The delay effects of the advertisement on the sales rate are also considered in the problem. This leads to a control problem where the state equations are represented by integro-differential equations. The objective is to use optimal control theory to determine the production and advertising rates of the decay item which maximize the current value of net profit stream. For the model developed we present a computational procedure of finding the optimal policy and then carry out sensitivity analysis through an example problem. The properties of the optimal solution are discussed for the case of constant rate of delay effect.","PeriodicalId":54672,"journal":{"name":"Optimal Control Applications & Methods","volume":"8 1","pages":"351-364"},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2007-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1002/OCA.4660080405","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"51031314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The plate undergoes transient vibrations starting from specified initial displacement and velocity distributions, and the control is exercised by optimally determining the transverse distributed force. The multiple objectives of the problem are taken into account by adopting a vector performance criterion comprising quadratic functional of the deflection, velocity and distributed force. The sufficiency condition of optimality is derived using control theory results which lead to an analytic solution of the problem. Numerical results are given for simply supported plates made of specially orthotropic layers of boron-fibre-reinforced plastic material. It is demonstrated that the effectiveness of the proposed control depends on the lamination order, foundation modulus, viscous damping, aspect ratio and terminal time as well as on the weight factors attached to various cost functionals.","PeriodicalId":54672,"journal":{"name":"Optimal Control Applications & Methods","volume":"9 1","pages":"1-17"},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2007-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1002/OCA.4660090102","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"51030946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we examine a variant of such boundary integral methods based on Cauchy integrals. The cost functional here contains only finitely many quadratic terms related to sensory data at those finite interior points. We see that the numerical efficiency of this approach hinges largely on the complexity of the inverse of a certain boundary integral operator. In the case of a circle, such an inverse is readily obtainable and entire computations require only a small effort to yield useful numerical information about the optimal control. Other general situations are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":54672,"journal":{"name":"Optimal Control Applications & Methods","volume":"9 1","pages":"93-100"},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2007-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1002/OCA.4660090109","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"51031031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is applied to a DC motor/AC generator system. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated by simulation and experimental studies. An input-output relation is derived through the observable canonical form of the state equations of the controlled object, and an improved optimal regulator theory is applied to the relation. The controller consists of proportional actions, integral actions, difference actions and compensating actions for input delay times. The (l — 1) th-order difference actions are included in the controller for the controlled object in which an lth-order output subsystem is included. On the other hand, the (n — 1) th-order difference actions are included in the previous method for the same controlled object. In order to consider the transient response of the designed control system, the relations between the weighting factors in the defined performance index and the transient response are studied by simulation and experiment. Satisfactory responses for a two-input/two-output system are obtained in our experiments.","PeriodicalId":54672,"journal":{"name":"Optimal Control Applications & Methods","volume":"8 1","pages":"365-375"},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2007-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1002/OCA.4660080406","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"51031361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model is constrained by an equity-capital formation and a linear homogeneous earnings-investment possibility function composed of two components: an adjustment-cost function and an ordinary production function. Pontryagin's maximum principle is used to solve the model.
