In this research, a series of silver nanoclusters loaded with R-FAU/Ag (R = Li, Na, K) zeolites were synthesized and then applied as phosphors for LEDs. The XRD and SEM measurements showed the R-FAU/Ag (R = Li, Na, K) zeolites have high crystallinity and a size distribution of 0.7–1.25 μm. Under excitations of 310–330 nm ultraviolet radiation, Li-FAU/Ag, Na-FAU/Ag, and K-FAU/Ag exhibit monotonically declining emission intensities and red-shifted emissions with peak wavelengths of 520, 527, and 535 nm, respectively. By using silicone-based epoxy resin as the packaging material, a series of LEDs were fabricated by mixing R-FAU/Ag (R = Li, Na, K) phosphors. It is indicated that the Li-FAU/Ag-LED shows the strongest intensity of 94.9 mcd, much higher than that of the LEDs made from Na-FAU/Ag (63.7 mcd) and K-FAU/Ag (74.2 mcd) phosphors. Additionally, the chromaticity coordinate of the Li-FAU/Ag-LED is located at (0.2651, 0.4073) and has a high color temperature of 7873 K. Thermal test data showed that upon heating to 440 K, the intensities of R-FAU/Ag (R = Li, Na, K) LEDs decreased to 81%, 79%, and 75% of their initial intensities measured at 280 K, respectively. This research proposes a method for regulating the luminescent properties of silver nanoclusters in FAU zeolite by modifying the extra-framework cations and demonstrates excellent performance in LED products.","PeriodicalId":53216,"journal":{"name":"Chemistry-Switzerland","volume":"7 3","pages":"90-90"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.mdpi.com/2624-8549/7/3/90/pdf?version=1748598880","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147916292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the halogen is capable of being further oxidized to higher valence states, thereby achieving the higher capacity of zinc- halogen batteries. Here, a six-electron reaction based on I−/I+ and Br−/Br0 is activated successfully by introducing KI into the electrolyte. ZIF-8-derived porous carbon (ZPC), serving as the host of halogen, effectively suppresses polybromide/polyiodide shuttle owing to the chemisorption/physical adsorption. Additionally, the adsorption of I− on the surface of the zinc anode effectively inhibits the growth of dendrites and the formation of by-products. Consequently, zinc-bromine batteries exhibit outstanding electrochemical performance, including a specific capacity of 345 mAh g−1 at 1 A g−1 and an excellent capacity retention of 80% after 3000 cycles at 2 A g−1. This strategy provides a novel way for enhancing the electrochemical performance of zinc-halogen batteries.","PeriodicalId":53216,"journal":{"name":"Chemistry-Switzerland","volume":"7 3","pages":"75-75"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.mdpi.com/2624-8549/7/3/75/pdf?version=1746158936","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147882393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ph-ChNPs were prepared by ionic gelation in the presence of Tripolyphosphate (TPP) solution as a crosslinker agent. The nanoparticles were characterized using DLS, TEM, UV-VIS and FT-IR spectroscopy. In vitro cytotoxic assay of Ph-ChNPs on MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines revealed anticancer activity with an IC50 value of 32.12 ± 1.63 µg/mL. In vivo studies were carried out on mice, treated with DMBA to induce breast cancer and followed the effect of the prepared nanoparticle, either alone or with combination with tamoxifen, on mice health. The biochemical parameters measured after treatment with Ph-ChNPs alone showed an improvement in lipid profile with decreased total cholesterol (TC) and Triglyceride (TG) levels and increased HDL-c levels. Ph-ChNPs significantly reduced IL-6 and cyclin D1 levels, with a slight increase in cyclin E2 levels. Antioxidant enzyme levels were improved, and oxidative stress markers were reduced. The combination treatment showed a synergistic effect in reducing inflammation and cell proliferation. DMBA-injected mice had substantially increased BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene expression. Ph-ChNP-treated mice showed well-organized mammary gland structures, while DMBA-injected mice displayed dense tumor cell aggregations. Ph-ChNPs and tamoxifen treatments improved histopathological variations, with the combination treatment showing significant apoptosis of tumor cells. This study demonstrates the significant potential of Ph-ChNPs combined with tamoxifen in breast cancer treatment. The combination therapy effectively reduces tumor growth, induces apoptosis and modulates critical breast cancer markers, offering a promising therapeutic strategy.","PeriodicalId":53216,"journal":{"name":"Chemistry-Switzerland","volume":"7 3","pages":"68-68"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.mdpi.com/2624-8549/7/3/68/pdf?version=1745326533","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147331596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current seasonal influenza vaccines primarily elicit an antibody response that targets the immunodominant head domain of the viral glycoprotein hemagglutinin (HA), which consistently mutates due to selective pressure. To circumvent this problem, we introduce a \"tethered antigenic suppression\" strategy to shield the HA head domain and refocus the immune response towards the conserved but immunosubdominant stalk domain of HA. Specifically, we tethered an antibody fragment (Fab) that recognizes the Sb antigenic site in the HA head domain to the HA protein with a linker. We immunized separate groups of female mice with the Fab-tethered HA or regular HA and characterized the elicited antibody response. We demonstrate that shielding the HA head domain with a tethered Fab suppresses the antibody titers towards all five key antigenic sites in the HA head domain while eliciting a robust anti-stalk antibody response. Our work highlights the potential of tethered antigenic suppression as a strategy to refocus the antibody response towards conserved epitopes on protein antigens.</p>","PeriodicalId":53216,"journal":{"name":"Chemistry-Switzerland","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2025-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC12468577/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"145187455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we investigate the dynamic magnetic control of lanthanide metal–organic framework crystals and their potential for advancing photonic barcode technology. A paramagnetic fluorescent Eu-MOF microcrystal with sizes ranging from 30 to 40 μm in length and 5 to 10 μm in width was synthesized, and its magnetic orientation and polarized emission were systematically investigated. Eu-MOF crystallizes in an orthorhombic space group, growing along the crystallographic b-axis and ultimately forming an anisotropic cuboid shape. Eu-MOF microcrystals exhibit significant magnetic anisotropy, causing the crystallographic c-axis of the crystal to align with the magnetic field when a uniaxial magnetic field of ~10 mT is applied. Furthermore, the Eu-MOF microcrystal exhibited characteristic Eu emissions with peaks at 594 nm, 616 nm, and 695 nm, and showed a high degree of polarization (DOP), reaching 0.904 at 616 nm. Therefore, the utilization of a rotating magnetic field not only enables precise and dynamic control over the crystal orientations but also results in a significant variation in the luminescence intensity. This capability enabled us to propose an innovative encryption barcode scheme in which the emission intensities of different luminescence peaks are converted into barcode widths, with the sequence of magnetic field directions serving as the encryption key. This approach presents a novel method for data storage and anti-counterfeiting, significantly enhancing the versatility and capacity of photonic barcodes.","PeriodicalId":53216,"journal":{"name":"Chemistry-Switzerland","volume":"6 6","pages":"1415-1426"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.mdpi.com/2624-8549/6/6/84/pdf?version=1731567049","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147896096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared to standard control ZIF-67 (C-ZIF-67) with a yield of 81% and a BET specific surface area of 1228 m2·g−1, the H-ZIF-67 not only exhibited improved crystallinity and pore structure but also achieved a yield of up to 93% and a BET specific surface area of 1457 m2·g−1. Due to its hierarchically porous structure, H-ZIF-67 demonstrated excellent adsorption capacity and efficiency for methylene orange (MO). Additionally, the composite separator created by combining H-ZIF-67 with nanocellulose (CNF) exhibited remarkable uniformity and dispersion in zinc batteries. In comparison to a conventional CNF separator, the porous structure and high specific surface area of H-ZIF-67 significantly enhanced its electrolyte wettability and Zn2+ transport rates. Its abundant Lewis acid sites effectively promoted the uniform deposition of Zn2+, thereby suppressing the formation of zinc dendrites and improving the cycling and safety performance of zinc-ion batteries. Experimental results indicate that the ion conductivity of the membrane was 4.31 mS·cm−1, the electrolyte absorption rate was 316%, and it could cycle stable for over 4000 h at a current density of 1 mA·cm−2 with a discharge capacity of 1 mAh·cm−2.
