The research methods used include conceptual analysis, dictionary and thesaurus analysis, discourse analysis, comparative analysis and the analytico-descriptive method. The article defines the scope of the conceptual domain and shows that it contains a large number of categories and subcategories that can be grouped into 22 thematic classes representing various aspects of a person’s character and attitude to other people and entities. The categories are expressed in discourse by numerous lexemes (nouns and adjectives) and phrases. It is shown that some of the categories, most notably those pertaining to a person’s attitude to norms of civilized behaviour, have a much greater number of means of expression than others. The findings contribute to the studies of the English language worldview and comparative analysis of different language worldviews. The findings can also be used in the cognitive studies of lexemes, synonyms and translation.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67638060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the work is to consider the features of this media genre, to identify conceptually significant objects of reality represented in creative practices, to establish typical ways of their evaluative conceptualization. The use of the method of discourse analysis of video content with stand-up comedies made it possible to establish the following conceptually significant objects of reality interpreted in a comic way: family relations, characteristic features of life in different countries and cities, problems of gender relations, people's appearance, health, everyday problems, communicative situations. As a result of the analysis of the facts of the Russian-language stand-up presented on the YouTube media platform we identified various creative communicative practices: reducing the situation to an absurdity or paradox, self-irony, hyperbolization, indirect evaluative characterization of the object of ridicule by referring to precedent phenomena and others. A comedian can be attributed to a strong discursive personality, who is distinguished by the cognitive ability to explicate in speech the general presuppositional fund of the audience to create such a stage image that the public will like and who will be able to cause an emotional reaction. In self-realization, a stand-up comedian skillfully uses presuppositional knowledge about what facts, situations, and speech style arouse public interest and lead to a pragmatic effect. The results obtained can be used in research on cognitive pragmatics, included in the study of modern humorous media discourse.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67638080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis draws on the methods of cognitive discourse analysis, narratology, pragmatics, and semantics. Accepting R. Barthes’ view of the photograph as “a message without a code”, we hold that the main goal of art discourse is to construct an intermediary code to facilitate communication between the Operator and the Spectator, especially in the presence of a time/culture gap between the two. Through aesthetic distancing, art reviewers shift the axiological focus from the ethical implications of Soviet photographs towards their aesthetic value, encouraging a transcultural and transtemporal dialogue between the reader/viewer and the photographer. The analysis has enabled us to expand the framework of photographic roles (Operator, Spectrum and Spectator) suggested by Barthes and later complemented with the role of the Demonstrator, which is central to this study. The role of the Emptor, added here to the Barthian set of core roles, emerges as the ultimate role of the Soviet state vis-à-vis photography.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67636227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is shown how a secondary conceptualization of zoonyms included in phraseological units determines the transmission of knowledge about people by analyzed phraseological units. The authors provide the interpretive potential of zoonyms in conceptualizing phraseological units by referring to the conceptual domain ANIMAL (BIRD). The conceptual domain of ANIMAL (BIRD) is represented as a general cognitive matrix, including a number of cognitive contexts. The paper defines the main cognitive models of forming the semantics of the considered phraseological units. The study shows that the most important role in this process is played by metaphorical models, as well as the cognitive comparison models. These models do not exhaust the possible ways of rethinking knowledge about animals to transmit information about people, which is proved by the examples of metonymy and metaphtonymy.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67636658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concept MERCY and the concept scenario are connected by cognitive-associative links due to the tasks assigned to the respondents. The revealed conceptual features of the two concepts are the basis for dividing all responses into three levels: full conceptual correspondence, incomplete conceptual correspondence and lack of conceptual correspondence. The relevance lies in the need to study, on the one hand, the concept of MERCY, which causes difficulty in understanding, and on the other hand, the relevant concept scenario, which is formed due to the activation of associative-cognitive links and has a linguistic representation. The difficulty in understanding the concept MERCY is connected with the ambiguity of its interpretation in lexicographic sources with the lack of clarity in interpreting mercy in Russian Biblical texts. The aim of the work is to identify the levels of conceptual correspondence between the established conceptual features in the linguistic expression of the concept MERCY and conceptual features in the linguistic expression of the concept scenario based on the coincidence or discrepancy of features. Matching features form a cognitive construct. Research methods: the questionnaire method allows us to get the students answers, that are then analyzed to identify the main features of the concept MERCY; the method of quantitative counting and ranking the opportunity to find out the main conceptual features encoded in the everyday consciousness of respondents; the method of conceptual analysis; the method of identifying conceptual correspondence leads to the identification of three levels of correspondence depending on the degree of coincidence or discrepancy of conceptual features found when we analyzed the responses of the students, lexicographic sources of the Russian language and the sources of Orthodox culture. The novelty of the work consists in the fact that a methodology is being developed to establish a conceptual correspondence between the concept and the concept-scenario, in which overlapping conceptual features are detected or not detected. As a result of the conducted research, the unstable structure of the concept MERCY is determined, which is established by the transformation of conceptual features and does not have an unambiguous interpretation in lexicographic sources. The main and only coded feature in the everyday consciousness of the subjects was the feature of ‘help’ (the third part of the students (30.86%)). A small percentage (14, 81%) of the students offered two features of ‘help’ and ‘compassion’. A third of the students (32.12%) could not describe their understanding of the concept MERCY. The paper examines the functional and semantic features and means of linguistic representation of numbers, special attention is paid to some cases of numerical prejudices and stereotypes. The relevance of the research topic is determined by the increasing scientific interest to the Japanese culture, which, having formed original national traditions, strictly protects them. The main methods of work are comparative analysis, linguocultural commentary, descriptive method to identify features on the basis of which the meaning of the word is built. An analysis of numerous examples made it possible to explicate the spiritual, sacred significance of numbers. The authors have come to conclusions that the linguistic and semiotic characteristics of numbers in the Japanese language are largely determined by the homophones. Homonymy attaches secondary connotative meanings to numbers, endows them with some sacred or symbolic meaning. It has been revealed that the numbers “three”, “five”, “seven”, “eight” are considered the most significant in the Japanese linguistic culture, forming a branched system of secondary meanings, connotations and associations.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67637854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dominant language units that represent this sense are conditional clauses. In the German language there are some conjunctions with conditional sense making the meaning of subordinate clauses variable: wenn, falls, sofern, wenn also . The purpose of the paper is to find out conceptual variability that indicates the interpretation modus of conditionality. Realizing this purpose, the author uses the principle of situation performing that allows to differentiate subconcepts of CONDITIONALITY in the German linguistic culture. The semantics of clauses depends on the semantics of the conjunctions. Following its etymology, the conjunction falls is connected with the verb fallen and the noun der Fall . Both indicate the component ‘moving down’ in their meaning. In German the subconcept represented by the conjunction falls implies especially marked situations that are unexpected or undesired. The conjunction sofern is etymologically connected with the preposition in that indicates some restricted room. That’s why the clauses connected with sofern denote some restriction of situations. The conjunction wenn also is complex, so in this case we have to do with complex cognitive activity. The first step of this activity is to summarize the pretext content by the component also , the second step is to change the summarized content by the component wenn into a condition, so that clauses sign especially marked summarized conditional situations. In the structure of CONDITIONALITY the author distinguishes between the center represented by wenn -clauses and the periphery represented by the following conjunctions whose interpretation modus is specific: falls indicates the modus of unexpected or undesired condition , sofern signs the modus of restriction and wenn also the modus of resuming. The outlook provides researching of other modus concepts that are represented by subordinate clauses connected with other conjunctions.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67637940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relevance of this study is determined by the increasing need to discover how conflict-free verbal interaction can be realized, and what risks such communication involves when using phraseological units. The aim of the study is to establish aspects of the information about human appearance represented by phraseological units and to discover the degree of success of communication involving their use, i.e., the degree of conflictogenicity of these units in the context. The main research methods are conceptual and definitional analysis and the method of cognitive modeling. The conducted research made it possible to identify metaphorical, metonymic, metaphthonymic cognitive models and cognitive models of comparison, used to create the analyzed phraseological units, to identify the characteristics on the basis of which the comparison and metonymic, metaphorical or metaphthonymic transfers are carried out. Having considered phraseological units functioning in different contexts, we came to the conclusion that phraseological units with a negative connotation can neutralize it in certain contexts without revealing their conflictogenic potential, while phraseological units with a positive connotation are able to become potentially conflict units in certain contexts.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67638082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concept content and its structure are determined by learning dictionary definitions of the word “taste”, attributes “sweet”, “sour”, “bitter”, “salt” and by analyzing the evaluative component of the contexts. The results of the research may help to understand the English-speaking people’s mental world peculiarities, as the best way of describing the nature of the concept is provided by the language units, the lexeme “taste” being one of them. The aim of the work is to identify and systematically describe the features of the verbal part of creolized messages in the format of direct and native advertising, which are focused on the addressee with fundamental changes in the cognitive style and the mechanism of perceiving linear text. The sources of the research are the Russian editions of periodical international glossy magazines of various thematic, age and gender orientation published in 2018-2021. The methods of studying the language material are descriptive-analytical, communicative-pragmatic, comparative methods and the method of contextual analysis. As a result of the study, a set of specific tools and techniques were identified that ensure the retention of the recipient’s attention with fragmentary mosaic perception, the speed of decoding information, its compression, segmentation, visualization. It is noted that the verbal component of direct advertising messages tends to minimize and is distinguished by the primitivization of the syntactic structures, the constant switching of the language code, and the regular inclusion of hashtags. The verbal component of advertising texts in the native advertising format is characterized by an increased volume and hybridity of nature, uses language units that create short-lived emotionally expressive and aesthetically perfect images, means that cause positive associations and ensure switching the recipient’s attention (intertexts, bisubstantial sentences, question-answer complexes, perceptual vocabulary, etc.).
