Three molecular markers were used: mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1), nuclear small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rDNA) and internal transcribed spacer 1-5.8S rRNA (ITS1-5.8S rDNA) genes. Morphological analysis revealed differences in key structures, including paruterine organ shape and testis arrangement. Molecular analysis revealed that A. sudanea showed no exact match but significant similarity with other species: A. lahorea and A. centripunctata, exhibiting 91.39% and 85.89-86.52% (SSU rDNA), 96.27 and 94.31% (cox1), 94.19 and 94.41% (ITS1-5.8S rDNA) sequence similarity, respectively. The Maximum Likelihood phylogenetic trees based on DNA sequences of SSU rRNA, cox1 and ITS1 placed these species in a separate clade, which was distinct from anoplocephalids (sensu stricto) and supported the thysanosomatids as a distinct taxon at the family level. The evolutionary divergence based on base substitution rates confirmed substantial interspecific genetic distinctions, with high divergence values of 0.12 (cox1), 0.25 (SSU rDNA) and 0.11 (ITS1-5.8S rDNA) between A. sudanea and A. centripunctata. This study provides the first molecular characterization of A. sudanea, confirming its genetic distinctiveness and taxonomic status as a valid species. This is a cosmopolitan tick species whose distribution encompass the Afrotropical, Australasian, Nearctic and Neotropical Zoogeographic Regions, and Pacific Oceans islands. Ixodes auritulus sensu stricto was described from southern Chile, and recently new species from this complex were described based only on morphological characters. In this study, specimens of ticks determined to belong to the I. auritulus complex obtained from the Southern Cone of America in different biogeographic regions of Argentina, southern Chile, Brazil and Uruguay were analyzed. Additionally, a female paratype of Ixodes rio Apanaskevich & Labruna, 2022 from the southern from Brazil was included in the study. Morphological characters were analyzed and phylogenetic analyses were performed by obtaining partial mitochondrial DNA sequences of the 16S rRNA and cox1 genes. The specimens from Punta Arenas, Magallanes Province, southern Chile (type locality) correspond morphologically to I. auritulus s.s. and those from central and northern Argentina (Pampa and Yungas Biogeographic Provinces), Uruguay and southern Brazil (Pampa Biogeographic Province) were morphologically compatible with I. rio. The phylogenetic analysis based on mitochondrial DNA sequences support the classification of I. auritulus s.s. from southern Chile and I. rio from Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay as two distinct species. Phylogenetic analyses of the order Echinorhynchida Southwell & Macfie, 1925 were performed based on the concatenated (18S+28S+COI) sequence data using maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian inference (BI) analyses. The results showed that N. nudus grouped together with species of Rhadinorhynchus Lühe, 1911, supporting the proposal that Neorhadinorhynchus Yamaguti, 1939 is a synonym of Rhadinorhynchus. Rhadinorhynchus mariserpentis Steinauer et al., 2019 was also treated as a junior synonym of Rhadinorhynchus nudus. Larvae of Posthodiplostomum spp. commonly cause the 'white grub' disease of fishes. During July 2024, we collected Posthodiplostomum spp. from green heron Butorides virescens and great egret Ardea alba in Georgia, USA, including two new species. We provide descriptions of both new species in the present study. Partial nuclear 28S rDNA and mitochondrial cox1 gene DNA sequences were generated for all collected species; newly obtained 28S sequences were used to study the phylogenetic interrelationships among Posthodiplostomum spp. The new species have a subspherical prosoma that is characteristic in only a few other species, notably Posthodiplostomum aztlanensis and Posthodiplostomum nanum which parasitize the same avian host species. Despite minimal morphological differences among Posthodiplostomum seminolense n. sp., Posthodiplostomum dawnsherryae n. sp., P. aztlanensis and P. nanum, these morphologically similar species differ by 0.5-5.9% in partial 28S sequences and 10.9-17.4% in partial cox1 sequences. The syntypes of the first species were collected in Kazan (European Russia), while those of the two latter species were obtained from Lake Baikal (Siberia). The genus Protoclepsis Livanow, 1902 was established for a group of waterfowl-associated leeches with four pairs of eyespots and represents a synonym of Theromyzon Philippi, 1867. In contrast, the taxonomic concept of Livanow's nominal species was a matter of over a century-long discussion. Here, we revise the taxonomic position of these taxa based upon morphological examination of the original type series that were rediscovered in the Edward Eversman Zoology Museum and Herbarium, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, Russia. The lectotype is designated for each of the three nominal species. We found that Protoclepsis garjaewi morphologically corresponds to Hyperboreomyzon polaris Bolotov et al., 2022, although the first taxon was incorrectly described by Livanow as having four pairs of eyespots. Hence, Hyperboreomyzon garjaewi (Livanow, 1902) comb. nov. is proposed. Protoclepsis meyeri represents a synonym of Theromyzon maculosum (Rathke, 1862), as suggested by Livanow himself, while Protoclepsis tessellatoides is a synonym of Theromyzon mollissimum (Grube, 1871). Protoclepsis mollissima Livanow, 1902 incertae sedis has strongly reduced papillation and pigmentation and is tentatively considered a deep-water ecological race of Theromyzon mollissimum. A key for reliable morphological identification of the waterfowl-associated glossiphoniid leeches of Northern Eurasia is also presented. Sporulated oöcysts of this species are ovoidal, 26.3 × 20.3 (23-28 × 16-22) µm, with a length/width ratio of 1.4 (1.2-1.6), a pitted, bi-layered wall, and 0-2 polar granules; oöcyst residuum and micropyle are absent. Sporocysts are ovoidal, 13.3 × 8.2 (12-15 × 7-9) µm, with a length/width ratio of 1.7 (1.6-1.0), a Stieda body, and sporocyst residuum; sporozoites contain a posterior refractile body. The measurements and structural features of these oöcysts are similar to those reported for E. ovata described from the eastern chipmunk Tamias striatus. Using morphological and molecular data, a new coccidia species, Eimeria koka n. sp., isolated from two closely related but geographically isolated kiwi host species, Apteryx rowi Tennyson et al. (rowi) and Apteryx mantelli Bartlett (North Island brown kiwi), is described. Oocysts are oval (20.8 × 15.9 μm) with a mean L/W ratio of 1.3, and a distinctive rough, crenellated brown oocyst wall (mean 1.2 μm), an oocyst residuum, 1-2 polar granules, and no micropyle. Sporocysts are ellipsoidal (11.6 × 6.3 μm) with a Stieda body and sporocyst residuum. Phylogenetic analysis of the cytochrome C oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) placed E. koka n. sp. in a separate clade to other Eimeria species previously identified from kiwi (Coker et al., Syst Parasitol 100(3):269-281, 2023). Comparison of DNA from oocysts with infected tissues from a single juvenile North Island brown kiwi confirmed parasitism of the kidney and lung tissues. This is the first Eimeria species identified from extraintestinal tissues in kiwi. Their metacercariae were found in a variety of freshwater fishes as second intermediate hosts. Prior to this study, the genus included only 3 nominal species, 2 of them distributed in the Old World and 1 in the New World. We obtained sequences of partial mitochondrial cox1 gene and nuclear rDNA operon from new specimens collected in Europe, North and South America and used them for species comparisons and phylogenetic analysis. We also examined morphology of our newly collected specimens as well as museum specimens. Our analysis has demonstrated that at least 2 (likely 3) species of Hysteromorpha are distributed in the Americas. Hysteromorpha sp. previously sequenced from larval stages, clearly represents a new species named herein Hysteromorpha ostrowskiae n. sp. Achatz, Locke et Tkach. Morphology of adults of the new species was earlier described in sufficient detail under the name Hysteromorpha triloba (Rudolphi, 1819). Ondoella n. g. differs from all other genera of axinids mainly by the possession of an unarmed cirrus. Ondoella n. g. is characterised by the following features: (i) the spherical cirrus present; (ii) spines on the cirrus absent; (iii) the genital pore with a crown of a row of spines; (iv) the elongate body; (v) the vaginal pore with a horn-like spine, and (vi) vaginal pore dorsolateral. The phylogenetic analysis based on 28S rDNA sequences suggests that O. sajori and Axinidae constitute a monophyletic group.
