The authors analyze results of questioning the teenagers comparing two different levels of coding information. The aim of the work is to develop a methodology for establishing a conceptual correspondence between a secondary emotion as a concept and a concept-scenario, which is based on cognitive-associative connections. The novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time the mechanism of forming a cognitive construct, including secondary emotions and semantically similar concepts-scenarios, is analyzed, and the levels of conceptual correspondence are established in the groups of hearing and with impaired hearing respondents. The methods to fulfill the tasks are: the method of questioning, which helps to collect reliable data in each group of subjects; the method of quantitative counting and ranking, which helps to bring the result to the identification of the range of values obtained; the comparison method is also used in identifying coincidences and differences in the results of two groups. The methodological algorithm of establishing a conceptual correspondence between a concept as secondary emotion and a concept-scenario is developed and consists of methods: the method of lexical analysis, the method of comparison of qualitative interactions when establishing a conceptual correspondence. Then conceptual correspondence is revealed according to three levels: complete conceptual correspondence, incomplete conceptual correspondence, lack of conceptual correspondence. The results show the main nomination of secondary emotion “fear” revealed in two groups, the situation from the past experience (concept scenario) being the same as a description connected with being at altitude. Teenagers with the 1st and 2nd degree of deafness were able to establish cognitive-association links and, therefore, showed the ability to form a cognitive construct consisting of a nominated secondary emotion as a concept and concept-scenario. The teenagers with hearing impairments of the 3rd and 4th degrees didn’t cope with the task in establishing cognitive association links, since more serious hearing impairments seem to lead to impaired formation of cognitive-association connections and, as a result, cognitive constructs. Accordingly, the formation of cognitive construct makes it possible to speak of a connection between a newly-learned phenomenon and past experience. The cognitive construct is established on the basis of the actualization of secondary emotion in two concepts. The data obtained can be used to correct and regulate cognitive-associative links between the concept and the similar concept-scenario.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67636604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, the Swales’ CARS model and systemic functional linguistics were deployed. All data analysis and their interpretations were included in the umbrella of qualitative approach with the assistance of simple descriptive statistics. Results showed that there were 3 moves and 17 steps found with few consecutive sequences identified among them. Moreover, the patterns of move steps characterized as high, low, conventional, and optional were also observed. As for the realization of ideational meaning, based on transitivity analysis of move steps, there were 5 processes spotted with relational process dominating and existential the least. Furthering this, the present study has implications both in practical and theoretical domains.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"70 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67636652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Internet meme macros (151 items) - polycode text-combinations of a static picture and an inscription - were selected by the main query in the Google and Yandex search engines using the phrases “media manipulation memes”, “memes on media manipulation” and “manipulation in media memes”. Additionally, the paper takes into account the material from 165 Internet meme texts on the query “Facebook down memes” after the large-scale disruption of the social network Facebook and affiliated resources in October 2021, as well as 60 meme texts dedicated to the renaming of Facebook to Meta. Methodologically, the study is the identification of coordination patterns as manifestations of the results of collective comprehension and evaluation of significant events and phenomena. A functional-semantic analysis of the elements that make up the meme (iconic and verbal) is carried out, and their interaction is looked into, so that after meaningful interpretation the selected material could be divided into thematic groups according to what repeated patterns of argumentation are in the selected material and how they are marked by the specific use of linguistic and visual means. Thus, the set of the memes in question is analyzed to see how it concentrates and articulates the most important ideas of the audience as their collective creator about a particular problem. Thus, we think it possible to speak of at least four coordination patterns, however, being aware that this division is rather arbitrary, as they intersect. Nevertheless, it is theoretically possible to talk about 1) the basic understanding of the media as a source of manipulation that needs to be resisted and the three clarifying patterns of reasoning that manipulation is realized through 2) selectivity in the presentation of information; 3) verbal twisting; 4) playing on the emotions of the audience, causing users to lose money and personal data or to become involved in some activity against their will.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67636665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors attempt to describe the language means of quantity interpretation at different linguistic levels to show the level peculiarities of quantity interpretation in each case. To prove that the process of linguistic quantity interpretation is integrative and multiple-factor at different language levels, the authors execute the analysis of the quantitative meanings and senses formed by the lexical and grammatical (morphological) linguistic units of quantitative semantics. Cognitive and linguistic mechanisms of quantity interpretation as well as additional linguistic factors of quantitative sense formation receive consideration. Thus, the paper presents the findings concerning the specificity of each level in the process of quantity interpretation. Studying the processes of linguistic quantity interpretation in modern English, we employ the cognitive approach that allows assessing the role of a person in both, comprehension of the quantitative characteristics of the world and formation of the quantitative meanings and senses in the language system. To provide an account of the issues under study we address the theories worked out within the framework of cognitive linguistics by Russian and foreign scholars: cognitive semantics, conceptualization, representation and linguistic interpretation.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67636838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experiment involved 44 Chinese and 30 Russian university students, who were asked to read a text and create questions about it, which provided diagnostic markers of their cognitive styles. The cognitive strategies used by the students were evaluated as analytic / synthetic and abstract / concrete. The statistic processing revealed that the Chinese students tend to rely on the surface structures of the text, to focus on details and to think figuratively. By contrast, the Russian respondents are more likely to rely on the macrostructures of the text, its logic and composition. The results suggest that the cognitive strategies of reading comprehension are influenced by the national practice of teaching reading and culture-related attitudes.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67637019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article deals with the with the elements of scientific discourse functioning in English literary texts. The research aims at revealing correspondences between scientific notions and literary concepts constituting the author's world view. As the article shows, being the elements of discourse, the mental structures determine the procedures of generation and interpretation of the literary fiction text. Viewed from the cognitive aspect, such procedures consist in constituting a new cognitive image of the world on the basis of various discourse markers (scientific terms, syntactic patterns, etc.). Considering the semantic potential of scientific discourse markers, the author reveals the influence of the scientific worldview on the author’s world view. The analysis of text fragments enables the author to conclude that the study of discourse interaction can prove useful in text analysis as it may help in revealing the specificity of an author’s world view and a reader’s interpretation of the text. The realized perspective of the research allows us to reveal an important line of interaction between the scientific and literary world views.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67637608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Historical discourse is a set of knowledge, opinions, views and assessments of historical events, facts that occurred in certain periods, under certain social, economic and political conditions. As an example, we considered the text fragment from the English-language scientific historical book. The analysis was carried out from the standpoint of contextual, semantic, definitional and conceptual approaches. It is established that in the process of describing the historical concept “war forecast”, the author’s conceptual system interacts with military, technical, socio-economic, psychological, geographical types of discourses. At the end of the article, it is concluded that interdiscursive interaction makes it possible to identify new characteristics, better present the idea of the described concept, identify other phenomena and concepts associated with it and trace the author’s assessment. In general, applying the cognitive linguistics research approaches to the analysis of integrated knowledge, one can receive a more accurate and complete understanding of a certain concept content in an effort to obtain true knowledge.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67637723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Within the framework of this cluster, the lexical categories “clothing”, “shoes”, “hats”, “accessories”, “jewelry” are considered. The study is carried out on the material of lexicographic and folklore sources. The lexemes that make up the cluster “clothes” are for the first time comprehensively analyzed in a comparative aspect in the context of national and cultural traditions as elements of the cultural code of an ethnic group. In the course of the research, such methods as dictionary definition analysis, distributive analysis, cluster analysis, conceptual analysis, and the comparative method are used. The high informative potential of the names of clothes, shoes, hats, accessories and jewelry in the aspect of national and cultural specificity, the richness of associative-semantic connections, symbolic meanings, a wide range of connotative meanings make this vocabulary an important element of the cultural code of the nation. In the cultural traditions of both peoples, clothing acts as a marker of a person’s belonging to a certain social group, indicates people’s gender, age, marital status, and the level of their material well-being.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67637777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of the paper is to explore the discursive mechanisms of the world-modelling in the virtual communication about the working migrants. The term ‘discourse-world of labor migration’ is introduced and used to denote a representational structure, textualized in the digital communication about the migrants from Central Asia, arriving in Russian cities in search of work. The research corpus contains posts retrieved from the Telegram channels. The selection includes 1247 contexts in the period from 2019 to 2022. The referential aspect is central to the research. We argued that four categories of social actors are identified in the discourse-world - migrant workers, local residents, authorities, beneficiaries, each category being analyzed in terms of discourse construal. We proved that the evaluation of the labour migrants is mainly negative. The author analyzed the relationships between the social actors through the reference of noun groups and predicates. The results of the research might present interest to discourse analysts for further investigation of the specifics of cognitive-discursive world-modelling.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67637848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The interdisciplinary approach implemented in the study enabled the authors to integrate the research of the problem in a new discipline, i.e. textual complexology viewed as an integral research paradigm focused on assessment of objective and individual complexity of text. Textual complexology provides methods and develops tools of text leveling thus empowering the process of selecting texts appropriate for a specific reader. During the two periods of its timeline, i.e. before and after computer technologies, textual complexology accumulated numerous linguo-mathematical, cognitive, and machine learning methods of text complexity assessment and text leveling. The latter are based on linguo-cognitive abilities of readers and their readiness to be exposed to texts of certain complexity. The research results can be implemented in various pragmalinguistic situations to predict text readability dependency on certain age, year of schooling, and professional specialization.","PeriodicalId":53482,"journal":{"name":"Voprosy Kognitivnoy Lingvistiki","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67636113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
