Is for that reason that new systematic reviews have tried to explain this relationship. Cui and Su (2020) in the review and meta-analysis “Clinicopathological features of programmed cell death-ligand 1 expression in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma” aimed to clarify the role of PD-L1 in OSCC [1]. For that, they included a large sample of 1,947 participants from a total of 15 studies. The authors found very interesting results concerning PD-L1 and its correlationwith sex, stages, and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection status, although they have described that there is a controversy between the included studies. However, the results concluded in this study may be confusing due to the large sample size of the studies included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The authors have used as inclusion criteria only OSCC patients confirmed by histology. However, from the total of 15 studies included, 6 studies (De Meulenaere et al., 2017; Kim et al., 2016; Sato et al., 2019, Upko et al., 2013, Hong et al, 2016; Hong et al., 2019) [2–8] were research carried out exclusively on patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) and another study (Ock et al., 2016) [9] included both oropharyngeal and non-oropharyngeal carcinoma. Therefore, approximately 915 patients of the total 1,947 are OPSCC patients and not OSCC. Nowadays, it is established that OPSCC is different in comparison with OSCC, since the diagnostic, the clinical behaviour, the treatment, and the prognostic are very different, a fact that has already been described in the TNM classification [10]. Besides, this bias has already been found in other systematic reviews in this field [11]. On the other hand, the authors have found a strong relationship between the HPV prevalence and OSCC, obtaining important conclusions concerning the HPV status and the PD-L1 in OSCC. Nevertheless, almost the total sample where the HPV was studied was compounded by OPSCC studies, since other studies have demonstrated the highest prevalence in OPSCC [12], while in the OSCC it is almost not prevalent [13], which is not consistent with the data and outcomes obtained with respect to the HPV status in the Cu and Su meta-analysis. Due to the above-mentioned, we consider that it must have a caution interpretation to OSCC concerning the outcomes obtained by Cu and Su since almost half of the sample are OPSCC participants.","PeriodicalId":520729,"journal":{"name":"Open medicine (Warsaw, Poland)","volume":" ","pages":"227-228"},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2022-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8812710/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39809879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adipocytes have been suggested to play a key role in the stimulation of EOC growth. However, the mechanisms underlying the adipocyte-induced EOC proliferation remain undefined. Here, we provide the first evidence that adipocytes induce the activation of sphingosine kinase (SphK) 2 in EOC, which represents a novel pathway that mediates the adipocyte-induced EOC growth. SphK2 inhibition in EOC cells led to a remarkable inhibition of the adipocyte-induced cell proliferation. Moreover, the adipocyte-induced SphK2 activation in EOC cells was extracellular signal-regulated protein kinases (ERK) dependent. Furthermore, silencing SphK2 in EOC significantly inhibited the adipocyte-induced expression of phospho-ERK and c-Myc, two crucial players in EOC growth. Collectively, the current study unraveled a previously unrecognized role of SphK2 in the adipocyte-induced growth-promoting action in EOC, suggesting a novel target for EOC treatment.</p>","PeriodicalId":520729,"journal":{"name":"Open medicine (Warsaw, Poland)","volume":" ","pages":"229-238"},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8812714/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39809880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of the short-term use of the C score in clinical practice, its validity and applicability need to be verified. We, retrospectively, analyzed the clinicopathological data of 144 primary IgAN patients diagnosed at our hospital from March 2017 to March 2019 and with complete ≥6-month follow-up data. We found that the C score was positively correlated with the Lee's classification in the assessment of renal pathological changes and significantly correlated with increased proteinuria and decreased estimated glomerular filtration rate. Univariate Cox regression analysis showed an association of C formation with IgAN prognosis, and multivariate Cox regression indicated Cs as an independent prognosis factor. The optimal proportion of Cs for prognosis prediction by the receiver operating characteristic curve was 11%. Kaplan-Meier survival curve revealed a significantly decreased renal survival rate in patients with C proportions ≥11%. Further multivariate Cox regression analysis confirmed that the C proportion ≥11% is an independent risk factor for poor prognosis of IgAN patients. The expression levels of DNM3 were detected in 50 cases of CRC tissues and 50 cases of non-cancerous adjacent colorectal tissues by real-time fluorescent quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Immunohistochemical method (IHC) was conducted to semi-quantify the expression of DNM3 protein. Results showed that the relative expression of DNM3 mRNA in CRC tissues was 0.634-fold of that in non-cancerous adjacent colorectal tissues. The positive rate of DNM3 protein in CRC tissues (42.0%) was much lower than that in non-cancerous adjacent colorectal tissues (66.0%; <i>P</i> < 0.05). The expression level of DNM3 protein in CRC tissues was dependent on tumor size, degree of histological differentiation, and clinical stage (<i>P</i> < 0.05). The expression level of DNM3 mRNA in CRC tissues was significantly correlated with tumor size and pathology classification (<i>P</i> < 0.05). Recently, they have been found to show the ability to independently regulate the immune response. Vascular immune response has an important pathological function in the development of coronary heart disease (CHD) and thrombosis. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between leptin, PCSK9, and vascular endothelial cell related inflammatory factors. First, detailed clinical information were collected and analyzed for 27 patients with stable CHD and corresponding 27 healthy controls. Second, using liquid-phase protein chip technology, leptin, PCSK9, and vascular-related inflammatory factors, such as E-selectin, vascular cell adhesion protein 1 (VCAM-1), intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), and interleukin-17 (IL-17), were detected on the same platform. Finally, the correlation between leptin, PCSK9, and the inflammatory factors was analyzed. Through collecting clinical information of patients, it was suggested that there was a significant positive correlation between leptin and blood lipid level in CHD. Compared with healthy people, the levels of leptin, PCSK9, E-selectin, and ICAM-1 were significantly high in patients with CHD. There was a high positive correlation between leptin and E-selectin, ICAM-1, IFN-γ, and IL-17. Also, a high positive correlation between PCSK9 and E-selectin, IFN-γ, and IL-17 concentrations was observed.
