Discovered in 2012 by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations, today the Higgs boson is a very powerful tool to test the validity of SM theory at the TeV scale. The Higgs boson can be produced at proton-proton colliders, such as LHC, in different ways and many decay channels are predicted by the Standard Model. At ATLAS Run-2, this particle is widely studied mainly through its decays in vectors boson pairs (H → ZZ∗, H → WW ∗ and H → γγ). In this context, the latest results, obtained using the dataset collected by the ATLAS experiment during 2015 and 2016 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, are presented. Experimental techniques and estimates of the main backgrounds will be discussed in detail.","PeriodicalId":54452,"journal":{"name":"Rivista Del Nuovo Cimento","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84024455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since 2009, BESIII has collected the world’s largest sample of J/ψ, ψ(2S), and ψ(3770). In 2016 BEPCII has reached the design luminosity of 10 cm−2s−1, setting a world record for e+e− accelerators in this energy regime. Moreover, since BEPCII can provide collisions with center-of-mass energies between 2 and 4.6 GeV, BESIII has unique datasets to investigate the properties of the new exotic XY Z states, open charm decays, hadron spectroscopy and new physics searches, with no direct competitor in the τ -charm energy region. In this paper, an overview on the status of the BESIII experiment and of its more recent results is presented.","PeriodicalId":54452,"journal":{"name":"Rivista Del Nuovo Cimento","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79874087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Classical THGEMs consist of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) with a regular pattern of holes obtained by drilling; they are manufactured by industry in large series and large size; their response for different geometrical parameters and operational conditions has been extensively studied. Different substrates (ceramic, glass, PTFE, etc.) and various production procedures have also been investigated with promising results. Different design options, like highly segmented electrodes, and different architectures, in particular those based on the Thick-WELL design are being actively studied. THGEMs are used as gaseous multipliers and as reflective photocathodes for VUV photons when coated with a CsI layer. THGEM-based Photon Detectors have been successfully implemented in 2016 on COMPASS RICH-1 for a total active area of 1.4 m. Applications of THGEM (also called LEM) technology in the field of cryogenic detectors, in particular for double-phase large volume Ar ones are proposed. The recently discovered phenomenon of bubble assisted electro-luminescence in liquid Xe opens the way to local dual phase cryogenic detector configurations when using THGEMs. The detection of X-rays and neutrons using THGEM-based devices is a very active field. Promising results have been obtained using THGEMs for imaging applications.","PeriodicalId":54452,"journal":{"name":"Rivista Del Nuovo Cimento","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91060011","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It consists of a sparse array of about 50 muon telescopes distributed throughout the Italian territory plus CERN, covering an area of 3 × 10 km. Its distinctive feature is that the telescopes, based on Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPC), are housed in High Schools and managed by groups of students and teachers. About ∼ 40 × 10 muon tracks have been stored and analyzed since the first coordinated data taking in 2014. The analysis activity is currently in progress and focused on several items: coincidence searches of muons from the same EAS and long distance correlations between different EAS, study of time variations of the muon flux on ground level, searches for large scale cosmic ray anisotropy and for upward-going particles.","PeriodicalId":54452,"journal":{"name":"Rivista Del Nuovo Cimento","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83956720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
