One of the major impediments faced by the sericulture community is the silkworm diseases that cause significant crop losses. In the present study, the efficacy of phototrophic bacteria as feed supplements in improving the economic traits as well as disease resistance in mulberry silkworm, Bombyx mori L. was assessed. A total of three phototrophic bacteria were isolated and identified as belonging to the genera Marichromatium, Rhodobacter and Rhodopseudomonas based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis. Their morphological, physiological and biochemical characters were studied, grown under ambient conditions and biomass was harvested. Mulberry fortified with the aforementioned phototrophic bacteria in solitude and combinations at varying concentrations (0.5, 1, 2 and 5%) were found to be innocuous to the mulberry silkworm. The best results were observed when mulberry leaf was supplemented with Rhodopseudomonas sp. at 2% concentration which improved survival, cocoon weight, shell weight, shell%, filament length and non-breakable filament length by 5.18, 0.27, 3.86, 3.5, 1.5 and 1.2%, respectively under normal rearing conditions. Under Staphylococcus sp. infected conditions, the aforesaid diet also enhanced survival in silkworms by 16%. On the other hand, the same diet didn’t exhibit any discernible influence on survival against fungal, viral, or microsporidian infections in silkworm.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45588035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the first time, a list of the taxa inhabiting the area is presented, which includes 11 genera belonging to eight families. The sites corresponding to the lower basin exhibited higher diversity, and the genus Rhagovelia was the most abundant in both hydrological seasons. In contrast, the upper basin exhibited a low diversity, and its assemblage was dominated by Ectemnostega, both in the wet and dry season. Significant differences in the diversity of aquatic and semiaquatic bugs at the temporal level were not found in this basin.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44503397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The composition and the structure of Chironomidae (Insecta: Diptera) along two short hill pristine streams and their relationship with the physicochemical variables were analyzed. A total of 15444 individuals belonging to 37 species of four subfamilies were identified. An assemblage structure more similar to those described for Andean or Argentine extra-Andean hill streams than to those of the surrounding Pampas was observed. Orthocladiinae showed the highest and Podonominae the lowest taxonomic richness and density. Chironominae was best represented downstream by genera with wide distribution. From the five Podonominae genera reported in the Andean-Patagonic region, three of them (Podonomus Philippi, Parochlus Enderlein and Podonomopsis Brundin) were collected. The presence of Podonomus and Podonomopsis represent the reports at lower altitudes for both genera. The physicochemical variables differed between seasons, and only water conductivity showed an altitudinal gradient. Those species prevailing in piedmont sites correlated positively with conductivity. With few exceptions, the species collected were recorded in both seasons. In Toro stream, density was significantly highest in Spring of the second year. This study provides the ecological and systematic baseline knowledge of an insect group widely used in biomonitoring of aquatic environments, to provide biological information that supports the importance of preserving this area.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49403789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Glyphidops flavifrons (Bigot), Nerius pilifer Fabricius, Nerius plurivittatus Bigot and Odontoloxozus longicornis (Coquillet) are new state records, while Cerantichir enderleini Henning and Glyphidops filosus (Fabricius) are recorded for the first time in Mexico. In order to evaluate species delimitation in Neriidae, 14 landmarks of wing of G. filosus and G. flavifrons were analized with geometric morphometrics. We found significant differences in wing size and wing shape, with evidence of alometric effect. The minimum post-mortem interval (PMImin) was estimated using growth and larval length parameters as the accurate entomological evidence of the elapsed time since death. Specimens were reared at 12, 14, 16, and 18 °C, and the larval and pupal growth rates were determined. Differences in the developmental times were registered (43.2 days at 12 °C, 34.3 days at 14 °C, 29.1 days at 16 °C, and 24.3 days at 18 °C), with the lifespan shortened at higher temperatures, without changing the larval length range (~1.5–18.0 mm). Temperature also influenced the survival and size of emerged adults; the highest percentage of survival registered at 14 (29.73%) and 16 °C (38.65%), and more mortality in extreme temperatures (19.00% at 12 °C and 12.61% at 18 °C). Adults reared at 12 °C were the largest of all, females were longer than males, and body size showed an inverse relationship with survival. These results allowed the PMI estimation based on data from local populations instead of consulting papers based on other regions.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49369511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
