The main reason for this is down to ideologically-conditioned stereotypes. The paper describes one such case involving hundreds of thousands of finds of one type of artefact, commonly classified as whetstones, pendants, amulets, etc., from the Chalcolithic up to the Early Middle Ages. The article\u0000emphasises that although touchstones from ancient burials had already been identified using an electron microscopy half a century ago, the interpretation of these finds corresponding to the paradigm from the early 19th century remains popular to this day. For the chemical microanalysis of metal traces preserved on the surface of these stone artefacts, samples were selected from Russian, Slovakian, Swedish and Ukrainian sites, from the Hallstatt period up to the Early Middle Ages, with special regard for their previous interpretation history. However, the main aim is to point out the symbolic role of tools used to test the value of precious metals outside the grave context. The oldest preserved structures date from the 16th century, and significant reconstruction work took place in the 18th century. However, the origin of the house is substantially older. The article presents the comprehensive results of an archaeological excavation performed in a pair of living rooms and in the courtyard of the homestead. In the stratified layers beneath today’s floors, it was possible to distinguish the remains of three consecutive medieval houses, the internal layout of which corresponded to the floor plan of today’s house. Two of these houses were destroyed by fire. Pottery dates the construction of the earliest house to the period between the second half of the 13th century and the first half of the 14th century. Úskalím jakékoliv interpretace jsou problémy spolehlivého odhadu věku dožití dospělých jedinců, které dovolují exaktní klasifikaci maximálně do tří širokých věkových tříd (např. do 30 let, od 30 do 60 let a starších 60 let). Možnosti nové intepretace úmrtnostního profilu vzhledem k modelové úmrtnosti archaických populací (e0 = 25 až 35 let) podle Ledermanna jsou uvedeny na příkladech tří recentních výzkumů (Praha-Lahovice, Janíky a Diváky – Padělky nad humny). Text upozorňuje na skutečnost, že paleodemografická analýza pohřebišť se provádí s cílem identifikace demografických anomálií, nikoliv pro zjištění jakýchkoliv přímých demografických charakteristik populačního vzorku. Druhá část příspěvku se věnuje revizi pohlaví a věku dožití u jedinců dvou mikulčických pohřebišť (u 3. a 6. kostela), od jejichž prvního zpracování uplynulo půlstoletí. Naše výsledky ukázaly konzistenci výsledků odhadu pohlaví, nikoliv věku dožití. Machová, Alžběta Pchálková-Bártová","doi":"10.35686/ar.2019.24","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35686/ar.2019.24","url":null,"abstract":"This paper presents an overview of the latest information about the beginnings of the technology of pottery making in the area of the forest-steppe belt in Siberia and the Russian part of Eastern Europe all the way to the Ural Mountains. From a continental point of view, a brief spatiotemporal diagram presents a completely different background of the beginnings of pottery in our lands and also in corresponding parts of Southeast Europe, where the origin of pottery has traditionally been linked to the Neolithisation of Europe. The earliest pottery technology in China dates back to 20 000 BP, followed by all the subsequent data from the Far East area to Lake Baikal. The earliest pottery culture, Jomon, which had been developing in Japan for more than ten thousand years, is not included here. In the Russian part of Eastern Europe, pottery technology starts developing only after 8 000 BP. Typologically uniform and mostly unchangeable development of beaker-shaped pottery, mostly with a pointed bottom, is common for both these areas. This development continues in Scandinavia and adjacent areas of the Baltic and in Atlantic Europe. In the central parts of Europe, similar shapes only occur sporadically in the earliest period. However, the earliest Eurasian pottery had influenced the development of later prehistoric periods. Numerous settlement groups on the Eurasian continents were characterised by two traditions that are archaeologically recognisable.
