However, the analysis of spatial disparity of pharmacies in Virginia is lacking. To fill this research gap, we employed both statistical and geospatial methods to examine the pharmacy disparity and desert issues in Virginia. These methods include correlation, stepwise regression, average nearest neighbor analysis, network analysis, and geographically weighted regression (GWR). We examined five vulnerable populations and their accessibility to pharmacies. These subpopulations include racial minorities (defined as non-white population in this study), persons with income below poverty level, older adults (age 65+), persons with disability, and households without vehicles. We found that spatial inequity of pharmacies exists in Virginia. At the statewide macro level, the spatial distribution of older adults is, largely, correlated with that of pharmacies. However, as revealed by GWR at local levels, the spatial pattern of pharmacy distribution is much more complicated, exhibiting both spatial inequity and social inequity (especially racial inequity, which is ubiquitous in Virginia). Pharmacies may be adequate for certain groups of people, but simultaneously inadequate for others.","PeriodicalId":54010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Urban and Regional Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47423905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To pursue this agenda, however, it is necessary to facilitate cooperation between actors, agendas, and urban policies at the local-neighborhood level to enable the progressive transformation that the Agenda projects. The objective of this paper is to propose a methodology that translates these SDGs to the local-neighborhood scale and apply it to \"Barrio Virgen de Lourdes\", located in San Juan province, Argentina. The study was carried out in a participatory manner, in conjunction with community, academic, and governmental actors. As a result, Urban Sustainability Indicators and action strategies according to neighborhood SDGs were obtained. In addition, a Sustainable Development Index was designed to assess the impact of actions on the realization of the SDGs at different levels of government. This methodology represents an effective tool to contribute to sustainable development and social inclusion.","PeriodicalId":54010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Urban and Regional Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46179252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Development goals, priorities and strategies need to be based on available (local) resources, which are identified as either comparative advantages or uniform development goals at a certain planning level. This paper presents a novel analytical framework for the Rural Development Programme of the South Transdanubian Region (Hungary) for the period of 2021-2027. Descriptive, cross tabulations and indicators of spatial autocorrelation were applied to the number of projects supported under the Rural Development sub-measures in 2014-2020. Large variation was observed in the LEADER development areas, and we confirmed that the pull effect of the regional centres is unclear. The results warn on the location-determined peripheries in the region. Agriculture oriented, even small settlements are better acceptors of rural development funds than other clusters of resource availability.","PeriodicalId":54010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Urban and Regional Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44548189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By removing the need to commute, home-based work has the potential to advance the New Urbanism aspirations of walkable neighbourhoods in an urban village format where people live, work and play. Nonetheless, the uneven distribution of this emerging work practice, strongly associated with the socio-economic status of neighbourhoods, is exacerbating the risk of increased urban inequalities. This paper presents pre- and post-COVID data for the City of Gold Coast, Australia, and it discusses the urban distribution of home-based work by analysing the home-based workers’ locational preferences, their daily movement patterns, the preferred built environment outcomes, and the urban design features. The findings suggest that certain social and economic interactions tend to increase with the growth of remote work. These interactions, magnified by the COVID pandemic, offer opportunities to advance the New Urbanism aspirations of cohesive, walkable communities and neighbourhoods.","PeriodicalId":54010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Urban and Regional Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49106451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to find out the community response to disaster mitigation efforts that have been carried out in the hope that the programs remain evaluable, more targeted and more relevant to community needs. This research was conducted by a survey method using questionnaire and interviews and by quantitative-descriptive research data analysis. The results showed that the level of community understanding of disaster mitigation was very good, and the community participation was quite good, but the relevance of the mitigation activities conducted was felt to be still not meeting the community expectations and they have to achieve a desirable level of sustainability. Therefore, a greater level of community involvement in mitigation activities is required to create disaster preparedness and resilient villages.","PeriodicalId":54010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Urban and Regional Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46399151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data collection tools are statistical documents and questionnaires. Indices examined contain 26 demographic, economic, environmental, infrastructure, health, and security-defense indices. To analyze the data, the statistical methods of spatial autocorrelation of Moran and Ripley's K function were used. The results show that centralization in the demographic, economic, and political dimensions of Tehran as capital city, along with the natural threats and crises such as floods and earthquakes, has led to underdevelopment and environmental issues. In addition, the unequal distribution of services in the provinces of the country and the centralization of services and facilities in the capital has raised the need to move the capital as a strategy. In this strategy, the government should pay more attention to the country's macroeconomics, especially the per capita GDP, including as well long-term forecasts and development plans for the provinces because only macroeconomic stability can lead to more stable economics in all parts of the country. Under such circumstances, any policy regarding the relocation of the capital will be easier in the future, and the economic and political stability of the country will not be disrupted.","PeriodicalId":54010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Urban and Regional Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46585655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to its transformation speed, there is limited knowledge regarding the spatiotemporal changes of these interstitial territories. Calculating landscape metrics in high resolution satellite images, this research analyses spatiotemporal transformations in the Metropolitan District of Quito urban-rural gradient, testing a novel and accurate method to identify urbanization tendencies. The results evidence the main role that new road-infrastructures have had in the urban expansion. Also, the analyses identify significant changes in agricultural coverages (related to rural lots subdivision) and the processes of vegetation fragmentation, evidencing the environmental fragility of these territories in transformation. Finally, the Markov chains modelling technique was applied, exploring the landscape change probabilities in the following years. This methodology can be particularly useful in land-use planning policies since it provides precise knowledge about the main tendencies of urbanization.","PeriodicalId":54010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Urban and Regional Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47852231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this paper is to analyse the distribution of development and of accessibility to written culture in the urban-rural interface (U-RI) of Bucharest, Romania, to assess their correlation and the impact of the current pandemic crisis. Based on the population’s perception regarding their accessibility to written culture through the application of over 200 questionnaires, the analysis showed that bookstores and libraries are mostly competitors. The number of readers and read books is decreasing in the U-RI due to the lack of prioritization of these services by the local authorities, as reflected in a general decreasing trend of the number of written culture users. The consumption of literature in new formats contributes to less place-dependent cultural services, especially in the high-income areas, while the Principal Component Analysis of cultural data demonstrates a clustering of localities in the U-RI that is strongly correlated with the economic and demographic characteristics of those areas. However, despite the increased accessibility to online, non-place-dependent written culture, the numbers of books read and bought in both physical and digital format had a generally decreasing trend during the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":54010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Urban and Regional Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43681603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The inverse model is to be used for planning decisions today to achieve the desired tomorrow. This approach has been used previously in urban planning with a property system. The use of a property system alone is insufficient in dealing with the complexity of urban systems. Complex systems are made up of sub-systems that interact with each other; the integration of two sub-systems offers a first and simple alternative to address the complexity of urban systems. We suggest the use of two parametric approaches, logistic regression and house price, to model land and property sub-systems, respectively. Finally, we stress that further studies are needed to integrate the inverse model with other statistical techniques that also deal with complexity, such as cellular automata (CA) or agent-based models.","PeriodicalId":54010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Urban and Regional Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-01-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49255747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vegetable production areas in the Bangkok’s peri-urban area have been at risk for changing due to the influences of urbanization. This study on the prime vegetable production areas in Bangkok, Thawi Watthana district, aimed to: 1) understand and determine the land use changes to these areas, 2) clarify the landscape configurations of these areas to assess landscape fragmentation, 3) discuss and recommend land use planning policies and measures to conserve the existing peri-urban agricultural landscape. A geographic information system (GIS) database and three thematic map layers (land use, waterways, and roads) were created and analyzed to clarify land use proportions, changes in the vegetable production areas, and the land configurations during different periods from 1976 to 2015. The Spatial Analyst in the ArcGIS 10.3 program was utilized. The results showed that vegetable production areas in the district decreased at a rate of 20.38 ha/y, even though the district was designated as an agricultural area in the Bangkok’s land use planning policies. The fragmentation of the vegetable production matrix (indicated by patch number, patch density, and mean patch size) increased due to the immediate effect of the expanded road network construction and due to a later consequence of the contiguous roadside urban development. The remaining vegetable production areas were mostly away from the primary road leading to the Bangkok center city. The monitoring system on the fragmentation of agricultural lands is essential as a database to find suitable measures to control urban sprawl in various cities.","PeriodicalId":54010,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Urban and Regional Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-01-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43590994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
