Determination of the plate modified dynamic characteristics is a quite laborious task, especially in the non-linear regime, which is rarely treated in the literature. The added mass effect on the plate linear parameters was first examined using Hamilton’s principle and spectral analysis. The modified plate's non-linear fundamental mode was then calculated and its non-linear response to high levels of harmonic excitation was determined. The non-linear formulation, involving a fourth order tensor due to the membrane forces induced in the plate mid-plane by large vibration amplitudes, led to a non-linear algebraic amplitude equation. The iterative solution gave the free vibration case a better qualitative understanding and a quantitative evaluation of the effect of the added mass. The non-linear forced response of the modified plate, examined for a wide frequency range, shows that the added eccentric mass induces changes in the area between the mass location and the simple supports and decreases the non-linear hardening effect. The numerical results, covering new situations, are expected to be useful in engineering applications necessitating for some reason the addition to the plate of a point mass or an adaptation of the plate frequencies in order to avoid the occurrence of undesirable resonances.","PeriodicalId":53603,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Applied and Theoretical Mechanics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46838802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All physical parameters (temperature, pressure speed and mechanical characteristics, and tribological conditions change over time), heat from friction generated at the interface, and temperature may exceed the critical value. All these problems that allowed us to do this study which concerns the numerical simulation by finite elements of a mechanical torque in dry sliding contact with motor vehicle disk/brake pads at the moment of stop braking using the ANSYS calculation code 14.5 which is based on the finite element method with its friction contact management algorithms. This behavior was analyzed in the transient case in terms of equivalent stresses and deformations (Von Mises) as a function of the braking conditions ( the type of loading, the speed of rotation of a disk, the pressure force applied to the brake pads, the coefficient of friction between the disk and the pads), and the thermal conditions (the temperature of the disk, and the heat flux in the disk, and the heat exchange by convection over the entire surface of the disk), the geometrical characteristics of the disk pads assembly and the position of the pads with respect to the brake disk and the mechanical parameters assembly and the position of the pads with respect to the brake disk and the mechanical parameters ( Young’s modulus, density, Poisson coefficient). This analysis allows us to see the behavior of the disk and the pads in contact and to recognize these damages in order to find the optimal technological solutions that will meet the needs of the engineer responsible for the design of the braking system, in particular the disk-pads torque, and to improve this system and make it more reliable and for an optimal and economical choice of the disk and pads well resist heat.","PeriodicalId":53603,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Applied and Theoretical Mechanics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47316270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Neglecting the overall friction, the application of Newton’s second law shows that the oscillation of the pendulum is continuously converted into oscillating linear motion thus achieving a travel of infinite length. It is also shown that the frequency depends on the usual data of any pendulum plus the mass of the cart on which it is attached. After the determination of a novel effective pendulum length, a closed-form accurate analytical expression is presented for the amplitude of the pendulum, whereas semi-analytical formulas are provided for the period as well as the time-variation of the large azimuthal-like angle. Moreover, a simple expression was found for the position of the cart in terms of the azimuthal angle of the pendulum and the elapsed time. The extraction of the analytical formulas was facilitated by a computer model programmed in MATLAB®.","PeriodicalId":53603,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Applied and Theoretical Mechanics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49611745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Experiments of the wind loads acting on these buildings provide vital information to design secure structures and adverse weather conditions resistants, considering the basic parameters as roof slopes and the wind direction. This study estimated the distribution of wind pressures around the contour of buildings with gable roofs, considering diverse neighborhood conditions, namely the number and geometric configuration of buildings on the ground, in conjunction with the different angles of wind incidence and topography. The simulations took place with Ansys Workbench software, and the RNG K-Epsilon turbulence model and tetrahedral mesh were employed. The application validation of the CFD technique occurred in the double-sloped pitched roof structure. The results showed good concordance with the literature. The pressure coefficients were analyzed, as well, in the flow visualization, highlighting the attachment points and the recirculation zones.","PeriodicalId":53603,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Applied and Theoretical Mechanics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44042782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a random walk algorithm with a restart in the heterogeneous network based on module partition and a gravity-like method (RWRHNMGL) for identifying AD essential genes. The phenotype-gene heterogeneous network (PGHN) is constructed from multiple data sources by considering similar information. These nodes of the optimal module, selected by module partition and covering most functions of AD gene networks, are taken as gene seeds. A refined random walk algorithm is developed to work in the PGHN, the transition matrix is modified by adding a gravity-like method based on subcellular location information, and candidate genes are scored and ranked by a stable probability vector. Finally, the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) and Mean Reciprocal Rank is used to evaluate the prediction results of RWRHNMGL. The results show that the RWRHNMGL algorithm performs better in predicting essential genes of AD.","PeriodicalId":53603,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Applied and Theoretical Mechanics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49001284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The simple crank rocker inversion is selected, and the kinematic design of the four-bar mechanism is done by keeping in view the Grashof rotatability criteria and the dynamic design required factoring in the forces acting on various links. The flywheel is designed to minimize the fluctuations in the torque required to drive the mechanism. DE-ASME Elliptic criteria is used for the shaft design and selection of bearing. For transmitting power from the AC motor to the crankshaft, a V belt and a pulley are used as the belt helps dampen the vibration effects in the mechanism. The linkages were fabricated, and the mechanism was assembled. ADXL335 accelerometer sensor is mounted on the apparatus to measure the acceleration of a point on the coupler. This acceleration data was then integrated using numerical techniques to estimate velocity and displacement. The model changes can be adjusted according to the dimensions of the bars and angles between the bars to simulate the performance of the mechanism. Due to the inherent offset in the sensor, an error was included in the data. However, the results obtained using such methods were satisfactory in visualizing the behaviour of data representing the system’s motion under running conditions. The errors in the result can be minimized using more advanced integration techniques and sensitive sensors for measurement and instrumentation. This research aims to contribute vital research knowledge for developing sustainable four-bar dynamic testing mechanisms.","PeriodicalId":53603,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Applied and Theoretical Mechanics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45980452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
