The independent variables included educational data, municipal human development and racial composition of municipalities. We analyzed the evolution and spatial distribution of vaccination coverage, identifying clusters of municipalities and calculating absolute ratios and differences between the highest and lowest quintiles of vaccination coverage.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Vaccination coverage in the state as a whole was 26.9% for adolescents, 50.3% for adults and 78.8% for the elderly. Municipalities with higher vaccination coverage had 5.4 times more people vaccinated in the 12-17 age group, 2.1 times more in the 18-59 age group and 1.4 times more in the population aged 60 and over. Municipalities with a higher educational level, a lower Black population proportion and a lower municipal human development index had higher vaccination coverage. These disparities were persistent. Individuals under 18 years of age and those with unavailable vaccination status were excluded. Relative and absolute frequencies were calculated by vaccination status. Poisson regression was used to calculate crude and adjusted prevalence ratios (PR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI).</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>A total of 1,460 deaths were included, of which 244 (16.7%) had received ≥2 doses of the vaccines. Among the unvaccinated individuals, the highest frequency of deaths was recorded in individuals aged 60 to 79 years (47.9%), male (56.4%), and non-white race/skin color (53.0%). The PR of death in vaccinated individuals was higher in people ≥80 years old (PR 5.55; 95%CI 2.92; 10.55), 60-79 years old (PR 3.61; 95%CI 1.95; 6.69), with chronic lung disease (PR 1.35; 95%CI 1.03; 1.78) or chronic neurological disease (PR 1.37; 95%CI 1.08; 1.72), respiratory distress (PR 1.51; 95%CI 1.02; 2.23), desaturation (PR 1.97; 95%CI 1.35; 2.88) and adynamia (PR 2.80; 95%CI 2.02; 3.90). People with 1-4 years of schooling (PR 0.63; 95%CI 0.44; 0.90), 5-8 years of schooling (PR 0.57; 95%CI 0.39; 0.84), ≥8 years of schooling (PR 0.66; 95%CI 0.45; 0.97) had a lower prevalence.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>The highest prevalence of deaths among vaccinated individuals was associated with age ≥60 years, chronic lung or neurological disease, respiratory distress, desaturation, and adynamia. Crude analysis was performed using the chi-square test to verify associations between variables and difficulty in eating. After investigating multicollinearity, adjusted prevalence ratios (PR) were calculated using Poisson multiple regression. Cramer's V was used to measure effect size.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The sample consisted of 21,048 elderly individuals. Prevalence of severe or very severe difficulty in eating was 4.1% (95% confidence interval [95%CI] 3.7; 4.5). Multivariate analysis revealed that this condition was higher for females (PR 1.00; 95%CI 1.00; 1.01), older age (PR 1.01; 95%CI 1.00; 1.03), being illiterate (PR 1.01; 95%CI 1.00; 1.01), smoking (PR 1.01; 95%CI 1.00; 1.02), not having health insurance (PR 1.01; 95%CI 1.00; 1.01), multimorbidity (PR 1.01; 95%CI 1.01; 1.02), not brushing teeth daily (PR 1.07; 95%CI 1.03; 1.12) and not using dentures (PR 1.02; 95%CI 1.01; 1.02). Cramer's V indicated that associations that were significant had a weak effect.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Eating difficulties among the elderly were greater in those with unfavorable socioeconomic conditions, smokers, those with multimorbidity, those with inadequate oral hygiene and those who did not use dentures.
