogamie Mycologie","volume":"417 1","pages":"81 - 90"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2022-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77500857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cáceres, sp. nov. with flat, black, isolated areoles. A number of substrate shifts was observed: 1) the new species of Peltula Nyl. does not grow in places with run-off as usual, but on top of the boulders, where it is in the best position to catch the precipitation, which is the limiting factor here; 2) Synalissa matogrossensis (Malme) Henssen, which was previously known only from the type locality, where it grows on limestone, was found on granite; the apparently considerable width of its ecological amplitude is unusual. Its position inside the Lichinaceae was confirmed by sequence data; 3) Xanthoparmelia succedans Elix & J.Johnst. was found growing on bark, rather high on trees. The corticolous occurrence is attributed to high diaspores pressure; 4) the area and thus the tree bark is wet enough part of the year to sustain the growth of a corticolous Lichinaceae (one of only two compared to 340 saxicolous and terricolous species in the family) and other cyanophilic lichens; and 5) the new Cresponea Egea & Torrente is the first saxicolous species in the genus in the tropics, where the genus is most speciose; its thallus is deeply endolithic.","PeriodicalId":55201,"journal":{"name":"Cryptogamie Mycologie","volume":"7 1","pages":"181 - 189"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75256744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite this, their identification has been based on morphological and then molecular characters in the absence of reference type specimens. Although long of scientific, commercial and regulatory use, these four scientific names are at risk due to a lack of nomenclatural priority. To provide the scientific community with reference voucher samples and to initiate nomenclatural proposals for the recognition of their status as conserved names, three collections from sites mentioned by their authors (Picco and Vittadini) are proposed as epitypes for Tuber aestivum, T. borchii and T. melanosporum, and one as a neotype for T. magnatum. The type of each name is described morphologically and molecularly characterized with the sequences of three markers: ITS, β-tubulin, elongation factor 1α. The taxonomy and nomenclature of each species are discussed. The conservation of the names Tuber aestivum against the previous homonymous Tuber aestivum (Wulfen) Spreng. and the competing name Tuber blotii Eudes-Desl., T. magnatum against Tuber griseum Borch ex Pers., and T. melanosporum against Tuber nigrum Bull. will be proposed. The name Tuber borchii has no previous synonyms and therefore it is legitimate and does not require conservation.","PeriodicalId":55201,"journal":{"name":"Cryptogamie Mycologie","volume":"42 1","pages":"149 - 170"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86940939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
