This extended from the Mary River in Southeast Queensland (SEQ) to the Clarence River in Northeast NSW (NENSW). Two centres within this area were devastated by floods unprecedented in living memory. One was the Brisbane Metropolitan area where all-time record daily rainfall in the suburbs flooded creeks. This creek flooding was much worse than that caused by the Brisbane River itself where Wivenhoe Dam played a role in preventing more disastrous flooding. The other was in the Northern New South Wales city of Lismore where rainfall in the Wilsons River catchment exceeded all known rainfall rates there. The structure of the weather system generating the rainfall responsible for these two floods is studied along with the climatology of such events. One event which occurred during 1954 stands out and is examined in detail. A climate shift in 1976 resulted in two decades of relatively benign weather in the region and tourism flourished there due to mild summers and warm winters. The area experienced a huge growth in population with fading memories of past disastrous weather events and huge residential development occurred in flood plain areas. During the twenty-first century these extreme events have returned although so far not as frequent as earlier decades but still result in some residents experiencing multiple flooding events. The 1954 event occurred during an extended period of devastating flood events not experienced in recent decades. With the huge increase in population in this area since the 1970s such a series of events like those in the 1950s would stretch the resources of disaster managers given the problems, they faced in 2022.","PeriodicalId":53427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nuclear Energy Science and Power Generation Technology","volume":"4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88371016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Technological and project economic data for the W2E project were obtained from strategic sources and energy project foresight/analysis framework used. The results showed residential upgraded biogas-for-cooking demand of approximately 10,243 m3/month, and municipal solid waste (MSW) input of approximately 80 tonnes/month. The planned biogas plant had estimated costs of US $120,000, a throughput of almost 15,364 m3/month and required 5 acres of land for construction. Project economic viability indicator estimates were: Initial Investment – US $256,500, annual profits – US $40,000, Net Present Value (NPV) – US $142,000, maximum payback period – 7 years, and annual Return-on-Investment (ROI) – 16%. Socio-economic benefits per month included the constant supply of cheap cooking fuel, comparative cooking energy cost savings (biogas-to-LPG usage) of US $3,810, and the elimination of almost 80 tonnes of MSW from the environment. The study concluded that the Waste-2-Biogas critical infrastructure project was technically, environmentally, and socio-economically viable, and was suitable for deployment across suburban Southwestern Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":53427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nuclear Energy Science and Power Generation Technology","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75867016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a trial in Northern Germany two replicate plots each were treated with fresh or prolonged fermented digestate to investigate the influence of digestates on the composition of soil organic matter (SOM). The relative proportions of relevant SOM compound classes were determined by pyrolysis-field ionization mass spectrometry (Py-FIMS) and pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS). Using these two methods the influence of digestate on the SOM composition was illustrated by the statistical spectra evaluation by principal component analysis. In both digestate-treated plots, the relative proportions of the slowly degradable alkylaromatic compounds and lipids were larger. In contrast, easily degradable carbohydrates and amides and mostly heterocyclic N-compounds were less than in the control plots. However, these SOM differences due to digestates were less pronounced than differences in the composition of autochthonous SOM in the control plots. In one of the treatments N- and alkylaromatic compounds were more abundant in the aggregate core than on the aggregate surface. In contrast, aliphatic compounds were more abundant on the aggregate surface as disclosed by Py-FI and pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectra (Py-GC/MS). In conclusion, increasing amounts of digestate should be critically monitored according to different digestate feedstock, soil types, ecological factors and crop growth/yield.","PeriodicalId":53427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nuclear Energy Science and Power Generation Technology","volume":"213 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73584687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Remote condition monitoring of wind turbines is employed to achieve higher uptimes and lower maintenance costs. Machine learning models can detect developing damages in wind turbines. Therefore, this paper demonstrates that cross–turbine transfer learning can drastically improve the accuracy of fault detection models in turbines with scarce SCADA data. In particular, it shows that combining the knowledge from turbines with scarce and turbines with plentiful data enables earlier detection of faults than prior art methods. Training fault detection models require large amounts of past and present SCADA data but these data are often unavailable or not representative of the current operation behavior. Newly commissioned wind farms lack SCADA data from the previous operation. Due to control software updates or hardware replacements, older turbines may also lack representative SCADA data. After such events, a turbine’s operation behavior can change significantly so its SCADA data no longer represent its current behavior. Therefore, the work highlights how to reuse and transfer knowledge across wind turbines to overcome this lack of data and enable the earlier detection of faults in wind turbines.","PeriodicalId":53427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nuclear Energy Science and Power Generation Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79832638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to its low ion conductivity, LiF is still challenging for practical SE applications. Herein, Li-Zr-F composite-based SE by liquid-mediated synthesis is proposed to be studied. methanol (CH<sub>3</sub>OH) was mainly evaluated as a liquid-mediated precursor for synthesizing Li-Zr-F composites under the stoichiometric proportion of LiF and ZrF4 (2:1 and 2:0.8) and a subsequent annealing process at 25°C/150°C, 50°C/150°C, and 70°C/150°C, respectively. X-ray diffraction results revealed that the Li-Zr-F composites could be crystallized in the three main types of phase formations, including Li<sub>2</sub>ZrF<sub>6</sub> ( ), Li<sub>2</sub>ZrF<sub>6</sub> ( ), and Li<sub>4</sub>ZrF<sub>8</sub> ( ) octahedron structures. In addition, the effect of cation stack sublattice synthesized by methanol mediator on the ion conduction of Li-Zr-F composites was investigated by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Through the Zr<sup>4+</sup>-substitution, Li<sub>2</sub>ZrF<sub>6</sub> ( )-based SE exhibited the highest ion conduction which was increased to 2.40 × 10<sup>-8</sup> S/cm and 3.89 × 10<sup>-8</sup> S/cm under the stoichiometric proportion of LiF and ZrF<sub>4</sub> 2:0.8 at a dried temperature of 50°C/150°C with, respectively. A 0.21 eV activation energy ( ) was achieved for a battery with Li<sub>2</sub>ZrF<sub>6</sub> ( )-based SE. Meanwhile, LiF exhibited up to 0.78 eV leading to a low kinetic rate for ion diffusion. These results implied that Li<sub>2</sub>ZrF<sub>6 </sub>( )-based SE was successfully synthesized under the optimal condition of CH<sub>3</sub>OH-50°C/150°C which could improve the ion-conductivity of LiF.","PeriodicalId":53427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nuclear Energy Science and Power Generation Technology","volume":"66 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80215976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, detailed Matlab/Simulink modeling of a microgrid operated at medium-voltage level and at constant frequency has been conducted. Modified boost converter and medium-frequency transformer isolated DC/DC converter are adopted for both solar energy and wind energy harnessing in order for them to be connected with the microgrid. This paper further adopted a differential evolution (DE)-based method to carry out load flow analysis to work out the voltage at each bus. Results obtained from the DE method are nearly the same at some nodes or buses as those from Matlab/Simulink platform-based time-domain fixed-step modeling, while at other nodes they are very close to each other. Then DE method can be used to carry out load flow analysis in more complex microgrids with more nodes to overcome the limited modelling capability of Matlab/Simulink and other tools. Moreover, this new research effort also paves the way for the stability analysis of large-scale microgrids.","PeriodicalId":53427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nuclear Energy Science and Power Generation Technology","volume":"344 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77781057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to accurately predict wind loadings on a non-rotating OWT using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code, Ansys Fluent package. The inlet velocity boundary condition was defined as a uniform inlet wind speed and then as a Normal Wind Profile (NWP). Three large wind speeds of 25 m/s, 40 m/s and 50 m/s were tested with the aid of the RANS equations and the Shear Stress Transport (SST) turbulence model. A thorough mesh convergence study was conducted for both 2D and 3D simulations, and their results were assessed using the Richardson extrapolation method. Overall, the NWP method was found to produce larger wind forces and moments in comparison with the uniform wind speed conditions (on average 52% and 63% higher, respectively), and its predictions were consistent with the estimations obtained using the simplified drag formula recommended by offshore standards (within approx. 7% difference for wind forces). This paper provided the preliminary steps towards investigating the structural integrity of OWTs under extreme weather conditions.","PeriodicalId":53427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nuclear Energy Science and Power Generation Technology","volume":"60 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83046634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Going forward, extremely fast charging is the only solution to these problems. However, the typical Silicon power electronics supported 400 V electric vehicle powertrain cannot live up to this challenge. Limitations include the huge cable size, heating of equipment due to high current and user safety, to name a few. In this paper, we have analyzed an 800 V EV powertrain using power electronics based on silicon carbide. In order to implement 800 V powertrain, the complete reconsideration of the electrical system is imperative. In this paper we have presented the implementation of Silicon Carbide based Power electronics to operate an 800 V powertrain and evaluate it against the 800 V Si powertrain. Details of drivetrain, inverter, and auxiliary power units in high voltage charging (Megawatt Level) system are presented in this research.","PeriodicalId":53427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nuclear Energy Science and Power Generation Technology","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84984466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

LSECBs are electric vehicles that can travel on public roads at speeds of less than 5.56 m/s (20 km/h). The university, local government, local businesses, and residents with a co-design approach developed the LSECBs. They have various advantages such as safety due to low speed and low energy consumption. In particular, the LSECBs have features not found in ordinary vehicles, such as the ability to friendly talk with other passengers in the vehicle and to see the surroundings. The purpose of using LSECBs is mostly for sightseeing, but they are also used to enhance the mobility of elderly people in the community. In Japan, public transportation plans are formulated by each local government, but local governments with weak finances do not provide sufficient financial support to the companies responsible for public transportation. As a result, public transportation services have been reduced or eliminated due to the business conditions of private companies, and many elderly people with reduced mobility, called \"people with shopping difficulties,\" have been left behind. Under these situations, it is necessary to discuss what kind of contribution LSECBs can make. Moreover, the LSECBs require special driving methods so as not to cause traffic congestion when mixed with other ordinal vehicles. In this paper, we report on the development concept, features of the LSECBs, their special driving method, positioning as a transportation policy, and their potential as stainable mobility.","PeriodicalId":53427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nuclear Energy Science and Power Generation Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85277249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Governments and corporations have started large-scale initiatives to deploy advanced technologies to reduce carbon footprints and prevent global warming. Herein, we have explored the emerging techniques and methods used in reducing the effects of gas emissions in the oil and gas industry. The transition process from hydrocarbons to renewable energy resources, including solar thermal applications for EOR, thermal energy extraction from hydrocarbon reservoirs, hydrogen generation strategies, and CO2 EOR and storage applications, has also been discussed. Literature information and publicly available data have paved the way to provide the theoretical background, the rationale of use, screening and selection criteria, challenges, and workarounds for these novel energy sources. Systems to integrate green methods into oil and gas processes appear in detail, from screening to implementation. Then, the technical information for integrating these resources under multiple conditions that affect the system's efficiency, such as weather, seasonal temperature changes, wind, and solar exposure, have been investigated. Moreover, added benefits of such incorporation strategies, such as improved economics with minimal effects on capital intensiveness or other burdens on the overall economy, have also been addressed. The transition from fossil fuels to renewable and greener energy resources provided the underlying motivation for this study.","PeriodicalId":53427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nuclear Energy Science and Power Generation Technology","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90512171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
