The study reveals that –itis is a highly productive suffix in meta(-linguistic) discourses of the online-encyclopaedia: Wikipedia authors using word formation products with the suffix –itis (e. g. Newstickeritis or WhatsAppitis) try to standardise the collaborative knowledge production with the help of these linguistic innovations. The corpus analysis delivers evidence for the fact that certain linguistic innovations and special types of word formation characterise the community of Wikipedia authors and their discourse traditions. Thereby, this paper contributes to the discussion about digital discourse analysis of natively digital data taking stock of the Wikipedia corpora in the German Reference Corpus (Deutsches Referenzkorpus). The peculiarities of Wikipedia's data will be explained, modes of analysis discussed and the challenges of the suggested integration of morphology and discourse linguistics will be explored.","PeriodicalId":53445,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur Angewandte Linguistik","volume":"2018 1","pages":"35 - 72"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/ZFAL-2018-0003","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44541381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to a corpus-based typology of the practices used in this context, a qualitative analysis of case studies from the Bundestag election campaign 2017 shows that satirical-playful, thematic-discursive and successive (and thus complex) alienation practices are carried out during poster busting. Depending on the respective practices, this can lead to differently pronounced blend of text pattern, i. e. Textmustermischungen (Fix 2008a), which are characterized by a change in content and function. Thus, the function of CAMPAIGNING, which is written into the original poster, is surpassed by that of CRITICISING which not only questions the individual poster but also the communicative power relations in the public space.","PeriodicalId":53445,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur Angewandte Linguistik","volume":"2018 1","pages":"3 - 33"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/ZFAL-2018-0002","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43716286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Scientists develop new theories and methods and discard old ones. Thus, scientific disciplines can be considered as a result of negotiations within the scientific community. The paper focuses on the following questions: Which theories, methods and sub-disciplines do scientists regard as part of a scientific discipline? How do scientists label and define these theories, methods and sub-disciplines? Which linguistic practices do scientists apply to authorize new scientific approaches? With recourse to “The Genesis and Development of a Scientific Fact” by Ludwik Fleck as well as “Epistemic cultures” and “The manufacture of knowledge” by Karin Knorr-Cetina, the paper shows why it is reasonable to see science as a social practice. It also discusses the role language plays when linguists try to establish new approaches and focuses on the linguistic practices of labeling, locating and defininig.","PeriodicalId":53445,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur Angewandte Linguistik","volume":"2018 1","pages":"139 - 158"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/zfal-2018-0009","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49001370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This appropriation is crucial for the movement, as ‘space’ and ‘time’ refer to specific ideologies which allow a positioning towards events, actors and discourses. In this study interdisciplinary approaches are adapted that lead to a descriptive linguistic discourse analysis of a single protest event. In order to enable an extensive and in-depth analysis, this single protest event is split up in three parts: 1. The announcement of the protest, 2. its performance in a place and 3. the continuation of the protest in/through social media. The findings argue to take the ideologization of history, places and actors into account when discussing the identity-building concepts and, especially, when undertaking critical and political follow-up studies of such movements.","PeriodicalId":53445,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur Angewandte Linguistik","volume":"2018 1","pages":"73 - 101"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/ZFAL-2018-0004","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46172275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It incorporates theoretical concepts but remains applicable for science communication in practice. Empirical basis is a systematic screening and study of established forms as part of the research project “Science In Presentations”. The following differentiation criteria are used: the degree of multimodality, the degree of interactivity, the degree of event and entertainment orientation and the degree of performance. The typology is exemplified by four real case studies, for which respectively one criterion is especially pronounced: Science Vision (multimodality), Science Café (interactivity), Science Slam (event and entertainment orientation) and Christmas Lecture (performance).","PeriodicalId":53445,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur Angewandte Linguistik","volume":"2017 1","pages":"81 - 113"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/ZFAL-2017-0019","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42732216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus of this paper will be on the structure and features of an online data base – the main corpus of the project – and its application opportunities for the sociolinguistic and linguistic landscape research. The image database encompasses about 25,595 geo-coded digital photographs. The photographs are linked to a map of the Ruhr Area to show the distribution and density of visual multilingualism. The image database also provides metadata for the following categories according to Scollon and Scollon (2003) and Backhaus (2007): choice of language/variety, type of discourse (e.g. commercial, regulatory, transgressive, commemorative), type of name (e.g. institution, shop, gastronomy, toponym), information management (e.g. complete, partial, extended), appearance, typography (e.g. Antiqua, Grotesque, Fraktur type, handwritten), and size. This tagging system allows complex search strategies to analyse sociolinguistic and geographical aspects of visual multilingualism.","PeriodicalId":53445,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur Angewandte Linguistik","volume":"2017 1","pages":"79 - 98"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/ZFAL-2017-0003","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43069760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
