It is important to carry out differential diagnostics based on a comprehensive basic and additional examination aimed at determining all intracranial and extracranial symptoms specific for concrete syndrome, which is possible with modern methods of radiological diagnostic — CBCT and MSCT. The purpose of the study is to determine key aspects of choosing the computed tomography technique for diagnostics of maxillofacial dysostoses. From 2009 to 2023 215 MSCT and 86 CBCT were performed in 211 patients aged from 2 to 18 years old with maxillofacial dysostoses for the purpose of differential diagnostics of pathology, indications for choosing the volume of radiological examination were determined.","PeriodicalId":51864,"journal":{"name":"Radiology Research and Practice","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.7,"publicationDate":"2023-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90628447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to investigate whether pulmonary embolism is due to thrombus migration from the venous circulation to the pulmonary arteries or due to local thrombus formation secondary to local inflammation. This was determined by looking at the distribution of pulmonary embolism in relation to lung parenchymal changes in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>Retrospectively, we identified pulmonary computed tomography angiography (CTPA) of patients admitted to the Royal Hospital between November 1st, 2020, and October 31, 2021, with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19. The CTPAs were examined for the presence of pulmonary embolism and the distribution of the pulmonary embolism in relation with lung parenchymal changes.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>A total of 215 patients admitted with COVID-19 pneumonia had CTPA. Out of them, 64 patients had pulmonary embolisms (45 men and 19 women; mean age: 58.4 years with a range of 36-98 years). The prevalence of pulmonary embolism (PE) was 29.8% (64/215). Pulmonary embolism was more frequently seen in the lower lobes. 51 patients had PE within the diseased lung parenchyma and 13 patients had PE within normal lung parenchyma.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>The strong association between pulmonary artery embolism and lung parenchymal changes in patients admitted with COVID-19 pneumonia suggests local thrombus formation.</p>","PeriodicalId":51864,"journal":{"name":"Radiology Research and Practice","volume":"2023 ","pages":"3844069"},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2023-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10332914/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"9815798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The X-ray archive of 82 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and type 2 diabetes mellitus was analyzed. The evaluation of the radiological picture was carried out with the correlation of the level of glucose in the blood. In patients with fasting glucose values of 10 mmol/l and above, the X-ray picture of tuberculosis was characterized by extensive areas of lung tissue consolidation, with a 50 % frequency of localization in the lower sections, with the rapid formation of decay cavities. The course of tuberculosis with severe tuberculous intoxication was observed in patients with sharp jumps in the daily blood glucose index of more than 5 mmol/l, even in patients with an average glucose index of no more than 8 mmol/l. The X-ray picture was characterized by the presence of areas of consolidation in the lungs on both sides with many air cavities and dropout foci; the appearance of new areas of consolidation against the background of anti-tuberculosis therapy.","PeriodicalId":51864,"journal":{"name":"Radiology Research and Practice","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.7,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87055551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the use of AI in medicine in general, and in mammology in particular, requires regulation by legislative and legal acts to ensure the protection of patients’ rights, safety and quality of medical care. Special attention should be paid to the training of medical personnel and the development of new technologies and methods of working with AI.
