Wikipedia, as by far the most visited and significant source of information on the Internet, plays a crucial role in shaping the information people read. Even though its vision is to record the “sum of all human knowledge”, there are still significant imbalances in representation between Western knowledge traditions and indigenous knowledges in the global South on Wikipedia. Drawing upon experiences from indigenous knowledge documentation projects in Indonesia as case studies, this paper explores the challenges of incorporating indigenous knowledge to Wikipedia and proposes some suggestions to achieve knowledge equity.","PeriodicalId":54386,"journal":{"name":"New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia","volume":"27 1","pages":"245 - 259"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2021-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/13614568.2021.1888320","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45175470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Major campaigns within the Wikipedia community attempt to reverse these disparities, largely by focusing on addressing “gaps” in the demographics of Wikipedia editors and by writing new articles about people and topics overlooked by the encyclopedia. However, many Wikipedia editors and observers have argued that the systemic biases of Wikipedia are inherent to current global distribution of knowledge production, and can only be overcome by changing the encyclopedia’s standards of inclusion. This article reframes this debate by comparing the project of “countering systemic bias” on Wikipedia with the effort within Western/Northern academia to decolonise and diversify scholarship. Since this project began at least fifty years ago, it has led to abundant peer-reviewed scholarship, all of which qualifies as “reliable sources” for Wikipedia articles. Anthropological scholarship has also overturned the social evolutionary narrative that often shapes popular perceptions of global history. The article proposes that critical scholarship, historical maps, and maps in contemporary scholarship can all contribute to addressing Wikipedia’s systemic biases.","PeriodicalId":54386,"journal":{"name":"New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia","volume":"27 1","pages":"207 - 228"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2021-01-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/13614568.2020.1865463","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41654641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was conducted as a randomized controlled study with single blind. The sample of the study consisted of 60 students enrolled in the course of Basic Principles and Practices in Nursing in Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli University. Students’ academic achievement levels and genders were considered in order to provide randomization in the assignment of students to experimental and control groups. The data of the study were collected using the “Nasogastric Tube Nutrition Practice Knowledge Test”, “Nasogastric Tube Attachment Skill Checklist”. The number, percentage, arithmetic mean and standard deviation were used in the evaluation of the data. The data obtained from the study were evaluated in SPSS. The mean scores of the students in the experimental group for the Nasogastric Tube Nutrition Practice Knowledge Test and Nasogastric Tube Attachment Skill Checklist were significantly higher than the control group (p < .05). It was found that the hypermedia method had a positive effect on knowledge, skill, self-assessment and motivation of nasogastric tube feeding in nursing education. For this reason, it is suggested to extend the use of the hypermedia method as a support to in-class teaching.","PeriodicalId":54386,"journal":{"name":"New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia","volume":"26 1","pages":"123 - 137"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2020-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48927379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is grounded in the uses and gratification perspective to examine five distinct types of stimuli for binge-viewing and short watching: enjoyment, efficiency, information seeking, social interaction, and relaxation. Results of the analyses demonstrate that enjoyment and efficiency are positively associated with the tendency toward binge-viewing. However, the inclination toward short watching is correlated to enjoyment, efficiency, social interaction, and information seeking, and relaxation was not predictive of either inclination. The study also contemplated loneliness and addiction as moderating variables for binge-viewing and short watching behaviour. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was employed to validate the moderating effects of these two psychological states. The SEM results of the two-group analysis revealed that loneliness and addiction affected motivation and influenced attitudes toward binge-viewing and short watching. The present study is one of the first attempts to verify and compare the media viewing behaviours of binge-watching and short watching. Thus, it can contribute substantially to a more comprehensive scholarly understanding of over-the-top consumption of audio-visual content.","PeriodicalId":54386,"journal":{"name":"New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia","volume":"26 1","pages":"93 - 122"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2020-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/13614568.2020.1865464","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42105187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, exploiting them in the educational field can promote communication and collaboration among students and instructors. Moreover, expanding them with more pedagogical tools, such as assessments and adaptivity, can improve further the learning outcomes. In view of the above, this paper presents i-LearnC#, an intelligent tutoring application over Facebook, for learning programming. This Facebook app extends the capabilities of Facebook platform to be used as an integrated tutoring system. In particular, i-LearnC# embodies an intelligent Virtual Coach offering individualised advice, covering students’ knowledge gaps and solving queries on unknown learning concepts. Regarding students’ assessment, i-LearnC# applies the Revised Bloom Taxonomy and delivers personalised assistance to them through the Virtual Coach. Finally, i-LearnC# employs cluster analysis for recommending the optimal groups for collaboration to students. i-LearnC# was evaluated using a well-known framework, the statistical hypothesis test and system's log files. The results are very promising, showing that i-LearnC# has been educationally beneficial to students in higher education promoting effective learning and teaching of computing education and achieving high acceptance rate as an adaptive intelligent social learning environment.","PeriodicalId":54386,"journal":{"name":"New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia","volume":"26 1","pages":"138 - 167"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2020-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/13614568.2021.1908436","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48256729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus we expect to identify investors’ motivation by exploring linguistic cues from project descriptions and examine what kinds of linguistic cues affect capital-giving decisions. Our research is based on self-determination theory, which falls human needs into one of two types, intrinsic motives or extrinsic motives. We create a word corpus and use it to classify the project descriptions into different motivations through text analytics. Finally, an econometric model is formulated to estimate the impact of investors’ motives on the fundraising success. Our empirical analyses demonstrate that the investors’ motivations for capital-giving vary in project categories. Furthermore, building relation and receiving gratitude are amongst the key determinants of investors’ involvement in crowdfunding, especially for community projects and creative works.","PeriodicalId":54386,"journal":{"name":"New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia","volume":"26 1","pages":"1 - 23"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/13614568.2020.1802518","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45141202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, the need to search multimedia documents with precision on the Web is persistently growing; pressing the demand for effective and efficient indexing strategies. In this article, we present an ontology-based multimedia indexing approach that cooperatively identifies the semantic and taxonomic relations that exist between annotation words that surround multimedia documents on Webpages. In this context, multiple ontologies are jointly employed for indexing each document. We construct inverted indexes in the form of semantic networks where nodes of each network are identified and added based on a majority-voting technique, while edges represent the semantic and taxonomic relations that hold between those nodes. To alleviate the heterogeneity between the resulting networks, we employ ontology merging algorithms to integrate them into consistent networks. We also utilise concept relatedness measures to enrich the networks with semantically-relevant entities that are not recognised by the used ontologies. To validate our proposal, we have developed a prototype system based on the proposed techniques. The produced results using real-world datasets demonstrate an improvement of the effectiveness against state-of-the-art baseline metrics.","PeriodicalId":54386,"journal":{"name":"New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia","volume":"26 1","pages":"24 - 54"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2020-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/13614568.2020.1745904","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44022465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The available solutions have tested the possibilities using static web pages which are not applicable in the real world for non-literate users because of the dynamism of the real world. In this research, a dynamic job search solution is presented for non-literate users of Pakistan. User Interface (UI) requirements were identified through an extensive literature review. The culturally specific content in the form of hand-drawn sketches, voice feedback, semi-illustrations was identified and incorporated in the job seekers (non-literate) module. The same module was evaluated by the non-literate and semi-literate participants in a field study as per the usability specification defined by ISO-9241-11. The results have shown that non-literate users could search for a job efficiently in the minimum task completion time as compared to the time reported in the previous literature. They were satisfied and motivated to use the website again to search for jobs. The results indicate a potential for designing ICT-based solutions to provide services to the non-literate users in developing countries.","PeriodicalId":54386,"journal":{"name":"New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia","volume":"25 1","pages":"288 - 314"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2019-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/13614568.2019.1694593","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44320406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Systems of this kind exploit the close relation between lexical knowledge and personality models – such as the well-known Big Five model – to provide information about the author of an input text in a non-intrusive fashion, and at a low cost. Although now a well-established research topic in the field, the computational recognition of personality traits from text still leaves a number of research questions worth further exploration. In particular, this paper attempts to shed light on three main issues: (i) whether we may develop psycholinguistics-motivated models of personality recognition when such knowledge sources are not available for the target language under consideration; (ii) whether the use of psycholinguistic knowledge may be still superior to contemporary word vector representations; and (iii) whether we may infer certain personality facets from a corpus that does not explicitly convey this information. In this paper these issues are dealt with in a series of individual experiments of personality recognition from Facebook text, whose initial results should aid the future development of more robust systems of this kind.","PeriodicalId":54386,"journal":{"name":"New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia","volume":"25 1","pages":"268 - 287"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2019-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/13614568.2020.1722761","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43757592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
