Debates over a denounce on the disappeared in Argentina In 1980, during the last military dictatorship in Argentina, Amnesty International published the testimonies of two people who had been detained-disappeared. The report denounced state responsibility in their captivity, torture, and the methods used to murder most of the disappeared. This article analyzes the continuities of this testimony, with respect to previous complaints and its impact, reflected in the debates that it sparked between human rights organizations, relatives of the disappeared and exiles in the political context marked by the sanction of the law of “presumption of death” that considered the disappeared as dead, and the resistances of the complainants to admit their extermination. The article thus analyzes two important issues: how complainants learn about the disappearance system, and the distance between knowledge and recognition of experiences of extreme violence. Resumen En 1980, durante la ultima dictadura militar en la Argentina, Amnistia International publico los testimonios de dos personas que habian estado detenidas-desaparecidas. El informe denunciaba la responsabilidad estatal en su cautiverio, tortura y los metodos utilizados para asesinar a la mayoria de los desaparecidos. Este articulo analiza las continuidades de este testimonio, respecto a denuncias previas y su impacto, reflejado en los debates que suscito entre los organismos de derechos humanos, familiares de desaparecidos y exiliados en el contexto politico signado por la sancion de la ley de “presuncion de fallecimiento” que daba por muertos a los desaparecidos y las resistencias de los denunciantes a admitir su exterminio. El articulo analiza, asi, dos temas de indudable importancia: como se elabora el conocimiento sobre el sistema de desaparicion entre sus denunciantes y la distancia entre el conocimiento y el reconocimiento de experiencias de violencias extremas.","PeriodicalId":52452,"journal":{"name":"European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43986916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both the Pesillo-Imbabura regional drinking water project and the HidroIntag mini hydraulic plants project illustrate this trend. However, grassroots movements often have to negotiate their initial claims in order to get involved in these projects. To what extent the coproduction of sociotechnical imaginaries linked to green infrastructure projects transform water justice grassroots movements’ claims and strategies? What are the counterimaginaries that emerge at the margins of these modernizing pro-cesses? This paper analyses, from a political ecology and feminist technoscience perspectives, how the participation of water grassroots movements in green infrastructure projects means the coproduction of sociotechnical imaginaries with public authorities, private companies or development agencies, the transformation of their initial territorial claims and the emergence of counterimaginaries by resisting actors. Resumen En un contexto de injusticia hidrica y de extractivismo, varios movimientos comunitarios de la provincia de Imbabura, en la sierra norte del Ecuador, buscan participar en y beneficiarse de proyectos de desarrollo verde. Tanto el proyecto regional de agua potable Pesillo-Imbabura como el proyecto de minicentrales hidroelectricas HidroIntag ilustran esa tendencia. Sin embargo, los movimientos comunitarios se ven obligados a negociar sus demandas iniciales para estar incluidos en esos proyectos. ?En que medida la coproduccion de imaginarios sociotecnicos asociados a proyectos de desarrollo verde transforma las demandas y estrategias de los movimientos comunitarios por la justicia hidrica? ?Cuales son los contra-imaginarios producidos en la periferia de esos procesos modernizadores? Este articulo analiza, desde una perspectiva de ecologia politica, como la participacion de los movimientos comunitarios por el agua en proyectos de desarrollo verde implica la coproduccion de imaginarios sociotecnicos con las autoridades publicas, la empresa privada y las agencias de desarrollo, la transformacion de sus demandes territoriales iniciales y la emergencia de contraimaginarios por actores resistentes.","PeriodicalId":52452,"journal":{"name":"European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"19"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48484221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

León","doi":"10.32992/ERLACS.10645","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.32992/ERLACS.10645","url":null,"abstract":"How do Central American migrants in transit decide which other migrants they can trust when they are crossing Mexico? In this article, based on extensive multi-situated ethnography in Mexico, I suggest that migrants look for the same signs and signals when deciding whom to trust, thus creating a single, ideal “good migrant”. This stereotype is fed to them by the migrant shelters and advocacy institutions which, in an effort to protect the migrants and to humanise them, create a distinction between legitimate and illegitimate migrants. The construction of the “good migrant” ideal forces migrants to change the way they behave and affects those migrants who are unable to conform to the stereotype as they are likely to get less solidarity and help. Resumen: ?Por que confiar? La construccion del buen migrante en la ruta migrante mexicana ?Como deciden los migrantes centroamericanos en transito en que otros migrantes pueden confiar cuando cruzan Mexico? En este articulo, basado en una extensa etnografia multi-situada en Mexico, sugiero que los migrantes buscan los mismos signos y senales al decidir en quien confiar, creando asi un unico “buen migrante” ideal. Este estereotipo es alimentado por los albergues para migrantes y las instituciones de defensa que, en un esfuerzo por pro-teger a los migrantes y humanizarlos, crean una distincion entre migrantes legitimos e ilegi-timos. La construccion de un ideal de “buen migrante” obliga a los migrantes a cambiar su forma de comportarse y afecta a aquellos migrantes que no pueden adaptarse al estereotipo, ya que es probable que obtengan menos solidaridad y ayuda.","PeriodicalId":52452,"journal":{"name":"European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46004832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
